I will defiantly consider renting this game, maybe even buying it. It doesn't really matter, though. I'll be buying Fallout 3 and Dead Space before I buy or rent this game. By the way, "Barbie Horse Adventures." That title alone should send you running for the hills in fear. |

Unless you're the sort of person who likes Barbie and ponies. It explains everything you need to know about the game in three little words and will sell the game quite well to its target demographic which is not us. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 9 Joined: 29 Dec 2007 | Is the "4" another misjudged attempt to sell this game to the mainstream I wonder... but its not a hugely bad name though. I think MAG (massive action game) is the current winner of the retarded name awards at the moment, have they never heard of this thing called "ímagination" at sony? |
Press Junketeer Posts: 361 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 | So this 'imagination' thing lead the 'imaginative' creators of Ico to simply name the game after it's main character? You can't judge a book by it's cover. |

Of course it was beta. The game's not out until November. I had the opportunity to play the most recent build on PC a few days ago and I thought it was fantastic (and fantastic looking). |

OMFG N1ghtNinja you need an I not a 1 - WORST SN EVER!!!
I dunno I think it's just fine for an "in the works" title, it's kinda like "Snakes on a Plane" - you read the title and you know what you're in for. Also, Fat Princess > All |

1. It is a physics equation, but outside radiation I've rarely seen it used in physics...then again, I'm not a physician. I've always seen it used for the half life of chemicals etc. Thanks for the irrational hostility though, its appreciated, really shows you actually read what I said.
As I said, I spoke from personal experience. Seriously, what the hell is your problem? My initial comment was that it doesn't matter as the game is looking brilliant - where's all this random hostility coming from? So your just assuming that because its valve it will be awesome? Or that it will be half life with zombies? If anything thats a bad thing. That stupid zombie village level in half life two was the worst one (not that any of them were great, just a series of generic firefights with the odd see saw puzzle thrown in) Just out of interest how do valve treat the console community, i hadnt heard of anything like that, or did you mean the valve community ie its fans? Cuz were always getting shit of them.. |

Paperboy Posts: 12 Joined: 16 Jul 2008 | Valve and Blizzard are easily two of the best video game companies around, but yes, neither of them are huge on the console front. I've been so excited for this game since I first heard of it, and that hasn't even remotely faded away. On that note, the game name isn't that bad, and in fact it's going to catch people's attention, someone is going to see it and wonder why is it called that, and they may look at the game and buy it. However no one who is going to buy it, wouldn't buy it just because there is a 4 in the name. |

Yeah...you really haven't seen the masses of gameplay trailers, interviews, concepts etc. have you? It is not Half Life with zombies, look it up, stop being so biased for no reason. Pretty much everything other than the 'plot' is known about the game now, and it looks amazing. Valve value the console community as customers, but not as people - they rarely patch the console versions at all; TF2 on PC has had many new content releases, of which the 360 has recieved none. Did anyone else facepalm and/or snigger when that got announced? Then they decided to use it as the chorus to the theme tune. Finally, to top it all off, it got re-released as Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. I'm pretty sure that subsistence is a type of farming - we learnt about it in geography in high school. I suppose you could argue it's appropriate because snake harvests real snakes and goats and crocodiles and poisonous mushrooms, but surely they could have thought of a cooler subtitle, like Sons of Liberty, or Guns of the Patriots. /rant |

It was named Snake eater because of Operation Snake Eater you twat. Also, try researching shit before you post boneheaded remarks like that, because if you actually researched the word Subsistence, you'd know it is the state of existing, and the reason Kojima chose it is because in Metal Gear Solid 3, the element is survival, existence. Hence "Subsistence" "Can you subsist?". |

I don't think Valve is totally at blame for this, MS and xboxlive don't seem to allow frequent updates to games and also want to put a price on them. This is the complete opposite to Valve so i think this is very conflicting. I think its a little unfair to say they don't see gamers as people. |

Subsistence means "enough of a substance to survive," roughly. I concur with whomever said that "Massive Action Game" is the worst game title. Creativity is such scarce reasource. |

Is that its real name?! I thought that was the project name or something like how fable was called project ego. If in all seriousness that is its real name then this topic is wrong. |

At least Valve has a fairly consistent track record, not to mention a general sense of humility. I'm prone to agree with this thread as a waste of forum space, but it seems to have generated quite a large amount of traffic. Concerning the actual naming of Left 4 Dead, I think it's fairly clever and incredibly informative about the nature of the gameplay. An intentionally designed, four player zombie survival game sounds sweet, and the clever name sticks into the readers mind long enough to give it a second thought. If it were truly a bad *name*, you wouldn't remember it at all. Seems to me that this thread has become more about bad *games*.
I don't know why you should get jumped on for having an opinion. I thought it looked somewhat mediocre as well, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't stoked for it. The team working on the title was responsible for one of the largest chunks in online shooter history, so they have to have at least a vague idea of what they are doing. I'm also willing to let actual gameplay dictate my opinions. Someone looking at HL2 gameplay could probably make a similar claim about it's style... give it a whirl. It may be fanboyish, but Valve has proven themselves in the past, I see no reason to start doubting at this point. |

Paperboy Posts: 12 Joined: 29 May 2008 | Bleh. I will fully support anything that goes against mainstream useage of what effectively is internet slang. Like 'Tru Calling'. Seriously, was mangling the English language worth making such an awful pun? Also I never played, watched or read anything about Left 4 Dead, but since this thread is about the name I though it'd be OK if I posted. EDIT: Oh, somewhat related: http://norefuge.net/vgng/vgng.html |

It's a scientific formulation used in biology, chemistry and physics, mainly regarding radiation but also bacteria etc. They all effect each other, chem, bio and phys. It's silly to say the term 'half-life' is anything. And I think the original poster about HL was saying that the game isn't about any substance losing more alpha particles as time goes on, but it doesn't get any stick. |
