There were buttloads of games last year that I would have bought if I had the money, but unfortunately fate intervened and I had to pay for college. Sadly, the cosmic backlash from 2007 has set my standard low this year and I don't expect a lot to draw my attention aside from Guitar Hero: Metallica coming in 2009 and Rock Band 2.

I'm actually trying to stay away from the underground video gaming scene as much as possible because in recent years I've come to the conclusion that the underground is full of presumptious, narrow-minded, pre-pubescent pricks who think Led Zeppelin and Halo are the spiritual successors to the throne of Jesus Christ.

I know, I'm being spiteful and fed up but you would be too if you had the chance to step into my shoes and experience the world from my point of view.

Ranting aside, I can succinctly say that I'm not really drawn in by any games this year. I'm too occupied with more important things - like paying off loans, paying rent, buying snacks from the local grocery during the periods of time when I'm not jerking off to Cult of Personality on Hard difficulty - to give much thought to video games. Plus, I still don't have an Xbox 360 and I just bought my first PS2 last year.

Spore
Warhammer
Brutal Legend

Some others like Mercs 2 I might check out, but those are the three I care about. And If I purchase a DS, then maybe more.

Portal 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 3
Left 4 Dead (super excited for this one)
Starcraft 2
Diablo 3
Dead Space
Fallout 3
Star Wars: Force Unleashed
Resident Evil 5
Brutal Legends
Gears of War 2
Spore (I really hope it'll be good and not just a super-hyped disappointment)

Too Human, Fable 2 and Borderlands are all iffies.
Too Human looks like it might just end up being another Hack-N'-Slash
Fable 2 might suffer from Peter Molyneux promising us the world and only giving us half of England, only a little bit prettier and with a little bit more to do (I really have hopes this one will be better)
And Borderlands sounds really awesome on paper, but it is defiantly one of those games with so much stuff that you could just get boggled down with it all and end up not really having much fun.

Alright...my list is a little different.

First and foremost is Soul Calibur IV. Skilled fighting games for the bloody win.

Next is Mirror's Edge for the 360, basically a first person urban platformer that looks FREAKING AWESOME!

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and bolts...don't laugh...I love those games.

Halo Wars: RTS for 360 that might not suck? God I hope so.

and finally: Fable 2...bought the Lost Chapters the other day and I'm enjoying it immensely.

Having seen some new screen shots over at Eurogamer this morning I'm hoping the new Prince of Persia plays as well as it looks.

Could very well be the best looking video game ever made.

i cant wait for Borderlands, it sounds so amazing on paper.

So did a lot of things. Dont set you sights to high just yet, wait until actual gameplay footage comes out.

Exactly, it sounds too good to be true, im afraid it will end up too much like Battlecruiser 3000, it was hyped to be the greatest game ever, then id got a hold of it and murdered it.

Whats the deal with that? Is it preferrable to "Stalin is a Martian", also known as Destroy All Humans 2?

Mirror's Edge looks interesting, different in any case.

Gears of War 2 looks to be a fun continuation of the series with a lot of attention paid to where the first had problems... though I'll probably still be giving the multiplayer a miss unless it's a drastic change from the first one. It's just not my thing.

My Halo fanboism will be fed by Halo Wars this year (I'm also interested in seeing how Ensemble adapted the RTS to the 360's controller) and the Alan Parsons Peter Jackson project after that. Plus whatever Bungie's brewing... though I truly hope that their next project is Something New.

I have this nagging feeling I'm forgetting a biggie, but time pressure means I have to be hitting "post" now.

I have to say Gears 2 is the only one I'm really looking forward to and a lot of that excitement is because of the immense fun I'm having in co-op campaign with my Girlfriend in Gears ^_^

Endwar also looks promising. I could never play strategy games on consoles, the lack of a mouse always killed it for me, so I'm looking forward to see how this new control system will work out.

Resi fan, so definately RE5 too. And The Force Unleashed too as I've been hoping for another good Star Wars game for a while now.
