Seconded. First time I got a glimpse at how truly beautiful the ragdoll was was in a chase. |

Of course, how could i forget about Oblivion? Fallout 3 looks to have highly entertaining ragdoll as well, but that makes sense because its the same dev. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 378 Joined: 18 Jun 2008 | GTA IV does an amazing job of it. There's a ragdoll engine I saw online somewhere that was really impressive. The computer actually responded to being hit by trying to keep its balance rather than just flop and tumble. I think it's the one GTA IV uses, but I'm not 100% sure. My only issue with GTA IV physics is the lack of ability to sever limbs. You shoot someone in the face with a shotgun and their head is still intact. At least it's not like in F.E.A.R. where if you shoot someone with a shotgun in the right place they either get cut in half or explode. Which is admittedly awesome, but it's not very realistic. |

Seconded. I witnessed a pedestrian in GTAIV get nudged by a car; he buckled over the bonnet before straightening up, banging his fist on the bonnet in anger before walking off swearing. I could not believe my eyes. |

Nothing like killing an archer to have his body fall to the ground and everybody run screaming. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1180 Joined: 26 Mar 2008 | For me its Half Life 2, Company of Heroes and GTAIV. HL2 - So many games seem to get the look of physics wrong like Battlefield 2/2142 and Halo, Half Life 2 is one of the few that get the look and weight correct for me. So many games make bodies and objects float around like a low gravity cheat is on. COH - The only RTS i've seen that combines destrustible enviroments and amazing physics together so perfectly that actually makes the maps extremely important to how a battle plays out. Makes C&C 3 look like childs play. GTAIV - The Euphoria physics in GTA really are the next step i think, i've never seen a game combine animation and physics so perfectly. |

As mentioned by Codjo this engine is called Euphoria and is made by NaturalMotion. It is also being used in the forthcoming SW: The Force Unleashed (along with DMM and Havok which should make it even more fun, and probably make it the best ragdoll so far featured in a game). Check out www.naturalmotion.com and The Force Unleashed web site to see some pretty good demos and other info. EDIT: In answer to your question BobTheCool: Yes, it was also used in GTA IV - although not in conjunction with DMM like SW:TFU. |

Yes, that's hilarious. What would be funny as if the cops actually pulled you over for drink-driving. Awesome fun that game. |

Totally! Watching the person you've taken out for drinks face-plant never gets old in that game. |

But the physics are powered by Euphoria. |
Paperboy Posts: 23 Joined: 22 Jul 2008 |
Wrong. The charactors behavior, and ragdolls are powered by euphoria. The physics are probably powered by havok, but thats a guess. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2963 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | F.E.A.R. has the best Ragdoll physics, seriously nothing can top it. ESPECIALLY when it glitches out. I had a folder full of screenshots before. -and about NaturalMotion Euphoria, It's really cool, and it's a huge step forward in gaming...but damnit now that things are realistic it isn't even half as funny as it use to be >_< |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 890 Joined: 26 Mar 2008 | You want to see funny, occasionally the physics in Perfect Dark Zero screw up and the body of an enemy is given zero weight. Watch as they tumble through the air like paper in the wind. I shot a guy to death on my screen and he launched up into the air and floated off around the corner. A minute later his silouhette appeared on my brothers screen, hovering above him. |

Almost every game on the market has ragdoll physics these days, but there are certain games that just give you a certain feeling of satisfaction as the bodies fly through the air, limbs flailing about. My personal favorites are, Half Life 2, Gears Of War and Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory/Double Agent. What games have the best ragdoll in your opinion?
