Paperboy Posts: 19 Joined: 21 Jul 2004 | I can honestly say that I have no paitience for stealth games. WoW, I don't see what the big deal is. Half-life...the series. Honestly, I don't get what is so popular about a mute character whom you never see, and only hear when you take damage. I also hated the gunplay mechanics...having to tap the right trigger fast to fire fast quickly becomes a chore. |

considering the lack of innovation from the series... i think the overrated monikor is spot on. that doesn't mean the games are bad though. |

Well speaking of the devil, Yahtzee. That's pretty much the exact reason why I can't stand him, the braying of the sheep that follow drives me insane. The Xbox360 - It's the second worst console on the market - this thing is shit, everything about it, even it's controller, and it's selling like hotcakes because it's got some good exclusives. The Wii - WE'RE IN A SHORTAGE OF THIS FUCKING THING?! A SHORTAGE? Man, we really are running out of thing to entertain ourselves. Thank God it's fun with friends though - otherwise I'd feel like I've wasted the tons of money of stocking up on 60 dollar remotes. *waits for someone by the name of "captain obvious" to pop up and say "Well, that's just your opinion! hurr hurr" because they were offended by the fact that I don't like their platform of choice.* |

Same 'ere. Mindnumbingly boring. People seem to get immersed in the world, but I simply can't do that when I'm not having a good time. Also, Halo. At least, on the PC. I nearly fell asleep whilst playing. Uninstalled after that. Multiplayer isn't worth it either, since it's lagging as hell everywhere. UT2K4: Oh, sure, it was fun for a while. But simply because it was so fast-paced (and my fav game for quite a while), the community just blew it. Nowadays it's either that shitty instagib (which basically means dodge+double jump the whole time all around the map, keeping your fire button down), or rocket launcher/flak cannon spamfests in small corridors. |

nah, people bought it because it was cheap. it got the exclusives because so many people bought it. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2792 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 |
yeah that too, as long as it's cheap and keeps you entertained for a few hours or longer, then it will sell, hence why we are in a shortage of the Wii. |
Paperboy Posts: 19 Joined: 19 Jun 2008 | Certainly Halo, completed all 3 of them but really considered them just good FPS games, certainly not the God-like games they were apparently meant to be and the amount of morons on Halo 3 online...let's just say I'm glad I no longer own an Xbox. World of Warcraft. Never really seen the big deal. Haven't played the game myself but I think the people that do play it, some of them really do take it to extremes. Grand Theft Auto. Never wanted to buy number 4 but eventually brought myself to do it out of boredom, an excess of money and no other new releases to buy. Thought it was fairly good to be honest and I can appreciate the effort gone into its creation but got so bored of it's really not as good as everyone hyped it up to be. It's more constrictive than San Andreas so it's more of a downgrade really. Assassin's Creed. Bought the game a week after release and initially thought it was amazing. A few weeks later and I realised it was so boring and repetitive that I just couldn't be bothered with it. I can understand why some people like it but I really couldn't see it through to the end. I work in a game shop and this game is seriously the most traded in Xbox 360 game so maybe quite a few people agree with me. I'm a big Final Fantasy and MGS fan but yeah I can see why people in here dislike them, they're not for everyone though and I guess that's kind of the bigger point here: everyone to their own. So long as people have their own opinions on things then it's okay I can deal with that. It's only really annoying when you have some idiot claiming GTA4 is the best game ever because IGN said so, even though the idiot in question has only played 10 minutes of the game at a friend's house. Sheeps I guess you would say, who just follow the mainstream view because they think it makes them cool especially when they bash other people for even daring to say that Halo 3 really isn't that great. |

Muckraker Posts: 333 Joined: 12 Apr 2008 | Ok I under stand why alot of peopel dislike certain game like the FF series and there carbon copys. However i jstu got'ta say alot of you people her are hating. I mean come on disliek a game beacuse it has become popular, all taht sasy is that have a stick up your as and the every timr you try to take it out you just hit the vibrate button instead. If your not going to like games have a viable reason (yes "I just didnt like it" coutn as a reason, how ever "becuase every one else does" isnt a one). I hole heartedly admit that i HATED the halo series, i jstu didnt see much to them, how ever i did like bioshock portal and hitman, now why do you ask becuase i just enjpoyed them. Now for those peopel that hate on WOW becuse its very easy and there now real challange i have oen thign to say to you, ITS A GAME!. IF it wer challanging then people would just drop it like a dead hooker. Complaing that wow is to simple is liek sayign you dislike checker beacuse of the lack of a story line. and NO i dont play wow or any mmo's they jsut lost there magic but i respect them for beign easyer than other games beacuse they do have a social aspect to them becuse you play with real people not just hard core "gamers". Now lastly i jsut got one thign to say I liked psyconaughts becuse Yahtzeee reviewed it, why beacuse it haad a good story line. Infact i woudl have actully have preferd it as a book (if its possible with out fucking it up). now back to the whoel poitn of teh post Ahem I hate msot of FF (some of the later ones have pretty good story lines so i respect them for that, but not X I abhored X) All of Halo All of spyro Most of spy cooper i heavly dislike God of War (just bleh) Devil may Cry has good cinamatics but it just lacks any real substance and many MANY more |

Paperboy Posts: 17 Joined: 9 Apr 2008 | I'm glad to see, reading this thread, that I'm not the only one who didn't like Half-Life... All I seem to hear from my friends is how awesome it is (but then, these are the same friends who have repeatedly told me that Skies of Arcadia is among their favourite games; don't get me wrong, I like JRPGs, but that thing was tedious beyond compare.... maybe I just need better friends). Other than that... well, as a JRPG fan, there are a lot more games I like that 'everyone' else hates than vice versa. I'm on the verge of being pushed into trying Mass Effect, but coming to it from FF10 I think I'm going to be disappointed (that is, unless Mass Effect also lets you get powerful enough to destroy planets pretty early on, which from what I've seen I doubt...) |

I thought it was a sub-par shooter filled with bad design choices, such as it being too dark to see anything everywhere you go, and having absolutely no idea on how to progress on several spots. Although I did play it on the Gamecube, which may something to do with it (what with lousy ports and all.) |

They seem to have trimmed some of the fat off this bloated, self-important series and injected some new life into it with the latest installment. I'm actually, to my surprise, quite enjoying this one. Tekken series - Still is and always has been a poor man's Virtua Fighter. Seems to have that mass appeal though. |

The fewer characters created more differences between them. The somewhat slower gameplay and far superior levels made it way easier to keep track of what was happening. |

could SOMEONE tell me where this "GTA tells people to kill hookers" shit came from?? with the permanent exception of children, you can mow down everybody from hobos to white-collar buisnessmen in that game, but why does everybody bring up hookers? since when has society valued hookers so damn much, and why are people so mad when a cloud of ones and zeroes |
Muckraker Posts: 241 Joined: 21 Jun 2008 | Pretty much everything exclusive to Xbow 360 except Gears of War. The controller is to bulky for me even with my long fingers (just used to the Playstation ones I guess). Gears is the only one I've played that I've gotten that much into it to forget about that. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 84 Joined: 31 Dec 2007 | Halo. The whole series. I utterly HATE Halo. I would rather play an FPS made back when they were GOOD and NOT trying to imitate Halo. Duke Nukem 3D >>> Halo. Goldeneye >>>>> Halo. Perfect Dark >>>>>>> Halo. And Animal Crossing. I don't hate it like I do Halo, but I find it dull, uninteresting, and pointless...and am very curious as to exactly where its popularity comes from. |

That's interesting. I've found the PS1/2/3 controller too small for my ham-like hands so the bulkier Xbox ones suit me perfectly. |
Beat Writer Posts: 172 Joined: 13 Mar 2008 | Diablo. With D3 coming out and everyone frothing at the mouth over it, I better thicken up my skin right quick I figure, as I did not at all enjoy the series. Diablo the original, despite being very, very simple and mind-numbing after a certain portion of time, I actually find better than the sequel, as I am one of the maladjusted unfortunates who does not enjoy being repeatedly killed and having to do stuff over and over again. If you don't absolutely optimize your build - and I much prefer having a broader amount of options to problem-solve with - you get screwed often, early and with a vigor that would make pornstars hang up their thongs. The story was nowhere near enthralling enough to keep me interested, and after the umpteenth time Duriel killed me three seconds after catching sight of him I just kind of gave up on the series as a whole. Not worth the frustration. I was never a fan of rhythm games, however they choose to tart them up. Dance Dance Revolution is like Simon in public, with your feet, with the difficulty ramped right up - it's embarrassing and I fail a lot and I have no idea how anyone finds that fun. Guitar Hero is the same thing, but alone in your room with your rockstar fantasies. I have no idea why, if anyone wants to play guitar that badly, they don't just, y'now, learn how to play the guitar. Plus having to go through the whole byzantine hacking process to be able to play some god damn Devin Townsend Band makes the whole thing just plain Not Worth It. Maple Story is brain-breakingly repetitive and difficult if you don't spend money on it. See also: the grand majority of 'free' MMORPGs. I need to write an article on this crap someday. |

Not a huge fan of guitar rock, and therefore the music in the game - my dad played sax in a soul band, so I grew up listening to soul, r&b and mowtown. But I am able to see the theoretical enjoyment, and I do appreciate the innovation to gameplay it provided. |

That was mainly at the wiimote. I just put six axis so someone wouldn't point out its not there. |
Paperboy Posts: 48 Joined: 30 Dec 2007 | Pretty much any racing game that does not allow you to blow up the other cars. Honestly, the only time I have fun in a car in a videogame is GTA or Twisted Metal. Part of this is my inability to be good at racing games, but then a big part of it is my anger at the fact that people can get their jollies by watching cars go in circles really really fast. Waste of fuel and time, in my opinion. |

Final Fantasy; Legend of Zelda; Metal Gear Solid; Halo.
Some movies too: Fuck James Bond. Fuck Indiana Johnes. Motherfuck Star Wars. The only good thing the latter had was James Earl Jones' voice, and it's not even in the prequels.
