Half-Life series. Don't get me wrong I don't hate it, but I'm not in love with it either.
Gears of War. Not impressed, and not excited about GoW2
WoW. Damn it gets addicting if you're not careful, but then again I was well grounded, and at that point I couldn't get into it.

I got to add to my list:
Super smash Melee, yeah it was fun, but the 64 one was so much better. Jigglypuff is supposed to suck and Link is supposed to be an awesome fighter, not the other way around.

World Of Warcraft... Coming from a former Actiblizzard employee it may sound bad, but the game is just so boring, plus the people you encounter are the most irritating, obsessive-compulsive, farm-junkies I have met in any game.

CS 1.5, CS 1.6: I like the latest source game, when I'm playing on a server with familiar people and competent admins. In China, where I am right now, everyone plays 1.5 even though it was a terribly unbalanced game. Everyone and their mother has hax for the game, and there is no security to prevent against it, so its really not worth playing. I tried introducing the people here to Source, but they didn't like it because you could win with a gun other than the AWP.

God of War: It was just a Rygar clone with a different storyline and "OMG BEWBZ!"

That Arab dude made a good point too about gaming consoles; i thought the Xbox consoles as well as the dreamcast were overrated.

I also thought that Star Wars Episode 4,5,6 were better than 1,2,3. Star Trek Voyager was better than the original with Kirk.

Tomatoes suck also, although ketchup is essential.

I think the Dreamcast is probably the most underrated console ever. It was an awesome machine that just couldn't flourish because of the PS2's hype and the ease of pirating games for it. Many people seem to forget that without the Dreamcast, Sony and Microsoft wouldn't have known what to do in regards to online gaming on consoles. Xbox Live was born from Dream Arena more or less. Everything the DC did wrong the PS2 and Xbox did right. They learnt from the DC's mistakes and in doing so it shows that gamers owe a lot to the DC for showing the others how to do things. Sega were very brave to venture into the 6th generation first and even though the DC was a short-lived affair its legacy continues to this day. I still have mine and like the occasional game now and then, it has some awesome classics like Shenmue, Virtua Tennis (still going even today) and Metropolis Street Racer (which was the precursor to the Project Gotham series).

Alright, it was significant to the advance of gaming consoles in respect to introducing online play. However, the fact that the games were so easy to copy, and there really weren't that many great ones in the first place make it a bad system. Just because it was important doesn't mean it was great, just look at (insert famous dictator here), real important dude to history, not exactly a prime example of humans' best characteristics.

I didn't hate Halo. I just found it decent. Good enough for the $20 I paid for it but not deserving of the massive hype nor did I feel any need to rush out and buy the sequels.

FEAR. Not particularly scary, and the gameplay doesn't make up for the lack of scariness(which is obviously the games main selling point).

FPS is general. I do not mind COD4 but other than that i have not enjoyed an fps since when i played Goldeneye at my Nintendo owning friends houses.

I am slowly enjoying the genre a bit more.

Also when all mi friends loved ragnarok i could not stand it but i guess MMO just aint my thing. I am a compulsive grinder but i need a point to my compulsive grinding. aka story.

Personally I never understood the appeal of the Diablo series or hell.

I also don't get the appeal of the RTS as a genre, I find most of these games boring and samey.

Half Life. It's not that I despise the series, all the games are objectively well done, but... they fail to captivate me.

So many people are calling Final Fantasy "overrated" these days that it's in serious danger of becoming UNDERrated.

Tetris. This may just be because I suck at it and will most likely always will, but I can't play it for more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time. (Strange thing is, I enjoy Hexic.)

Shadow Of The Colossus. The one game that seems to unite this whole forum into general agreement on it's greatness really leaves me cold. I played through the first 9 Colossi(?) waiting for it to grab me, but it really never did. The gameplay's stale for me:

Find Monster
Find way to climb on Monster
Stab Monster in blue bits

Ico's a far better game in my opinion.

Pretty much any racing game that does not allow you to blow up the other cars. Honestly, the only time I have fun in a car in a videogame is GTA or Twisted Metal. Part of this is my inability to be good at racing games, but then a big part of it is my anger at the fact that people can get their jollies by watching cars go in circles really really fast. Waste of fuel and time, in my opinion.

Great call, I used to love Twisted Metal! Something about killing a guy in a monster truck with an ice cream truck...still gives me goosebumps!

I seem to be one of the only ones here who finds MGS overrated. All my friends did nothing except rave about the storyline after they beat it, but to me the plot twists just seemed stupid at times and not at all believable at other times.

The original Halo was a great game in my opinion, but the sequels were overrated pieces of trash.

I guess FPS's in general I find overrated, they're all the same and they get repetative.

Also, this isn't a game, but I thought the movie 300 sucked and I don't know how my friends all think it's one of the greatest movies ever.

World of Warcraft. As I mentioned a short while back, I loathe MMOs. Just pointless time sinks you have to pay for in my book. Wow is so bad for this as it's so addictive that everyone sinks so far into it, losing money and their lives in the process. I played Wow, and apart from the human male dance animation upon which upon viewing I nearly died of laughter, it was shit. Just shit.

Team Fortress 2: The classes are nice, but it's so freakin' hard to get used to nine different, unique play styles that I just stopped playing. Oi vei.

Well I'm not exactly sure what point I made, I was just stating my hatred towards those two consoles and being somewhat vulgar, even though I just can't stand the 360 it's all a matter of preference, I mean, I can see why people like it, it's just that I don't know why it keeps them hooked, especially the Wii, that thing has cut so many corners that it's pretty much useless for me >_> - and, I'd say the dreamcast is an overrated underrated system. Mainly because people didn't appreciate what they had until it was gone.

I also think it's funny that XBL is getting dreamcast titles.

EDIT: Oh yeah, not to mention that since I'm highly in favor of my PC that in general I think most consoles suck, but I still respect them enough to actually buy them and...you know..use them, unlock most of those elitists out there. I'm biased, not completely blind but still biased. I respect the 360, I like the Wii but still can't believe there is a shortage of it, but I didn't really give many reasons why I don't like the 360 and Wii, mainly because I didn't have to prove a point, I just had to come in here and "hate something popular".

(Sorry about the delay of the edit but I just don't want to turn this into a console war, since what I said can be taken very much out of context without all the backstory.)

GTA - I do not get it... AT ALL. I know, it has to be a really good game, millions of people buy and play it.

But I can't see why anyone over seventeen would actively purchase this unless they are the type to buy hip hop albums just to look "cool".

The under seventeen crowd, I get it, it's got drugs and stealing, mum and dad don't get it and because of the M rating all your under-aged gaming friends think owning a copy makes you super rad...

The rest of the world... ?

Grand Theft Auto: Steal car, shoot hooker, run away from cops, repeat. At least...that's what I see of it.

could SOMEONE tell me where this "GTA tells people to kill hookers" shit came from?? with the permanent exception of children, you can mow down everybody from hobos to white-collar buisnessmen in that game, but why does everybody bring up hookers? since when has society valued hookers so damn much, and why are people so mad when a cloud of ones and zeroes
-resembling a hooker- gets cut down by indiscriminant weapon fire?

I'm glad someone else gets this... Well spotted my friend. I'd agree with the suggestion of Diablo because [click... click... click... click... click... click... drop magic bomb... click... click... take potion... click... click... click... click... click... click...] is not good gameplay. For me though it's Prince of Persia: Warrior Within that takes the prize here. I believe it outsold Sands of Time on its release, but removed most of the acrobatic free-running from the original and replaced it with a clunky method to find the best weapons to dual wield. They grafted the time-shift powers in poorly and finished off the insult with a long-winded, badly matched boss-fight with the lady in the metal thong (using the phrase "metal thong" in a sentence without a word of irony is usually a bit of a clue that someone has lost the plot). It's not good design for a game to have a boss-fight that takes 15 to 20 very repetetive minutes to get through, with the bonus that your first mistake will probably get you killed and force you to sit through the unjumpable cut-scenes again.

One day I will pick this game up again and get past this scene, but not today, and not soon.

What he said.

Silent Hill 2. I actually thought that game was kind of boring. That and the stupidity of the protagonist angered me to no end.

I'm not really a huge TF2 person to be honest. It's just that I can't stand the load times and the incredibly large patches that get released. It's a grand game but when factoring in the wait, it's not a shimmering gem for me.

But just because a game is flawed doesn't necessarily make it bad if it compensates for its flaws in other areas.

Did you stick it through til the payoff near the end? You'll then understand the "stupidity" of the main character. SH2 has one of the best plot twists ever IMHO, but I guess if you aren't into the series the game could be seen as boring.

50 bucks? You must have gotten it when they lost the format war and everything was on clearance. I remember before that everything was around the same price. I think HD-DVD players cost less but it was mainly competing against the PS3.

If you didn't you are incredibly lucky.

I'll give you examples of what I mean by stupidity.

After hearing a scream from the hallway, seeing Pyramid Head on the other side of the hallway with a bloody sword, then going into a room with a fresh corps, James ask "who did this to you?"

Hiding from Pyramid Head in a closet with blinds(don't know what you call those types of closet doors) with the light still on. If he ran, he would of had a better chance.

Reintroducing himself to Angela since the last time he met her.

"He stabbed you, there was blood everywhere!"
No really? It would be a little weird if there wasn't

I can't remember all of them and I haven't finished the game. I can only do something boring for so long. So sorry, but I was discouraged from finishing it.
