So everyone is raving about these fantastic awesome super fabulous games like Gears of War, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and what have you. But the best aspect of 90% of the best games today is "The great multiplayer," which is, of course, usually experienced over Live (Or the PSN network and the Wii's thing). Well, that's great and all, but how am I supposed to enjoy a game if I can't play the best part of it? It really kind of ticks me off that developers now focus more on the multiplayer than they do the single player. Even upcoming games like Fable 2 focus intensely on co-op. And while it still has a huge single-player campaign and I plan to buy it and enjoy it immensely, I still feel like I'm missing out on a chunk of it just because I can't afford to give Microsoft all my money. So I ask you, good people of the internet, where have all the good single-player games gone? Why do producers think every person who plays their games has friends to play it with? Are we moving into an age where you won't be able to play a game without having another person to play with you? When is this trend going to end?

I have to play at others to play online (woo dial-up)

Fable 2's co-op is just playing single player wiht another player there isn't "bonus stuff" your going to miss

You still have Fallout 3,FF13,and the casual games (Banko Koozie for example)to look forward to play by your self on your 360.

Do you live in the states? Theres a great service called gamefly that lets you rent games and stuff so you save money.

Also you make it seem like playing by yourself is bad..I much prefer playing games by myself then on live..

I too don't have Live, but I just play the game for what it is. Basically, it's a lot easier to borrow or rent the game, or buy games that have long single players. That's what I do. That, and I don't really mind a short campaign.

I personally think that online games with people can only be "fantastic" if it's a soldier on the other end, playing from Iraq; that is the only use i see in video games over the internet, to keep people in other countries entertained and not concentrated on the life that they are living.

Just a personal thought.

There's no bonus stuff, but I'm missing out on playing with my friends. There's also a difficulty curve when in co-op mode, I'm pretty sure.

Fallout 3 looks lame, I hate Final Fantasy, and I'm not a fan of "casual" games. (Although I'd hardly consider Banjo Kazooie a casual game...)

EDIT: Directed at Shatnershagjdjfd.

No, you obviously missed the point of my post. I like playing games by myself. But it's so hard nowadays to find a game that has a single-player campaign worth playing. Developers focus too much on the multiplayer and just completely shrug off those of us who play by ourselves.
Not so say I don't like multiplayer, but it's too expensive. Except on the Wii, but that's only games like Mario Kart and Brawl. And they screwed up Brawl's online. Badly.

There isn't a difficulty curve Peter Molyneux has stated he doesn't want to limit the player a Lv 50 can go kill all the Lv 1's monsters for him no problem.

How is Banjo Kazooie not casual with the E rating cartoon characters and simple platforming/vehicles.

You're just so ignorant that that doesn't even deserve an answer. Also I didn't even understand that first sentence.

If I can't afford a hard drive, a wireless router, and a gold account, what makes you think I can afford a PS3? >_>

Okay, it's starting to sound like I'm just complaining about being too poor. No, that's not it. I really want to know why developers think everyone wants to play with their friends. Or that they have friends to play with. Where have all the good single-player games gone?

Dead Space should be awesome, and there is no online. Also, Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War are amazing single player games. The multiplayer just enhances the gamming experience. And, it's cheaper than the price of one new 360 game (by $10) to get online for a year. But maybe I'm biased. I have live. But I can NEVER go back to not having live. Take the plunge.

Well the first 2 were easy and the third one is looks like its aimed at the younger audience and I doubt they want the kids throwing controllers.

Yeah, that's great. This isn't [entirely] about the money. It's about the multiplayer. I want games I can play by myself and have a good time with. Not ones I have to play with other people to enjoy.

EDIT: Dammit people, stop posting while I'm posting. >_>

I think the core of a game's appeal SHOULD be the single player campaign. I still think most games cater to single player enough, though.

That's exactly what I think every time I read one of your posts.

I know there are good single player games out there (And coming up), but the ratio of those to games that focus on multiplayer is just pathetic.

I'm guessing you consider a game like Halo multiplayer focused? Then its pathetic but there are not many Multiplayer only games.

Halo is multiplayer focused. How many people actually play it for the story? Five? I have the third installment, and I honestly have to say I only play the campaign because it's a substitute for online. I make stages with Forge and mess around on them by myself, knowing full well no one else is ever going to see them. It's actually pretty pathetic.

Not that many games are mutliplayer only (Cough TF2 cough), but most of them are so focused on it that the single player might as well not exist. Why can't I customize my guns in the campaign of CoD4 like I could if I played multiplayer? Half the reason I got the game was because I saw how good the customization was. But nope, that's only in multiplayer. Saying "You can have all these features, but only if you're playing against other people" is, hands down, the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Not to mention half the achievements for any/all games are done in multiplayer. Well, there goes my gamerscore! Not that it matters, because no one but me is ever going to see it, but.

Well, what I liked about Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is that you had pretty much the same level of customisability between single- and multi-player, with multi-player actually lacking in customazation because you can only carry one primary weapon, which makes sense.

No, but I still need like $230 for all the accessories and shit it takes to use it. And that's $230 over what I'm willing to spend. $180 for a 120GB hard drive? No thanks.

But like I said. This thread is more about the games than the prices.

Seriously you don't need all that space...And coudn't you just wire your 360 directly to your modem instead of going wireless? Saves some money...Also you don't need all that space. My 20 GB has done me well and I did download quite a bit. Just as time drags on you will have to do more mantience clearing and stuff. Your market history is saved and whatnot.

When the Xbox Dashboard gets updated as per the E3 demo, you'll be able to copy discs directly to the hard drive to improve load times, so yeah, I'd say you need the space. And people complained that they filled up the older 20gb ones with demos and videos too quickly. I'm glad of it.

Don't download videos onto it. And load times are not compelling. Damn you instant-gratifiers! Does loading take that long now-a-days? Hell the gaming industry has found ways of covering up loading and you still complain..

It does seem that a lot of games are focusing more on the multiplayer aspect, which is then detrimental to the single player. However, only games with an excellent single AND multiplayer will be described as truely great.

The thing with multiplayer is that's it's so unpredictable-one game you suck, the next you totally own, you get too see some hilariously bad noobs, and get into awesome duels with other players, and create spectacularly 'epic' moments. And there's something hugely more satisfying beating another human than a computer.

Few things...

No one is going to need a 120gb hard drive, not yet anyway, and not anytime soon. It's too much damn space, even with the new option to copy discs directly to your hard drive to approve load times. You don't have to do it, and if you're having trouble affording all the equipment anyway, then just settle for 20gb, or better yet wait a bit as M$oft is coming out with a 60gb version of the box, and I'm sure the hard drive will sell separately.

Go wired. Why not? I do, I got a bloody fifty foot Cat-5e cable running half way across my house, and though I get some shit about it every now and then, it's not that much of a hassle. It's cheaper and a hell of
