Beat Writer Posts: 209 Joined: 16 Jun 2008 | Well, I guess I'll break the trend and go with something a little different... Starcraft, on whatever the default difficulty is... I haven't been able to beat the final human mission without using a cheat (you're up against a human opponent who has a dozen ghosts that stealth and just lockdown whatever units you send in). I admit I only tried for a few days before giving up and moving on, so I'm sure that I'd eventually get it... but who's going to waste time doing that? Oh, and one of the Zerg missions I can't do because any attack is defended by a dozen templars that spam lightning storm on an invading force. Or, alternatively, I just suck at games :) |

The weird gravity was making me ill and the game so far had been less than fun, so when my dude passed into the spirit realm to run a jumping puzzle for life fragments (or something) I just quit out and never looked back. -Nick |

Press Junketeer Posts: 388 Joined: 27 Mar 2008 | Hitman: Contracts The mission where you have to kill the triad bosses in the small block with a restaurant. This game was awesome but the whole thing about one stuff up meaning game over was hard. Also FFVII i got to the big grind session at the end and cbf'ed. I do not mind grinding and in fact i am compulsive but some FF games have this huge session before the final boss of grinding i just find wrong. |

That is very unlikely, on hardened yes, but not on veteran. On topic: After a 23 lose streak on StarCraft, I gave in, im still going to defend the game in the RTS topics, but I've given up with the game itself, ill happily play Custom maps again once I get a decent internet connection and live with that. Also about my run on COD4 Mile High Club on X-Box when i beat it I literally had 0.3 seconds on the timer, I actually jumped yelling out YES YES I DID IT! after getting the shot. |
Section Editor Posts: 558 Joined: 9 Jan 2007 | There was this one jump in Wonder Boy in Monster World that I just simply could not get. Great game, absolutely loved it, but at the very end, I was just stopped dead by this one stupid jump. It was on to an itty bitty ledge and I kept falling off. Stupid, I know, but it drove me mad. I got so frustrated that I traded the game in and never played it again. Which is even more stupid. |

Sadly, after a transparent setup (a book of matches and a knife in the dresser drawer?), the first obstacle it threw it me was a Twelve Puzzle. I suck at Manhattan geometry, but still... Manhattan geometry = too Euclidean for Lovecraft. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 3 Joined: 29 Jun 2008 | The final boss battle in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Not so much for the difficulty of the fight, but the length of the fight combined with the two long cut scenes that you can't skip made it such a chore to replay that I just gave up after about 4 or 5 attempts. |

I completed it and got the achievement with 13 seconds left. The secret is killng the guy with the shot gun (the guy after the guy in the bathroom) and using lots of flashbangs and running. Also if you pick up the aforementioned shotgun t helps a lot. |

Funnily enought he one time i got to him was the time i was grabbing everygun available and mowing them down. I also remember another game Halo 2 on co op legendary me and my friend spent 6 hours and couldn't get past the first level. |

Tell it all brother, tell it all. I also have yet to beat it on vet. I would add the first time you fight Alma in NG for Xbox. The very first time I fought her, I just couldn't beat her, but later (after I had beated the game). I ramped up the difficulty and beat her in one shot. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1464 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | In Mischief Makers for the N64, there was this one point where you had to win some kind of race to progress in the game. I'm sure there was some sort of game mechanic I wasn't aware of that would make me go a lot faster, but at the time, I just couldn't figure it out-- and none of the guides I read helped at all. This was a long time ago, though-- occasionally I've thought about hunting down a copy of the game just to finish it, but then I just don't. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 708 Joined: 16 Apr 2008 | Super Paper Mario. The part where you had to work yourself free. Yahtzee said that it only took him a few minutes- I don't see how. You had to also avoid electrical bolts, so you couldn't just leave the controller either. Instead of quitting, though, I looked in a walkthrough and cheated to find the correct password. Why oh why would they do that in a video game? |

Paperboy Posts: 29 Joined: 27 May 2008 | As wgreer said, Alma was a nightmare, took me days. General RAAM on insane difficulty in gears of war was also really tough, had to take several breaks. As a kid the first boss of rygar for the nes was impossible for years until me and my friend realised that those blobs enemies dropped were meant to be used to buy uppgrades for your attack. After that he was easy (no, english is not my first language. I remeber beating the first police quest with a dictionary). As many have said, the mile high club on veteran was really tough. My advice is somewhat like Luminescents. My tips are: 1. Never reload, ever. pick up enemy weapons as you go. you need to spend most of your time running and you cant run and reload at the same time. |

Paperboy Posts: 16 Joined: 30 Jun 2008 | I was stuck on FFX, trying to beat Yunalesca. Went back the next week and beat her. Had the same problem with the Boss after the Calm Lands. FFX-2 I completed, and then went back to get 100%. I gave up during Chapter 3, doing the Thunder Plains calibration missions. I HATE those missions. Hogs Of War, I got to the very last island, with all the legends, and couldn't complete it. When I was 12, I played MGS. I always died at the very beginning since I hate stealth, and haven't played any MGS game since. There have been a few moments on F.E.A.R. where I just hand the controller to a mate. |

Respect for even trying. Your controller has gone to controller Valhalla knowing the taste of glory. |
Paperboy Posts: 45 Joined: 14 Mar 2008 | Ridge Racer for the Playstation, You had to beat this black car that had better handling and acceleration than any of the other cars and had about double the top speed. On about my three hundredth try I'm on the home straight about a millisecond ahead of him when the dog gets tangled up in the cable of the controller. The Vet had never extracted a gamepad from a Cockerspaniel's arse before. I never played Ridge Racer again. |

Red Faction 2, right after the massive plot twist. Suddenly finding myself with no allies and everyone after me and being insulted at such a cheesy turnabout. There's been a few times I've got stuck on other games and usually I just find a walkthrough on the net. |

What really pissed me off about that fight is that, in the guide, it says that it's easier than the battle with maleficent as a dragon, and that the battle with the dragon is the hardest in the game. I beat that battle without getting hit. Also, when i got so pissed at Trauma Center: New Blood, i threw the controller so hard against the wall it broke into pieces. Haven't played it since.(those X missions are so fucking hard.) |

Dark chronicle. I keep getting distracted and stop playing the game. It's a pretty gripping story, but it's quite repetitive and it feels as if it's missing something. Can someone give me a reason to continue? Seriously.
