I am baffled by the (no doubt 100% true) example you gave on someone hating on you because you're American. How does the country that your parents chose to raise you make you a bad person? Sure it's run by some questionable people, hell my country was (and probably still is to an extent) but take it up with them and not some guy trying to enjoy a multiplayer game of Halo 3 (which is becoming increasingly hard to do I've notice). Maybe he was just a jealous tosswad after getting beaten. |

The former masters of the world, now confined to their single island (and the land they stole from Ireland), they have become angry and bitter. They constantly berate us about WWII and how we didn't do anything to win it. Because as we all know Britain was so brave and powerful right? Hitler's rebuilding his army? "Adolf your a very bad boy! Put those panzers away before you conquer France!" Hitler's annexed part of Chezchlosovakia? "Everything's alright Adolf. Why don't we just let you have you have it with no strings attached? Oh well you can't have anymore land or we'll be very cross! Well probaly." You won the Battle of Britain right? Well did you save Western Europe all alone? "No but we didn't need you fatasses! The Russians and us would've won! That's right the Soviets were noble and loved freedom unlike you!" Now there's the crux of the matter. Americans not only helped liberate Western Europe and died for Frenchmen too cowardly to resist they kept all of the West safe from the Soviets. How long do think you would have held out against the most powerful nation on Earth? Cause remember only after we entered did our economy and power grow. You would've been alone and you would've lost and every European nation would still be ruled by totalitarianism and terror. |

Personally, I have never once given or received flak or insults for nationality, so I can't vote for the first two. My irk isn't with any one specific group so much as people with shitty microphones and LOUD GOD DAMNED STATICKY VOICES THAT ARE FUCKING LOUD Drives me up a wall in a Volvo, I hate it. |

Haven't you heard? All Americans have horrid accents and wear cowboy hats. Also, we love cheeseburgers and war. "Yeehaw" and so on. I've grown to detest two accents. First, the really heavy New York accent which is like nails on a chalkboard. Second, cockney accents. You know who I'm talking about, they can't be "bovered" to enunciate properly but god knows, they invented the language so they must be right. I voted for kids. It seems like the most annoying children on the planet have parents who use an Xbox Live subscription as a babysitter. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 675 Joined: 14 Dec 2007 | I voted for little kids, although I have a special hatered for British little kids. Something about the fact that they all sound like John Oliver on helium makes me want to reach through the screen and... On second thought, I'd better not finish that sentance for fear of the ban-hammer. |

Not because of live, nor anything in particular (i dont hate anyone at all) but I thought the last time I met British kids they were annoying as hell. Hear this: I'm in Spain arriving at the Hotel, waiting on the dude for my key, then this British kid turns up: "Wow you're tall. I was pissed at the time, but thinking back just makes me rofl. |
Muckraker Posts: 296 Joined: 14 May 2008 | I vote Americans, but only the ones who claim your hacking and the ones who get upset when you get bored and tk them. Edit; British Kids do tend to piss me off too, most of then are thick as several short planks. Me not being a kid any more, and bliddy helL are they cocky at school walking around like they own the place. Ah well i will be a prefect soon then they are doomed to detention and lines MUHAHAHAHA. *ahem*. |

Though I have never been heard bashing someone because of their accent or otherwise. For a fifteen year-old American I'm quite nice. When somebody kills me I don't say they're glitching (unless they were). I'm quite easy-going. Even if I'm playing GH3 and get 219,999 on a song it takes 220,000 to get five stars then I don't go throwing my controller (that would be a waste of money) I say "Darn so close. But if I do it again I might hit a note I missed and get five stars, or not. I genually do this thing called "ignoring". I say that to my friends when I am annoying them and they try to annoy me. "Sorry not paying attention. I'm doing this thing called IGNORING. It really helps when somebody is annoying you." |

Paperboy Posts: 13 Joined: 5 May 2008 | ahh yay for stereotypes so much fun they are I have no national pride really not that im not proud of england and for some reason can never see me leaving this country to live somewhere else. however i feel no great reason to bad mouth other nations over my own. I mean it's not like i live in utopia is it ( looks at 12ohsmash and sighs) however the one thing that grat's me more than anything it's not kids or the American accent. It's in particular one word that I'm afraid to stereotype hear and say I've heard it most often from Americans of many ages and that the overuse of the magical word "faggot" |

True, but heres the thing. Everyone can understand WHY peolpe hate Americans, but no one seems t give a strait answer when you ask "why does america hate other countries?" |

Copy Clerk Posts: 94 Joined: 14 May 2008 | As far as accents are concerned, I'm one of a small minority of British folk who actually like most American accents. Maybe it's because my first girlfriend was American; while visiting her in Colorado, I don't think I've ever been made to feel so welcome as I have by her family and friends. There are some things the American Government does which annoy me: but then those same things seem to annoy a great many Americans. That being said, I find it rather ridiculous that us Brits are being berated here for appeasing Hitler, since America wasn't exactly keen to fight the Nazis themselves. But if we're going to get in to an argument over who made the biggest sacrifice in WWII, then both countries are going to lose, by some margin, to the Soviet Union. But, you know what? Together we finished off the Third Reich, and of all the events of history, it's the thing we both can be most proud of. And if we can do that, what chance to the Covenant have? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 117 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | I've never heard or seen a flame war between a British and a American just because of there location. On the server i play on TF2 the ages vary to 10 to 40 and the countries vary to Canada, America and Brittan and we all congratulate each other every time we kill each other or beat each other. I knew there were always disputes on live between Europe And North America but i never figured there was this much. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 677 Joined: 26 Mar 2008 | On a similar topic, my folks just got back from travelling through the UK, Scandonavia and America and they said that everyone in the european countries picked their Australian accents immediately, however when they went to the US everyone thought they were English. Is it an assumption over there that anyone who doesn't speak "American" English is therefore British? While we don't speak with the rural, outback kind of Australian accent you hear the stereotype characters in movies use (or Steve Irwin - R.I.P), it's pretty obviously different to the British accent, which also differs depending on where you hail from. |
Paperboy Posts: 13 Joined: 9 Jul 2008 | Well think about it. That other Australian accents are we exposed to? |
Paperboy Posts: 45 Joined: 2 Jul 2008 | ALot of Americans always comment on my accent (Scottish i thank you =] ) and always say "Omg it's so awesome" ect and they best way to quiet some idiot i find is to insult them so much that they can't get a word out but this only works with friends present. |

Mmm. Yes. I hate myself, in fact. Now I shall go off to the coffee shop, but only order tea. I'm so counter. I also find it amusing the number of people who've come in here to discuss with other people how much all people suck. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 8 Joined: 9 Jul 2008 | Honestly? I am 100% American, and I enjoy the company of anyone at all, but especially from others from out of the country. I've never been out of the country, but every time I hear anyone from other nationality, I actually pay them more attention. For me, I break this down into the idea that, to me, a European accent is foreign, exotic, different, and overall just doesn't make one sound like a thug. I listen to myself for example, and I honestly think I sound like some guy who would want to mug you in an alley somewhere. Now, if I heard someone with, say, a British accent speak even the exact same words, to me it sounds 'classier', and just better. To this effect, you get the nationally stuck up people who sooner would say "My country > yours." simply because there exists an invisible line between them. These people, generally, are very closed minded and foolish. To me, anyone and everyone is still human, and deserves an equal amount of respect and trust...until the first F-bomb flies my way, then hell breaks loose. Either way, I am among those who doesn't care if you have a British, German, Russian, whatever accent. Heck, I might like you more if you have something besides an American accent, but it makes me fail to understand why people from America seem to hate the Brits...I just don't get it. |

There's a general "american" accent where the hard r is very pronounced. The texas or southern drawl particularly annoys me. I suppose you could also simply describe the american accent as English spoken without either a British or Australian accent. |

i had to laugh at all this talk English was created by duh duh dum the British it may have had parts of Latin and Germanic and French but that's because we were invaded by every one and there aunts! |
Beat Writer Posts: 156 Joined: 11 Jan 2008 | man there's a good bit of transatlantic hate on this board. why don't we all just agree that there are dicks on both sides of the pond, but that that doesn't necessarily mean one country or the other is inhabited solely by them, eh? how bout showin a little love just because we're all human? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 94 Joined: 6 Apr 2008 | Some of the nicest guys I've played Live with were Brits. I don't even mind little kids too much, as long as they act maturely (believe me, I've played with a few). They only start to get on my nerves when they start singing, screaming, saying that they screwed my mom in their squeaky high voices that indicate that they won't hit puberty for another ten to fifteen years, and otherwise being douchebags. Only then do I play the "Did your mommy buy this game for you?" card. |

I see your ban has expired ANTI-SANTA. I'll tell you one thing that should explain everything: Hate breeds hate. Many hate America for its greatness (this is called jealousy) or its willingness to do the dirty work (go to war to prevent terrorism or genocide or the spread and existence of totalitarian governments) or even to have the audacity to spell more phoenetically and pronounce all the letters (*gasp* a crack at Brits!). In turn America hates them for their pointless hatred of America. There, an America-centric point of view so you know what this is about. More generic: most people are patriots so if you start hating on their country they will defend it by hating on your's. |

Good gracious, yes. I am American and a lot of our accents tend to be the most annoying manner of pronunciation in existence, specifically in the far north. |

Point. Hell, when I was state side, I just thought 'fuck it' with my normal, slightly Nasal British accent, and just went full blown rural/bogan Aussie. Doing this means the yanks will actually listen to what your saying, rather than trying to figure out where your accent is from and forcing you to repeat yourself. Saves time. Just a side note, Australia has impression that a large amount of Americans are stupid and sheltered people, not knowing anything about the world beyond their own boarders. While this is a gross generalisation, my trip didn't exactly help rid me of the stereotype. Still, being able to pick up women just by opening my mouthwas great. And the guns. I might claim I've been big hunting, but I've certainly never fired a carbine. |

I'd laugh at this. News for everyone, the only language that was ever created is esperanto (I discount sign languages as they are straight copies of a spoken language). Languages EVOLVE based on need, discovery, and corruption over time. Even the first languages, they evolved from instinctual communication of simple concepts (like "food" and "help!"). In fact if standardization and global communication haven't artificially slowed sundering British English and American English would be considered different languages by now (they might even be mutually unintelligible). With the enormous number of idioms and pronunciation descrepencies unintelligibility between these super-dialects may not be far off. |

And what, exactly, is an American accent? There are lots of American accents... the Texas Drawl, the New York Accent, the Californian Accent, the Agent Smith accent (forgot which region his was from, sorry, think it's Boston)...
There isn't an "American" accent. I assume your talking about the Texas Drawl, right? That accent only annoys me when the speaker is rascist.
