I was recently overcome with a burning desire to know what everyone's favorite crosshair color is.

I like red. After all, crosshairs are for killing things...

I like the zoom reticle in HL2.

But I've always bee a sucker for most kinds of Sniper Crosshairs, (thus, my color=black)
Especially the SVD, or the Mil-Dot.

I prefer iron sites. if snipping I like the one which is like a cross with slashes for measurement on them. then with a little circle with a dot in it where the two lines meet.

I like just good old white but maybe the centre dot turns red when you have a headshot.

I usually use a bright green, or boring old white.

Generally i use generic colours are according to the game.

For counterstrike I use blue, because it stands out the best on dust maps and i only play De_Dust2, but my favourite cross hair of all time is the Red dot on Call Of Duty. Something about it makes me think "KILL!!!!!!11111ononeeoneoneeleven".

I prefer realistic kinds like iron sights, sniper scopes, or red dots, but my favorite are the EOTech holographic sights in CoD 4.

If they are just standard cross hairs on the HUD like in most shooters I choose whatever color stands out most, but favor bright red.

The red dot of death. Pinpoint accuracy for the win!

Generally, my crosshair is left as default. One would assume the developers know what terrain, monsters, and lighting you will encounter in the game, and that through their extensive testing have chosen the default color to be the one they found worked best in the majority of situations, and so I rarely argue with their wisdom.

The few times I change it, it depends on the crosshair style. Laser Sights (single dot) get red, "+" crosshairs are yellow, chopped circle crosshairs green, and funky unique styles get neon blue.

I like green, it usually means I'm shooting an irritating friendly NPC.

It's always got to be a black X.

Otherwise you can't see it for all the sodding bloom.
I also like it that way because it reminds me of Pirates. X marks the spot, oh yes, yes it does indeed...

Fluorescent pink. You will always know where it is.

I mean, how many games have vibrantly pink levels or backgrounds? With a darker crosshair it seems easier to lose it in the shadows. This only really applies to games that need minute adjustments to aim.

normally a yellow or pink, as it stands out well from everything (except sand if yellow)

As long as you can differentiate between cross hair and flesh then all is good...

Otherwise, green.

Color? Not design?
I'd have to say... red or yellow.

I like the kind that changes colors. Green if it's a good guy, red if it's a bad guy, white if you want to waste ammo. Best example would be either one of the Star Trek Elite Force games. It changes color and you can choose which cross-hair you want.

i like red because it mentally promotes rage. i tried green but too many games turn it green automatically when i aim at a friendly. i'm subcontiously forced to stop shooting or at least second-guess my shot. :(

Nothing beats laser sights, especially the blue ones (eg. snipers in hl2).

I love the EOTech holographic sights in COD4. It's a bummer you can't get them in COD4.

In more conventional games, I'm a sucker for the sniper sights.

Color won't really matter to me as long as it doesn't either blend in with the environment, or isn't so damn big and colorful that it blocks my shots - pretty much doing exactly the opposite of what it was designed for (the original Day of Defeat had this problem, had to get a mod to get rid of that stupid thing).

I guess I'll take a Red or Green crosshair. Now if we want to get extremely specific about what types of sight's and scopes I like to use then I'll get back to you on that with a nice long list.

Light blue, because most games are in pitch black now, kinda like the bad company crosshair.

Here's a link to all the crosshairs in Halo 2. What I think of them, is that theres too much thick visual noise that doesn't do anything that distracts from the actual target. That's why I like the reticle in Half Life 2. 5 Dots and a yella bounding ring is all I need.

Ah, the gorgeous screen consuming green ring of a zoomed sniper... the reticule being your opponents head...
