Its because my posts are short n sweet. Gamespot is a cesspool with "intellectual fanboys" (darkside66) and retards (Guts5). |

Metroid Prime Corruption, No More Heroes and Twilight Princess come to mind (Twilight Princess - the game that coined the phrase, "Its all fun and game until the luminous hand pulls you into the solid mass of shadow and changes you into a wolf") |

The Wii has mastered the idea of shitty games with clever gimmicks to sucker people into buying out of a phobia that they wasted money on a $250 night light in their front room. The Xbox 360 on the other hand sells more games than consoles. Rare wants to sell games. Mission Accomplished. |

If your cousin says it it must be true! Damn, I like your logic. Seriously, tough, Rare are still making good games (Viva Pinata, anyone?) and they did make bad games while they were with Nintendo. |

I'm pretty sure they all sell more games than consoles, man. |

I don't really want to argue, but, every month the Wii sells 600,000+ consoles and their highest game sold normally barely breaches the 100,000 mark with a few exceptions for Nintendo staple series. I could be wrong but I doubt it. |

Somehow I doubt that. Wii Fit at least I would guess would have shipped a few hundred thousand in a week. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 711 Joined: 16 Apr 2008 | With exception of the Gamecube, Nintendo pretty much kicked everyone else's ass in terms of the console wars for everything. Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nindendo DS, and now even the Wii. I could see why Rare would have left Nintendo in the previous generation, but I think they should come back now. |

Agreed. It's not that Rare are producing rubbish games, far from it. It's just they aren't producing the near perfect gaming experiences they used to. The current state of Rare certainly isn't problem, it's just a little bit of a shame. |

Incorrect, Microsoft simply offered Rare a better deal than Nintendo were prepared to offer and they took it. Shame on you Nintendo. |

The true tragedy was that they sold it to make some cash to prodcue the Gamecube. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 85 Joined: 29 Jun 2008 | The revamped conker doesn't really count as a new Rare title since it's little more than a touch-up job and some new lines here and there. I am a big fan of Viva Pinata, though I can't help but feel that it may fall pray to "Pokemon Syndrome" and instead of adding new gameplay features, just carry on making new creatures instead. DK64, Banjo, Get Force Gemini i grew up with those games (okay, i never grew up but you get the point)! Such magic! Why did Rareware turn into shit after going to Microsoft, they should go back to Nintendo, for the good of gaming! |
Press Junketeer Posts: 390 Joined: 4 May 2008 | I loved the old Banjo games, and I own a 360. If Rare pull it off, Nuts and Bolts could be the dogs nuts... and bolts Plus, considering the 360 was untrodden at that point, I think Perfect Dark Zero was alright. Nice graphics and certainly complelling enough to finish it. Was never a huge fan of the original, but hey, I suppose thats personal taste. I would say Banjo was better than Mario 64, but then again, Banjo wouldn't have existed without SM64. The little red long-john wearing tit did us a favour there. Another thing I will say for Rare is that they haven't milked their characters. They only use them again when the time is right. |

I agree somewhat. The levels of Banjo Kazooie seemed a lot more refined and creative than Super Mario 64 (even if some of the later levels were real outside-the-box stuff - the Clock level that had to be stopped by backflips, the two copies iof hthhe same level, one while tiny and one whil giant). That said, it still suffered because of a fucking impossible final boss. |
Paperboy Posts: 39 Joined: 28 Apr 2008 | To be honest, I don't remember many of Rare's titles, but the one that I'll never forget is GoldenEye. As a teenager, staying up 'til 4am with three buddies, throwing Remote Mines at each other and planting them in little traps all over the Facility level in DeathMatch... Oh, those were the days. |
King of the Yetis Posts: 1958 Joined: 15 Jul 2008 | Rare's current lineup can't compete against stuff like goldeneye because of the giant rose tinted glasses that are nostalgia. |
Paperboy Posts: 18 Joined: 21 Jul 2008 | I still remember the sweet days of Donkey Kong 64. And I'll never forget them. I do agree, they should go back with Nintendo. Now. |

Dude, theres a reason why its universally called one of the best FPS's ever, and it isn't Nostalgia. Hell, I never owned a copy, and I still felt that it was enormously fun to turn on the paintabll and bighead cheats on a friends copy at their place, start in the cavern level, and just blast them away. |

Don't get me wrong. It's a fantastic and very influential game. But even if Rare pulled off a shooter that was every bit as good as goldeneye if not better it still wouldn't be recognized as such. |

Because it wouldn't be as groundbreaking now would it? If Rockstar made a new GTA tht was on the same scale as Vice City, they wouldn't recieve as much praise. |

I'll agree with this statement, kinda, but imagine if they just remade EXACTLY the same game, just adding ragdoll, and better graphics with normal mapping, blah blah blah. Chances are its sales would be ridiculous as all hell. But if it had a different title, or a slightly different set of maps (single or multi-player), it wouldn't sell anywhere near as much. |

The N64 is a hugely overrated console. Despite the fact that it was the most powerful console of the time, all of its good games could be counted with one hand (Mario 64, Zelda OoT & MM, Goldeneye and Banjos) compared to the dozens upon dozens of highly acclaimed games that were on the PS1 (Final Fantasies, Tekkens, Soul Edge, MGS to name a few). Heck, a lot of the games on the N64 even looked worse than the offerings of the PS1 due to stuff being really blocky and one-colored. It's actually only this generation that Nintendo finally realized they need to get a grip and try something new since all they'd been doing is rehashing the same ol' stuff since the SNES. That aside, I thought Nintendo gladly sold Rare to Microsoft because they hadn't been producing anything worthwhile for an entire generation. They've been getting their groove back slowly, though, and I'm cautiously optimistic about Banjo 3. Viva Piņata was a good, solid game and I did play through Kameo twice so that's a worthwhile play too (although it didn't quite deliver on everything it promised, I admit). |

I think you have it the other way around. You're saying the N64 was more powerful than the PSX and had less fun games. However, it's the exact opposite way around. The PSX, with games on a disc, were far superior in technology to the N64. However, everyone who's ever owned an N64 either still pulls it out from time to time to play some of their old games, or regrets to no end to selling it. Also, if you think the Wii is any different in terms of games than their other systems, you've got it all wrong. The Wii's doing the same re-hashing as every other one of their systems so far. But that seems to work seeing as it's kicking the other two systems' asses in sales. |

Um I think he meant the hardware not format. PS1 I own a N64 but I don't pull it out I use emulators. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 711 Joined: 16 Apr 2008 | At any rate, the fact that the PSX uses CD's pretty much makes it ten times stronger no matter what. You can't deny its graphic and overall game "quality". Especially near the end of its time. |

Only if you don't acknowledge Wii Sports, Wii Play and Wii * as games. Their core games have mostly been old games with new coating, I admit.
First of all, backwards compatibility. Just about anything that has the name "Playstation" on it can run PS1 games. It makes sense not to pull it out if you don't exactly need to do so. Second of all, all the rest of the hardware on the PS1 is inferior to the N64. This is seen by the lack of bilinear filtering that graphically makes everything that's 3D look...well, horrendous. And third, well...the problem with the N64 was that outside of its first and second party games, it just didn't have anything going for it. You had the old juggernauts, you had Banjo, you had Goldeneye...then you have a worse scifi version of Goldeneye called Perfect Dark that was barely playable thanks to the dipping framerate. And what then? The other camp had Wipeout, it had MGS, it had Syphon Filter, Tekken, Soul Edge, GTA and a whole boatload of titles people hadn't seen before. Even the Saturn had a superior library with new titles with Daytona USA, Panzer Dragoons, NightS and a vastly superior version of SOTN. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 395 Joined: 15 Jul 2008 | Few things: N64, as a previous owner, had a two hands worth of solid titles, the rest crap. I sold it AND I have no remorse, longings, pining, or feeling of loss and/or regret. It was craptastic in terms of bad graphics, muddiness, and jaggies. Bad 2D is ok, Bad 3D is down right horrible. The PSone is far more memorable because it had great RPGs that really out shown much of the SNES catelog, save two IMO: Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger. Rare can stay with MS. Nintendo is the one being a bunch... grr. Not allowing Goldeneye for XBLA and Wii Ware because everyone would buy the XBLA for the online, better controller for FPS, better graphics, achievements and basically just a better experience. If I had an N64, it would stay in the closet because: A) all the Thumb sticks would be wobbly/broken shoddy messes B) FPS with the C-Pad? *barf* Viva Pinata Kicks Ass, and the new Banjo looks like goooood fun! And Finally one defense for the Wii: EVERYONE saying there is nothing to play needs to stop looking over Boom Blox and go out and rent and/or purchase this title. If you would stop complaining about the crap games and give the good ones an actual shot/purchase instead of the stupid crap, then you would have more unique experiences. Boom Blox is AMAZING. PLAY IT! |

However, the N64 had very low texture memory, rendering all textures a hideous blurry margerine smeared mess. The best looking PS1 games, things like Chrono Cross, look better than N64 games for that reason primarily. |
Heresy! We must repent to THE FLAG!
