Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 711 Joined: 16 Apr 2008 | I agree that the Nintendo-made games such as Mario are definitely the best in the series, but Rare is very close behind them. Nintendo owns Donkey Kong, but Rare supported the games, meaning we won't see anything like the old ones for the Wii or any other Nintendo console unless Rare comes back. Perfect Dark 64 is an awesome game. And how could you not like any of the other games listed? Actually, I don't need you to answer that last question "Shatner Shaman". |

Captain I detect some insult on this M class quote. I did not like Battletoads,Jet force, or blast corps so what? Rare still was the second best dev (after Nintendo of course) in the N64 era. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 97 Joined: 11 Mar 2008 | Rare were so good and so consistent with their creations on the 64, i hate to say that i think they had their hayday though, even if they did get back with nintendo, the original developers that worked with them in the 64 days are long gone i think. I'm crossing my fingers for the new Banjo-Kazooie game, one of my all time fave platformers, i still bust out my 64 once or twice a year to play Banjo-kazooie//Tooie =] |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 6487 Joined: 30 Jan 2008 | I wouldn't get your hopes up. They've abandonded most of the new moves they made in Banjo Tooie, and replaced it with vehicle building. As a fan of the originals, i do not see this change as a good thing. |

Don't play it and complain on how much it sucks on teh interwebz. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 97 Joined: 11 Mar 2008 | Yeah i saw the trailer of gameplay for it, it looks like it has potential... but in a different way. |

Would you listen to an Xbox 360 owner who was a fan of the originals? My cousin has seen the same stuff I have, and he says it looks like it'll be shit. |

I listened to my self and I said it looked like a great game I can play with the family like Viva Pinata. |

Wrong. The thing is single player, and online racing. This is not something that your family will be able to participate in (which wouldn't have flown with Nintendo). |

What no split screen? Aw thats... eugh. Well I'll still get it because there isn't many non arcade games kids can play but damn. |

Yeah what's the deal with that direct corellation of consoles getting better and split screen modes phasing out? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 6487 Joined: 30 Jan 2008 | They could have easily made co-op, just by keeping the damn split pads. However, in keeping with the "no local multiplayer" rule of Microsoft games (and a few Sony games - I'm looking at you, Motostorm), they edited it out. Edit : Here's why (most) games don't have split screen anymore (Resistance, once again, proves itself to be a rebel with Split screen co-op and multiplayer. So did Haze, actually) http://www.cracked.com/article_16196_7-commandments-all-video-games-should-obey.html |

Never heard of Halo? splitscreen campaign,splitscreen multiplayer,online splitscreen. EDIT: Don't forget 360 UT3. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 6487 Joined: 30 Jan 2008 |
Did I say all Microsoft games? There are exceptions on both sides - the Ps3 also has Singstar and Buzz!. And Motorstorm Pacific Rift will have 4 player Split Screen. Then theres Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. |

Well thats a pretty big exception considering its THE xbox game. A lot of games published by MS are splitscreen (Viva Pinata,Forza,PGR,Perfect Dark Zero,Halo,Gears) thats a pretty loose rule. |

It's not so much an insult as it is a jab at the fact that you play WoW. It's a stereotype that I created about WoW players that they don't like any good games. Though, I know it's about as true as the whole stereotype about Canadians saying "aboot" instead of "about". You didn't like Battletoads, JFG, or Blast Corps? You also say that you don't like Perfect Dark 64 and that you don't have much to say about Banjo Kazooie. How can you say that it's your second favourite development team? lol |

To part 1 I hate Blizzard and ALL of its games most of all WoW I just really found the commercial extremely funny. (I played WoW for 30 min at my Warcracked friends house and all I did was dance naked for money.) To part 2 Goldeneye and donkey kong |

You make the assumption that since the Rare games for the N64 were great, if they made games for the Wii they would also be good. I disagree. Is technology progresses, the company is going to try to stretch the limits of its creation. Sure it may have a rep from higher-up telling what the game should have in it, but it is still the responsibility of the game company to work with it and develop it. Sure, the execution may not be what was expected, but it's extremely rare(no pun intended) for every game from a developer company to be absolute gold. |

Well, they did do Grabbed By The Ghoulies, which was a genuinely atrocious game. But so was Starfox Adventures, which was a Rare game on the Gamecube. And DKC64 was a mediocre game at best. So I'd argue that Rare's game quality hasn't got much to do with Nintendo, really. You might not like Kameo or Viva Piņata, but that doesn't stop them from being solid and well made games. |

Good point Woe I forgot about Star Fox Adventures. |

And remains looser on the Ps3. The only game I can think of that didn't allow Offline Multiplayer where appropriate is Motorstorm (adding split screen versus to a stealth game is just plain retarded). |

Why? |

To part 1 In that case, then I stand by my stereotype as being entirely true. Also, I like you as a human being and semi-anonymous internet user a whole lot more already. To part 2 Interesting. I have no further questions. Your witness. |

Because its stealth. If the person sitting next to you were to shift their gaze 5 degrees to the left, they would see that you're waiting in a barrel beside a dumpster in an alley, and take advantage of this. |

You could have playlists that set guests on your own team (is MGO only free for all?). |

No, there are other aspects to it (Team capture the base, Team Capture the Duck, Team Deathmatch, Team Snake Eater, Team Capture the Duck while invisible and wearing said duck on your head - Yes, all of these are real, even if the Capture the Duck isn't technically called that) , but allowing two-player in online is a faulted concept, since you play offline to play solely with your friends. |

You don't know any friends that live near you and far away? You don't find it fun to kick ass with against others with someone beside on the couch?

Goddamn Indigo, you really love you some of your resistance don't you? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2714 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | Why did the PS3 get involved with this? I think Nintendo will buy back Rare if the New Banjo games goes badly. Microsoft will want to sell and Nintendo has the money. |

They still have Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise. |

Is it just me, or has Rare gone to the shits since it went to Microsoft? I'm sure even 360 owners agree that they produced some of the most amazing games when they were with the N64, and that a lot of their games for the 360 are pretty cruddy. Look at Perfect Dark 64 and Perfect Dark Zero for the prime example.
Now that Banjo Kazooie is coming out soon, I can't help but feel a bit afraid that they're going to screw up that game too. I remember it being one of my favourite games for the N64 back in the day, and now they're making it for the 360, which is hardly Rareware-oriented.
And think about it, if Rare went back with Nintendo, or made itself open to all three, we would see all of their great games on the Wii's console like Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie, Battletoads, Jet Force Gemini, Conker, Blast Corps, Donkey Kong, among others. Were those not some of the best games for Nintendo? I say Rare should come back and make Nintendo even better.
I realize that this post won't make any influence in reality, but I'd love to hear some feedback and just see if anyone actually agrees with me or not.
EDIT: Actually, aside from PD:Zero, I don't really know of any other games that really sucked. But I'm kinda projecting from that seeing as a really kickass company made a sequel to a really kickass game that sucked.
