I think it'd be cool to have GTA in set during an historic event but it's not GTA's or Rockstar's style.

Look for GUN, you'll get some kicks

hmm.. wonder how many people if they were a girl would prostitute themselves, or undoubtedly turn lesbian.

GTA III and IV: essentially New York (northeastern US)
GTA Vice City: essentially Miami (southeastern US)
GTA San Andreas: essentially San Fransisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas (southwestern US)

Conclusion GTA V (on the off chance they decide to call it that) shall be set in the as-yet untouched corner, the northwest, which leads me to believe: Seattle. I sense awesomeness in the air as Redmond, home of everybody's favorite operating system manufacturer, is a large suburb of Seattle. Whacking the people on Bill Gates enemies list? Kappa Coffee houses (from GTA 3) on every corner, a la Starbucks? An hilarious interpretation of the Space Needle? How could that not be fun?

Sure, I'd love to see GTA surrogate Chicago, what with real Chicago being 30 miles down the road from me and all, but I really talked myself into Seattle there.

Rockstar should team up with Lucasarts and make GTA: Coruscant.

At 6 stars, you get Jedi after you.

Squeaksx:
For those who state that the main character should be a girl, here's a thought. GTA has always had an undertone/overtone of sexuality and if you place the main character's gender in the female area then one of two things would probably happen. A. They would have to be lesbian. (Politically Correct idiots shut up.) B. She would have to be swishy. And C (I know I said two, but eh) some of the guys would have to have a gigilo(SP) type personality. In terms of location, perhaps a place like Tokyo would be good because it would probably be stock full of nice cars, interesting locals, and -interesting- characters.

I'd wager more on her being bi than full-on gay and I do NOT want Tila Tequila involved no matter how many of her friends cry for it. She didn't invent bisexuality and I'm sure a lot of more sophisticated bi girls hate her.

Maybe I'm being too idealistic, but she doesn't have to be a man-hater and like Indigo_Dingo said, the woman would likely just show how even MORE jackassed the supporting cast can be (though Brucie is tough to out-do.) I can see her as being as subtly disturbed as Niko (daddy molested her in the past) or she could be "whacked out of her mind" insane like Tommy Vercetti mixed with Harley Quinn.

There'd likely be a pivotal male love interest, but if its not part of the storyline, the girl/girl fling would probably be just a bonus girl whether she's hidden like in San Andreas or found online like GTA4. If anything, she'd likely be a PARODY of famous bi women like Angelina Jolie and/or Tila.

how about an MMO? make a big enough city and the game seems like a great setup for it since all the missions are pretty much grinding anyway

The day GTA becomes an MMO is the day I drive up to the Rockstar North headquarters and use a muckspreader to redecorate the front of their building.
I hope it isn't in America but then again if it was in the UK it would probably be fairly poo-flavoured so somewhere unusual, maybe on the US/Mexico border, and do stuff a la smugglers run, getting people over the border.

Epic, simply epic, as much as I think Rockstar and Lucasarts would be a shite combination and a GTA/Star Wars game would suck, the idea of being chased by Jedi still would be brilliant, I think that is a cue for the modders.

Or, set it in London and include Doctor Who, get 6 stars you get the Dalek battle fleet after you

Toronto would be cool, there could be like terrorist missions where u sneak a bomb into the ROM and like kill some guy in the CN Tower restaurant and have to escape, u have to admit it would be sick

They should do Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane (Australia)
Failing that, they should try London again.

Sackwak:
Australia sounds alright. Not much scenary tho. Dirt....Wow!

Ok you are one of three possiblities:
1. You have never been to Australia.
2. You have only been to the center of Australia.
3. You are just being an a.hole.

I think that making a remake of gta in London whould be good. The yanks will just have to get used to the left handed driving. The scenes in London at the moment would provide a good map, plus the Thames could be used as the island seperator.

Spot on, mate. Make it a Sydney the size of Liberty City. To mix it up, how about we get a new Korean immigrant? Or would that be offensive?

I wnat it set in the UK.

Let the yanks go through the whole "driving on the wrong side of the road" thing we have to.

If you want a gta style game set in the uk go and buy The Getaway. Plus if it was set in UK there would be no doubt that all characters would either talk with an irritating "fackin millwall cant" cockney accent, or in a stereotypical "oh are you enjoying the jolly good cricket arthur old chap eh?" posh accent because whenever the english are included in any sort of american media that is how we are portrayed, annoyingly.
Personally I think the idea of it being like Gangs Of New York would be an awesome game, mostly because combat wouldnt just be me crouched behind a box 100ft away from the enemies poppin up every 5 seconds to kill one of them.

i personally would love to see a post zombie apocalyspe GTA. With the few remaining survivors fighting over surplies while the military polices the whole thing. Epic gun fights would ensue. to make matter even more awesome there could still be the odd zombie running around and the turning point at the end could be a zombie resurgence and the player has to flee the city, or help fight.
Instead of the second island being locked down because of terrorists it could be locked down because the area is still infested by the undead and the military is trying to clear it. Instead of the military killing you if you try and cross it would be the zombie hordes.
Also everyone would be armed of course.

the idea of a star wars/gta game could be intersting but it could go horrible wrong easly. the star wars universe is so uneven as it is.

but a cross over that makes a little more sense is GTA:Gothom city i mean it be intresting to be a thug in jokers gang and work ur way up to being a super villian yerself of crouse instead of getting a swat team at 6 stars u have to get away from batman. could u imagine a mission breaking out of arkum asylum

Reasonable Doubt:
I say Rome, that would be interesting.

This, but only if it was ancient Rome. Does anyone know how prevailant Chariots were at the time?

The social netwokring element of IV could easily carry across to chariot races, gladiator matches, etc, a switch from projectile to melee fighting would be very interesting, and they can shoehorn in all the political commentary by making really heavy-handed comparisons between the roman empire and the modern western world.

Also, they could call it Grand Theft Avto.

That's actually my favorite idea of all the ones mentioned. Partly because I live in Seattle, and partly because it's an American city that doesn't really look like anything they've done before.

Well, this thread is huge, so I didn't read very much of it, so forgive me if everybody's already saying this, but considering that they've covered "New York," "Miami," and "Los Angeles," I'm surprised that they haven't gone to a Vegas-esque city yet.

EDIT: I did notice on this page, some talk about a female protagonist. I think it would be a good idea, actually. It's a sandbox game, so you can be as floozy or as rug-munching as you want her to be. Or maybe some of us will actually play her as a respectable femme-fatale. ;) But I think it would be hilarious if you had the option to make money by whoring yourself out, and then, when you get out of the car, the driver gets out and tries to kill you to take his money back.

Of course, I find this funny in the sense of gamers' karmic comeuppance, and not because I think killing hookers is hilarious. Necessarily.

I'd like to revisit London in 3D. Not sure how much international appeal there would be though. Ofcourse, it would deal with stereotypes, but I don't think Rockstar would have the typical American view because Rockstar North are not American.

Noob.

It's almost guaranteed that the next city they'll use will be in America, seeing as a major part of the game is commentary on our culture. The most obvious choice, of course, would be Chicago, although I personally think it would be better if they pulled another San Andreas and included Detroit as well. A lot of people mentioned Seattle; while there are certainly a lot of directions they could take that, Seattle isn't really known for crime problems/gangs. I'd still play it, though.

If we could get a foreign city, though, I'd be down for Tokyo. That would be awesome.

I'd have to say either Israel; Brazil; Sicily,Italy; or Moscow, Russia. Although it would cool if they made GTA take place in Nazi, Germany during World War I.

Im not sure but I think that "we Yanks" are one of the only countries that drive on the right hand side of the road. so if anyone drives on the wrong side of the road its us.

anyway I would like to see it in some European country that would be a nice change of pace.

People only drive on the left hand side of the road in Britain, New Zealand and a few other countries.

Slightly more than that, and you forgot Australia. Way more countries drive on the right though.

Now I think about it, it should not be set in Australia. The ESRB would probably ban it completely.

I agree there - it always gets me.
And it should be anywhere else apart from London...
