Final Fantasy XI. Even though I don't really "play" it a lot, I'm pretty much always logged in chatting with friends and linkshell(guild) members. And since there's a new form of leveling that doesn't involve sitting around waiting for a party invite for 2 hours, then building said party for another hour, and then partying for an hour, I can play it a lot more safely now. Like, now I can just log in, get some good experience points, and then log out whenever I want or have to.

Video games, video games, video games, games, GAMES! The ones that really sucked me out of my social life were: GTA San Andreas, Kingdom Hearts 1-2 (even now I have an urge to play 'em!), Orange Box (any sane person would be addicted to that!), Oblivion (yay...), Fable TCL and more or less every FF game I've played (not many :P). Kinda makes me wonder why the LONG, GOOD and addictive games are becoming extinct... or maybe I'm not that blessed because I refuse to spend 10000000 euros to buy a current gen console... feh!

PS:

Solo508:
It made me miss a lot of important stuff like making new friends ect :(.

That's one of the worst things that Video games may do to you, if you're not careful! For me it was about 2 years before I realized this...

as for me it was oblivion which i had gotten during winter vacation and spent all my spare time playing for about 2 weeks straight.

Yup me too. Only two games that have had me so incredibly immersed in them that I completed them in a ludicrous amount of time have been Oblivion and GTA IV. Just because both had pretty good stories and I was given the chance to really get into the game.

Vice City, San Andreas and GTAIV (although that's a work in progress), and Jedi Academy for a good while. Not sure why now really...

And Garry's Mod, before the famous Garry went one update to far and almost crippled my game >:{(

gta: san andreas (unfortunately coincided with my GSCE's)
timesplitters 2
age of empires 2(+conquerors)
shogun total war

good times.
extremely long periods of good times. with very few breaks. which will probably have caused eye-strain, RSI and back problems in later life.

My younger years were lost completely to the original Zelda and FF games on my nintendo.

College was lost to Quake on my PC and Mario Cart on my N64... nobody and I mean nobody EVER beat my lap times on any board... I'm serious... ever.

Grad school actually required some attention unfortunately but I remember several lengthy Halo sessions at my friends house that turned into weekend long binges.

Right now its a mix of COD4 all nighters abusing snotty kids which was only recently slowed down by a massive dose of MGS4 that has persisted since its release. Now that game is crazy addictive...

Makai Kingdom, Disgaea, Disgaea 2, and Phantom Brave, well over 150 hours clocked on each one. Damn those games. Other than that, WoW and FFXI had their grip on me for some time. I also played the original Bionic Commando for days and days strait, always loved the end when you blew up Hit...er, uhm...Master D.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow Of Chernobyl took over my life for a while.

Though, interestingly, it gave a bit back - I didn't know a great deal about the Chernobyl disaster to start with, so I did a bit of research while I was starting up playing it. A few months later and I'm doing a physics research paper, so I thought I might as well use the research and interest I'd gained from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Ended up getting 95% \o/

MGS4 when I got it, played it non-stop for a week. Unfortunately i beat it :'(

But overall, every single Ratchet and Clank game, I just cannot put the controller down when I play those games and as a result the games always end too soon for me.

Oblivion, took over more than a month of my life, I got all achievements, then spent like $30 to get all of the DLC and got the other 250 points.

Baldur's Gate series on the PC. When I finally started to pull away and get on with life, I found the mod community and was sucked back in.

When Blockbuster used to rent game systems they started renting a dreamcast for $25, one month before the actual release of the system, I rented it only to play Sonic Adventure and I beat before it came out. Then got a dreamcast and beat it again XD.

Same thing happened to me, but when Sonic Adventure 2 came out, chao raising invaded my thoughts for 4 years. Cute little soul-suckers -_-
Other notable games were the Myst series, Runescape, Orange box, Civ 4, and bioshock.

The most recent one of mine is GTA 4, or at least it would be if my brother hadn't stolen the 360, the one that had me the longest was Guitar Hero 3, I was completely addicted. In fact no, neither of those compare to how long I've been playing Pokemon, I picked up Pokemon Silver and went on to play and beat ALL of the games, except the spin-offs like puzzle league. I was nuts.

Diablo 2: Lord Of Destruction is destroying my social life at the moment. Good thing the first realistic release date of Diablo 3 is in the next decade at best.

I once wasted an entire summer on the original Grand Theft Auto. VC and SA consumed some as well. But the most time got lost on the Civilization series and Grand Prix II. It still happens.

Morrowind did, for a long time. I only took a short break to play Viewtiful Joe at one point, then after beating that game on the highest difficulty, I just had to go back to Vvardenfell again.

Fable on the Xbox sucked me in for about a month, then oblivion on the 360 sucked me in for another, and at the moment Im so addicted to dead Rising and GTA IV I could consider them alternate lives.
