I had a PS2, then got an XBox later about the time Halo 2 came out. This gen I bought a 360 in 2006 (after spending two years being very excited about the PS3 then ultimately deciding the 360 was the better option), and picked up a Wii at launch. I'm yet to buy a PS3 though my fiancee wants to; sometimes when we go out shopping she considers it, so I challenge her to go find five titles for the PS3 worth buying that we can't buy for the 360. She always comes back empty-handed.

Don't want to insult your fiancee and since text is a bad way to communicate you could either read this as an insult or a joke, but she needs to look harder >_> -and hell buying a system for 5 games is a bad idea, especially since the system has a bunch of other uses.
Maybe she'll find some next yer, the lineup looks good.
DeadlyYellow: I've always stuck with Sony and the Playstation, under the belief I could just kick over my pc tower draw an x on it and call it an X-box. Rather apt considering a lot of the x-box games have been or are going to be ported to the PC.
The only thing I'm really missing is a bunch of prepubescent kids calling me a fag.
Now for my favorite joke.
How do you know if a game will come out on the PC? It's been released on the 360! XD! I myself have stuck with sony throughout the years.

Hell I have five right here.

If I may be rude enough to de-rail the thread for a sec, I'd just like to ask why people seem so happy to make lists of games for the PS3. If we wanted, we could research what games are out for the PS3, and thus make an informed decision. Aries, have you ever considered that Kermi's fiancee doesn't like Killzone 2, God of War 3 or Ratchet and Clank?
Sorry, but it irks me whenever someone says something along the lines of "don't make me bring out the list!".

Motorstorm 2. Little Big PLanet.Grand Turismo 5. I gave a list spanning all genres. I got the impression he was implying the PS3 lacks Diversity beyond Action games.
I grew up with a Playstation because it was so easily chipped, and I grew up in a pirating culture (I'm from coloured South Africa). In England, even though I asked (read: begged) for a Gamecube, my parents bought a PS2 because of it's DVD drive, so I stuck to Playstation out of tradition I suppose. Nearly all my friends have the luxury of owning or having owned all 3 consoles- it seems savage fanboyism isn't really an issue in South East London.
I went from PS2 and GC to 360 and Wii. I saw no reason to get a PS3 because the one game I wanted for it (FFXIII) is now on the 360 and I didn't get the original X-box because it looked really ugly.
No, had all three last time, have all three this time. I've had every major console since the original Playstation barring the Saturn, which was already dead by the time I came back in from the PC playing cold.
nilcypher: I had all of the consoles from the previous generation, and once the PS3 gets a little cheaper, I'll all of them from this generation as well.
This is me. Who's brand loyal these days? The console you go for should be based on how many of the exclusives you want. That said, I was a total nintendo fanboy when I was younger. Ah, I was such an idiot...
In any case, this poll needs a "I'm a jammy bastard who can afford them all" option.
Isaac Dodgson: I'm doing a bit of a spiral
PSX->GCN->Xbox360
if the pattern continues i should be going back to sony it would seem.
Wait, you had a PSX? I didn't know those were ever released outside of Japan. Reminds me of the time my brother imported one of those silver gamecubes that played DVDs.

I think he means a Playstation, which people seem to call 'PSX', unless you're being sarcastic in which case PSX means the actual PSX.

Not at all, but I'll forgive you for thinking that. The fact is, she's as much of a gamer as I am - frankly I think she's overtaken me because I'm starting to slip into casual gamer retirement while she's pwning n00bs (as it were) in Halo 3. Between the both of us, there are not five titles we want to buy a PS3 for... yet... and I consider this the threshold at which the attach rate becomes attractive. Yes, there are plenty of decent looking games, but nothing that particularly interests me. We are not interested in Resistance or Killzone 2. Was interested in MGS4 but despite it looking all kinds of awesome it really just isn't the kind of game I'd enjoy playing. Not interested in Uncharted. Never played a Ratchet and Clank game or god of War game despite having them pressed upon me by friends to try time and time again - though admittedly I'd never played a Devil May Cry game until I got DMC4, so I could start with God of War 3 if I had sufficient motivation to own a PS3 (nevertheless, this is not on my list of titles to buy a PS3 for). Not interested in the majority of racing games in existence. Not interested in Little Big Planet despite the amazing amount of appeal it seems to have to roughly 95% of the internet community. She hates RPGs and I was interested in FFXIII which I now no longer have to buy a PS3 for. I've spent the last two years looking forward to White Knight Story, but this brings the total of PS3 exclusives I am interested in to one. This is not a slight against the PS3 or its fanbase. I just have no use for one. Yes, there other uses for a PS3, but my 360 and PC can replicate most of them and I don't see the point in upgrading to Blu-ray movies at this time. Lastly, the lineup for the 360 alone this year is going to keep me occupied so I just don't need to buy another console (whether it has games I want to play or not).

OMD thats just the same with me. The ps3 just doesnt have games that i want. Also theres the fact that many of the games mentions are single player. which isnt good for me since i have a bro lol. I can play both halo and gears of war co-op with him on 360.
i've got a bit of a history. never really got involved with the sega/nintendo war, having had a master system and a snes. then i had a sega saturn, the a nintendo 64, then a sega dreamcast, then an xbox with a gamecube on the side, and now my primary console is a 360. Will probably get a Wii at some point Funny to think i havent had a single sony ever! most people think thats odd. has anyone else never had one?
Considering a PS2, as they're dirt cheap and it has MGS3 :)
ihad an original xbox, but got a ps2 wen mgs3 came out;then my xbox became a big black paper wheight. I got a Ps3 this gen, and wouldnt consider any of the ohters cos theyre all shite
i have the 360 and the PS3
its good times for all.
