The analogy also sucks, because most MMOs never end. Sure, you might finish the content at that moment, but the developers (aside from Blizzard, apparently) keep adding more to it with updates, so the world evolves and players get new things to see. As for my least favourite genre...it's definitely sports games. It's not that they exist, it's that every new sports game is just a roster update and you could do those as DLC these days. And the game companies probably would comply to the idea of releasing roster updates to games for like $20 or something if it weren't for people actually buying every new sports game, because apparently playing with last year's roster sucks. Not a genre, but another pet peeve of mine is the current obsession by western companies to make everything first person. I mean, I have nothing against the perspective, but I'd also like to see more isometric games, more top-down view, more from behind...or some other wacky new perspective I haven't seen. Just having first person games is boring. |

Angsty children with silly hair-cuts and ridiculously large swords saving the world whilst taking turns letting monsters hit them in the face? Pass. That, or football games. The last good football game ever made was NFL: Blitz for the Nintendo 64. Every other football game just feels like a clone of the others, with a different title on the box. |

But TBH i don't want to be scared so shitless I cant play the god damn game. Sports Games make no sense and RPGs annoy me. |

out of curiosity, why all the hate twards racing games? |
Paperboy Posts: 26 Joined: 22 Jul 2008 | Never been able to get into football sim games, despite everyone I know spending half their life on PES. It's probably because i'm just rubbish at them! Shame really as I love the sport. Football management games (ie champ man and football man) are a different kettle of fish, wasted many a weekend trying to get my beloved Bradford City into Europe. |

The only one I can think of that doesn't have any really standout titles for me would be 'track and field' style games like the new Olympics games. Minigame collections as a whole turn me off but there's still stuff like Wario Ware and the super duper awesome 'Point Blank' |
Paperboy Posts: 36 Joined: 4 Jun 2008 | I used to play Runescape but now I try to stay away from MMORPGS (I have tried a few trials) Sport games (including racing games because they are sport games too) The team sport games are tho most pointless games ever! i don't have to do anything and the game will play itself! Why make something like that? I have almost no control over the players. I usually just smashed the buttons. JRPGS I don't like those ridiculous haircuts. Who has hair like that? White people in japan? That Cloud guy is not a male. What is that sword made out of anyway? Foam? If it was anything that resembles metal/ceramics he'd be dragging that thing because it would probably weigh more than him, if his puny 10 year old arms can even hold on to it. I generally don't like 3rd person shooters, but I did like the Max Payne series and Hitman series. Puzzle/board games on the computer and anything to do with playing a virtual instrument. And too arcadey FPS games. |

Games that try to be too realistic just piss me off, you stand behind a wall for 20 minutes taking guys out 1 by 1 you think its clear and run out only to find there was a guy standing patiently waiting for you and shoots you in your toe twice and your dead. Also terrorist games fall into this catogory. I don't care if the fake US president has been kidnapped by terrorists, thats not a good fucking story to go on. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1124 Joined: 17 Jun 2008 | It seems that 90% of the complaints of JRPGs are "Male characters kinda look like girls! Har har!" Please, explain to me why that is justification for not liking an entire genre. |

Turn based is a big cock blocker for me in those games. And ridiculous storys that don't make sense.(MGS4 did make sense if you got the full story.) |
Muckraker Posts: 299 Joined: 15 Nov 2007 | It's a toss up between sports games, and MMORPGs for me. I don't care for sports games because I'm not into sports. I don't watch the NFL so the names in Madden mean nothing to me. Being able to create my own team of custom players in NBA2KX on the Dreamcast was pretty fun, but that's the last time I played a sports title. I hate MMORPGs because they take a genre I love (RPGs), and focus on the least interesting aspect of it; leveling up. They remove story, character development, and the thrill of exploring new places from the genre, and replace it with a few thousand people who are doing the same exact quests as you, making your character less important than the guy who just stands around with an exclamation mark over his head all day. |

I mentioned FPS games because, like yahtzee said, most developers creating FPS titles often say,"Let's be like Halo" Most FPS games are pretty much copycat titles. Games that aren't are titles like Portal,Metroid (GOD I LOVE THAT GAME.) COD4 and Bioshock. It isnt that I dislike those genres. Reason why i mentioned games like Guitar Hero because, again, Red Octane pretty much wiped their dicks all over guitar hero, and changed it into yup, a Rock Band clone. Look at games now that try to be a Rock Band Killer. Battle of the Bands, Rock Revolution, GH World tour.
As with sports games, I dont hate them as much when they have a little twist on it. Mario Strikers for instance. That game was an absolute blast. And sports games only ever become fun when you are around people. It's retarded to have people buy the same fucking game over and over again, when really, everything remains unchanged, except for a few things added/removed.
Oh btw
um.... yeah. I named around 6 genres in video games out of a possible what? 50 something? There are only two in that list I sincerely hate. MMORPG's and God games. Racing doesn't count as a sport. You must be mistaking NASCAR. I enjoy racing games a lot, but the thing is, they aren't in the same tier as sports games. They are a seperate genre.
