In a constant quest to draw peoples attention to lesser known games I've come up with this:

Recommend a lower profile game based on it's similarities to a high profile one.
Give your reasons too.

For example;
If you like the Metroid series you should take a look at Scurge: Hive on the GBA or DS.
It features the same style of mapping that opens as you power up but plays from an isometric viewpoint. It looks great too (better on the GBA bizarrely).

Have at it.

Hmmn, good idea.

If you liked Sid Meire's Pirates!. it might be worth your time to check out the original Pirates of the Caribbean game. No extra tags attached, it barely refers to the movie. Basic same setting as Pirates!, but with a decent plot, far more depth and realism, but less user friendliness and limited to the saily-saily and hacky-slashy-shooty gameplay types.

That's my preferred review format. No matter how much I'll dislike some dog of a title, someone out there will enjoy it... another reason I don't like scores in reviews, myself, as there's too much skew in those numbers due to the personal preferences of the reviewers.

If you enjoyed the Final Fantasy series you should definately try Suikoden. My favorite is 3, the first two had the old 2D FF type of fighting. Plus there are tons of characters, each with backstories. Many of them are even related between games.

Also, if you liked games like Secret of Mana, but you prefer more adult humor and situations, give the original Tales of Phantasia on the SNES a try. The GBA-remake version is way more kid-friendly, IE: boring.

Everyone has no doubt heard, "If you loved Morrowind, you'll hate Oblivion."

That said, I think I'll go with "If you like Soulcalibur, try Bloody Roar."

If you liked 7th Legion, you'll like Starcraft, because
1) If you actually [i]like[/l] 7th Legion, your standards are pretty low
2) Starcraft is a much better game than 7th Legion

Actually this got me thinking about a problem I have.

If you like Tribes, you'll love .... well..... stick with Tribes.

and hmm. If you like Secret of Mana (and probably more appropriately legend of Mana) you'll love Odin Sphere.

I feel similarly about the two Bethesda games, they each had their qualities, although I kind of want to see a version of that AI that got me so amped for Oblivion in the first place.

I'll give Shadowrun a try when I get back to the states, although I have to admit, I don't think I'd heard of it before.

If you like any of the Quake series, particularly Quake 3 Arena, you will in all likelihood adore Warsow to death.

Seriously, it's bloody awesome and there's a lot of people playing it, despite it being an indie game. There's actually more playing Warsow than Quake 4, I believe.

I was under the impression that I was the only one that had ever heard of or played this game. Seconded.

I dunno, I dislike the lack of a safe function in actual warfare.

If you liked Dungeon Keeper, you might like evil genius.
If you liked any rts, but thought 2 dimensions are for losers, you might like Homeworld 1 and 2.

I worship that game. I've heard of Evil Genius, but not really sure what it's about, I haven't heard much about it at all.

If you like Resident Evil, you may like Another Code: Two Memories (or Trace Memory, on DS). It's like Resi 1 without the zombies... but give it a chance. The puzzle side is similar to what I love about Resident Evil, and very challenging.

Word. And if I can bring another into the Shadowrun fold I can die happy. It truly is an incredible game that got dissed by reviewers and subsequently destroyed in the market. Best FPS on the 360 and first Vista-Xbox cross-platform game.

Anyway,

If you like I Wanna Be The Guy, you'll love suicide and death at an early age. (Seriously, is there a more frustrating game on the planet?)

Definately if you like Ninja Gaiden on Master Ninja mode, you'll love I Wanna Be The Guy.

I don't think anyone has said it yet, but:

If you love BioShock, you'll love System Shock 2 :D

If you liked any Sim City with color more vibrant than a stick, then you'll enjoy Sid Meier's Railroads.

If you like Variety and Cleverness, you can do a helluva lot worse than HλLF-LIFE2:Episode 2.

Juan, was such crude humor absolutely necessary?

I think not.

Oh, yes, the thread.

If you liked Persona 3, then you might actually like Thousand Arms. *gasp*

I know, that's as surprising to you as it is to me.

And this year's annual Troll of the Year award goes too...

Anyway, if you liked the Shadow Hearts series, definitely check out the Shin Megami Tensei series.

I really need to get into that series.

If you like Tim Burton, you really ought to give Okage: Shadow King a chance.
