The reason I dont like sony anymore is because they totally messed up SWG, which I played like 5 years ago. I liked the idea level up your skill system, which is used in alot of mmo's, but it was still awesome and easy to use. I also like that to become a jedi it had to be achieved, by some way or another that was very difficult (they're jedi, what did you expect). It was annoying but it always gave something to strive to. It was fine the way they had the system, heck I didnt mind the SWG:JTL changes either, but then they made it so you could be jedi right off the back, and to top it off I was about 1 day from becoming one. They also made unnecessary changes that ruined the system. Now alot of people still play this game (lol) and say that the system is fine but for people who played it in the beginning it is not the same.
Something about Sony just rubs people the wrong way. You'd have to be a dedicated Playstationer to love them. Personally i think the only remarkable thing about them is the degree of which they're stuck up their own arse.
Case in point. Everything Sony releases is WAY over priced. When the PSP came out in Aus it was nearly $1000! and the PS3 is to much for something that is very much the same thing as an Xbox which now costs only a few hundred. People dont want to loose all their money just to play games, this is why I'm a dedicated Xboxer and refuse to play a PS3.
P.S. Console Wars? scary thought. Seriously, there's bound to be a all out war between console supporters one day. Scary.
hippo24: Sony is the big boy on the market, it boasts it's power tenacity and technical superiority to all other game systems, So it's natural that everyone hates the winner and roots for the underdog.
but in reality it's not being but to it's potential....but im a PC gamer so what the heck do i know
The problem with that is that the 360 isn't the Underdog, the modest power and yet limitless potential of the Wii is. But those same people are saying the Wii is shit, and the 360 is the only decent console, despite its numerous proofs that it doesn't care about its fans (charging for Live, releasing wave upon wave of 360 with RROD, he next Banjo Kazooie)
Errr... i don't really see how Nintendo could be considered an Underdog in the console industry...

Probably Anti, and I will be on the field with my sword and my armor with a big (whatever the logo is for the game consle i like, disregarding sonys) on my chest.
When it was just Sega and Nintendo, the "video game war" was almost playful and cordial compared to what it became once Sony showed up, waving its digital wang in everyone's face and spawning a culture of arrogance amongst its fanbase. Even after they completely dropped the ball on the PS2 having only 2 controller ports again (hell they even said "it'll have as many as gamers would think necessary" PROTIP: That answer wasn't two), people were still riding the Sony wave. And then at E3 2005 they declared the video game war to be over, which seems odd to me considering the fact that it's still going on now. I'll get back to the main crux in a moment.
Sony is a far bigger company than MS or Nintendo. Sony after all has Sony Music, Sony Pictures, and Sony everything else (computers, Playstations, car stereos, etc.). And wheras in some big companies certain divisions might be more civilized than the others, it seems (at least from a lot of news items) that Sony is all around a group of people who openly show contempt for the people who buy their products and made them so filthy rich in the first place.
Cases in point are as follows, some of them personal to me or people I know.
1. Sony Pictures used fake critics to give praising reviews to certain movies (such as "A Knight's Tale). I'm not saying that's never been done before, but just stick with me 2. A friend of mine's Sony VAIO laptop was on the fritz. She sent it in because the keyboard was warped and the power supply no longer working right. Rather than attempt to fix it like logical people, they instead said it couldn't be fixed due to water damage (a lie), and sent it back so that when she got it back, it actually no longer worked at all, instead immediately booting to a blue screen of death. That's right, they broke something and rather than own up to it blamed the user. Compare that to my experience with my first and only red ring of death from Microsoft. Not only did they fix it for me, but it was for FREE despite my not having a warranty on it. This was before the "free repairs for 2 years" thing was publicly instituted as well. 3. Sony BMG doing such wonderful things like bribing DJs. Also there was the time they had their CDs install spyware on people's computers, and then declared "it's nobody's business what that does". And of course now they've declared that ripping CDs you bought with your money onto your computer for your own listening is still theft and/or piracy. 4. Sony's latest two big gaffes regarding the PS3. I won't list everything because I don't think that's necessary, so I'll just focus on the Motion-sensing and the Rumble. First off, motion-sensing was just them blatantly trying to go "look! We're innovative too!" since Six-Axis didn't even exist in the PS3 until the Wii's Big Important Selling Point was introduced to the world; the Rumble thing was just another case of digital penis wagging. If you're having trouble getting the rights, just say so. Don't make up a reason that roughly boils down to "rumble is for suckas"
Ok and I would be remiss to point out SCEA president Jack Tretton saying that PS3s wouldn't be found on shelves at all and that he'd pay a $1200 bounty to anyone who could find one and then having that point immediately perforated by Penny Arcade. No business is perfect, I know this, but come on, this kind of behavior is juvenile at best and ridiculous at worst.
Now I liked the PS2, but after all this, I refuse to support Sony any further. Too much bad blood. Microsoft redeemed themselves for me, and Nintendo never did anything wrong to me personally unless we count them optioning out the Starfox series to a bunch of monkeys and fanfic writers with computers and not releasing any more of the "Mother" series stateside.

Notice how I said the modest power and limitless potential thing. How else are we going to determine who the Underdogs are?
Indigo_Dingo: Has anyone pointed out that without Sony there would be no GTA or Guitar Hero?
Apparantly, some developers said that if there was no Sony there would no be advancments in console technology, which makes sense when you think about it.
Does really. Without the ps2, we all would have stayed with the N64, limitted to what it could produce. And don't say Dreamcast, cause that was doomed anyway.
Don't say the Dreamcast because you know full well that it would drive a truck-sized hole through your argument. It was way ahead of its time and in many ways superior to the PS2, but it was handicapped by narrow-minded, pro-Sony d1ckheads, Sega's recent bad form with supporting their hardware (Sega-CD, Saturn, etc) and Sony's bottomless pockets. They could afford to push it in the media harder than Sega could and also slip prominent stores some money to promote their product. I saw it in action and I know people in retail who fully own up to it. I watched a few people talking to the jerks in EB about what console they should buy (this was prior to the PS2 release and just after the Dreamcast launch) and all I'd hear them do was recite the Sony marketing speil word for word. You'd have the person asking stuff like "What's that box down there, behind the stand, underneath the ladder?" "Umm, that's nothing. In fact I don't even know what it's doing here" "The box says Dreamcast on it, isn't that the new console I've heard a little about?" "Highly unlikely" *coughs* "But that game over there, 'Soul Caliber' says Dreamcast on the spine; the one you are using as a doorstop" "Sooooo, like I was saying the PS2 has Tekken on it.."
Is anyone else seeing the goddamn irony in this post?
Notice how I said the modest power and limitless potential thing. How else are we going to determine who the Underdogs are?
Total and Monthly sales in a region. EX.360 is underdog in Japan and Mainland Europe PS3 is underdog in North America and UK. Wii is topdog everywhere.

Since when do we decide underdog by that? Are you blind man? The Underdogs are always the group thats been bone idle lazy, is made up of dysfunctional weirdos, but got their ass into gear and are finally at the top. And thats Nintendo all the way. Haven't you ever seen a cheesy sports movie that wasn't Bad News Bears?

un·der·dog (ndr-dôg, -dg) n. 1. One that is expected to lose a contest or struggle, as in sports or politics. 2. One that is at a disadvantage.
They don't have to win in the end to be an underdog (Cube was the underdog of last gen and it got crushed)
Give me a reason that you dislike the PS3 or Sony and I'll find a reason that you are either stupid, unlucky, or that other companies have done it before.
Well, you better get to work replying to pretty much 50% of the people who posted here.
I bet even if the PS3 "won" the console war(s) a bunch of idiots would just say "It only won because it was a blu-ray player! How many people actually bought it for games?!?!?!" There's no doubt in my mind that that would happen.

Connecting PSP to it is too lengthy a process and the little reason too do it(Playing Music and Video off it is easier on 360 other features are rendered pointless by custom firmware)
PSP doesn't have a second nub
VAIOs are beaten by other laptops in everyway

But i don't see 360 connecting to a handheld (not sure if it can to an MP3 player or the like) and have you ever tried to connect your DS to your Wii to get a demo for your DS? It's takes so god damn long!
Lol, i just noticed that the computer I'm typing on is a Sony XD that's convenient.

The 360 can hook up any MP3/Video player that has a USB cable (including the unholy PSP and ipod)
I had a DS lost it (been lost for 2 years don't care) and only had a wii for a month then sold it.
EDIT: I'm on a dell the PC fanboys system of choice.

Many pointless features on consoles are put on there to make sure stupid people don't cry. To connect it you just have to plug it into the PS3 (I'e never done it so I don't know how long the connection takes). But if it takes that long anybody can find time. And if they don't have the time to wait they probably don't have time to play games. And you can play music and videos just as easily on the PS3.

Although I did say Sony I was hoping to stay on the gaming subject. I'm 15 so I don't really know anything about or give a shit about laptops.
Edit: Sorry. screwed up on the quotes but don't have the time right now to fix them.

Fine, be a bitch.
But i usually use my laptop which is a dell, though it's remarkably slower than the one i'm using right now (though it is a laptop :\)
You need to make a playstation ID and register and even then finding your music and videos is a painful procedure of folder searching.
My complaint is there is no second nub to control the games MS has no done this to me (P.S they have Windows Mobile and that thing you have on laptops)
They are expensive (around 2000) but have the same profile/performance of a $1500 one form DELL or HP.
I agree with AceDiamond there. when the consumers feel the company is intentionally misleading them, it's natural to find something wrong with this. even more so when the company seems to disrespect the consumer and have nothing but contempt for them.
Why the hate for sony? because they have no respect for the consumer. of course, that doesn't stop most people from buying sony products, just makes them complain about it. and as long as sony keeps getting the moola, they won't care who the piss off.
I actually just bought a PS3, although I only bought it to replace my PS2, which had broken. The value of the PS3 is, to me, currently housed almost entirely in future potential.
My observations so far:
Cons:
- I bought MGS4, but I'm not sure that I'm as "into it" as I'm supposed to be. C'est la vie. I'll beat it eventually, but right now I'm mostly playing my old PS2 titles again, which goes to show how gripping the PS3 lineup is for me at present. It's also worth mentioning that the only other currently released game that even interests me is Ratchet and Clank. So yeah, basically the library is lacking. - I rented a few titles to confirm my earlier observations and so far I'm right. I can't find a single game that I own for the X360 that plays better on the PS3. Some are basically the same, some are noticeably worse, and most of the PS3 titles have install times, which should improve performance, and yet somehow doesn't. - I don't like the controller, but then I never really have. Damn thing feels too light in my hand. - What the hell is with the rounded top? I have limited space and wanted to lay it flat, but with how heavy it is, I didn't want to set it on top of my other crap. However, since the top is apparently designed to remind us of a car's hood, I can't stack devices on it and had to set up a special separate area to stand it up in.
Pros:
- I like the built-in wireless, although mine has a tendency to blink at times, that may be normal for everyone, PSN connection trouble, or just my unit, I'm not sure. Question to longer term PS3 owners: how stable is the PSN connection over wireless supposed to be? - I enjoy the menu system. It's less cluttered than the 360's, and while I'm unconvinced that it's "better", I think they did just fine with it. - The ability to sync up my bluetooth headset for my cellphone with the PS3 instead of having to go buy "their brand" was a nice touch. - While I don't own any BluRay movies, I'm sure that at some point I will be glad to own a machine that can play them. I will say that the PS3 plays my current movies very well (possibly better than the 360, though it's tough to say for certain), although it seems to require that I turn the sound up really high for some reason.
Other:
- Where the hell is Home, LittleBigPlanet, and White Knight? Those were the things that made me most excited about a PS3, and now that I finally have one, I feel that Sony owes me these products at once. - This is too circumstantial to be listed as a true "con", but in my circle, I know one (count them, one) guy who owns a PS3 but not an XBox, but I know dozens of guys who have 360's and may also own PS3's. What this means is that most of us buy our multiplayer games on XBox anyway, to get maximum multiplayer coverage. This saddens me.
But I guess this is supposed to be a thread about Sony, not their latest home console unit, and on that front I can say that in the computing market, Sony has made overpriced and underperforming products for years. In fact, you can stick "overpriced" on almost anything they do. Also, their customer service is nigh-legendary for how bad it is. Lucky for them, while their hardware is rarely top of the line, it usually doesn't have too high a failure rate either.
I don't care for Sony as a company at all, but if good games come out for their system, I'll buy.

the wireless stability is dependant upon the game. for example, i used to run a weak 34% signal and when playing Warhawk it was magically flawless. however, with other games it was spotty and inconsistent.
in the end i had to hardwire it anyways since wifi signals don't like transmitting through antique tin ceilings.
Ah. I haven't played anything online yet, I've mostly just noticed it when I'm on the menu screen. There'll be some error that basically says, "You're not on the PSN anymore and we don't know why." Then I go sign in again and I'm back on, then five minutes later I'm off again. I plan to hardwire it for gaming. Hell, the MGS4 manual flat-out tells you not to use wireless.

yeah, i think its an issue of accounting for "packet loss" and most videogames don't account for it well. wireless is never consistent, no matter what device you use.
This thread has become the target of many a fanboy I see. I personally dislike sony because of their overpriced electronics, and the false promises.
I own a PS3 and a Xbox360 too, and though the PS3 makes for a great blu-ray player, it rarely gets any playtime because the current library isn't that great in my opinion. I can understand why people love the system, it's sleek, silent, has a pretty XMB, but the only reason i'm keeping it is for the occasional Blu-ray and the future potential in mind. (LittleBigPlanet, amongst others)
And oh yes, the Xbox360 has some big flaws too, but I play it for several hours every single day, and that is what matters most.
