Nikonov:
Heather Mason.

Isn't that the main character from Silent Hill 3?

My vote would go to Ryu Hayabusa. Although Gatsu from Sword Of Bezerk is pretty awesome.

I'm going to go for Geralt from The Witcher, if only for the final cutscene.

Hmm, maybe Sir Auron from FFX

Altier because he isn't some self-hyping, self-proclaimed sword-god like some other characters.

If were basing it only off of how awesome the blade('s) are, then Dante, with his Multitude of awesome Swords. Link, because he is a repeating Hero, and, of course, the greatest Insane mofo ever, Gray Fox (In MGS: Twin Snakes, because that has awesome cutscenes, which show how badass he is).

Keep 'em coming, people!
BTW, the monopoly guy, that guy's name is Sean, the cult leader!

the protaganist.

Frank West.

Honestly, I hate him, I mean, "You ever used a gun?" "No but, I've covered wars ya know!" - and everything he touches explodes after 3 uses.

Only one person said Link? Really? sure, he's a green tunic wearing fairy boy, but he's a Cool green tunic wearing fairy boy with a kick ass sword and shield.

His adult incarnations. Kid Link and Toon Link can go suck a goats left nut...

Altair, Dante, Gray Fox, Gandalf, and The Prince. All very awesome sword fighters with their own style and great personalities.

Drizzt Do'Urden.
...Well, he's a hero and he makes a cameo in Baldur's Gate, that makes him a sword-wielding game character...

...FINE
I'm gonna go for Link. Specifically his child incarnations. Specifically specifically Toon Link in Wind Waker, but that's more to do with WW being my favourite Zelda game than a preference for little kiddies.

In terms of swordplay, I'm gonna have to favour TP Link over WW Link, cos of his cool moves. It's close though.

Guybrush Threepwood. For winning swordfights with insults instead of skill. Also for sword-rhyming.
Auron and Dak'kon are close seconds.
A lot of Soul Calibur characters are awesome swordsmen too, but I'm not really sure which one to pick. Maybe Xianghua or Raphael.

About Dead Rising: You can get a katana, so there's definitely a sword. But Frank isn't really much of a swordsman.

The Prince

From Prince of Persia? Right, that's my vote. What he lacks in technique he makes up in acrobatic skill.

Ironically, he started with only one point in two-handed sword but maxed out in maces in BG2. But then again, it's Minsc. He probably doesn't care that much about specialization, or even proficiency.

When will you people learn.

The answer is Sephiroth, it has always been, and will always be, Sephiroth

Don't tell me he's not a hero, he's just evil. Little baby Supervillains find him a hero, and would you tell a baby they were wrong in their role models?

Sephiroth, end this thread.

Kain. My first thought was Raziel, but I think ultimately Kain, at least later in the series
(counting Blood Omen 2 as well as Defiance).

Or maybe that dude from La Mulana... ;D

For fighting with style: Vergil. He summons glowing blue swords. How cool is that?

For fighting with style realisticaly: Altair. His parrying and couter attack moves are very fluid and graceful.

For the most upper arm strength: Cloud/ Sephiroth. Carrying a 10kg + / 10 foot sword must require lotsa strength.

I'd say Link if you have only played one Zelda game.

If you have played many Zelda titles then links awesomeness wears off.

I would say Cloud would take Link's place because you have to admit that a 12 year old girl who can lift two cubic tonnes of sword is damn impressive.

GothmogII:

Speaking of which...I'd put down Elric of Melniboné too...except, as far as I'm aware there've been no Elric games, a shame, but good I suppose, they'd probably try and stuff him into some kind of crappy slash em' up affair. He deserves better!

Elric doesn't really so much "wield" Stormbringer as carry it from place to place and let it do the rest.

Siegfried - Most notably in Soul Blade (Edge).

Nobility and honour that descends into darkness, madness and inevitable self destruction.
He's just a great character - with or without a sword.

Well my own laws of the universe dicate that I must choose a ninja, but which one?
I think my first choice would have been Grey Fox from MGS but he wasn't really a hero....
Then there's Raiden from MGS4 but I still can't really forgive him for MGS2.....
So that really leaves me with Ryu Hayabusa, from DOA and Ninja Gaiden.

I'd say either the Prince of Persia main character or Ryu Hayabusa...

Cause I don't like being original :P

But actually because I love the ninja Gaiden series and the first PoP game...
