Bows as a feasible weapon option. an item ranking system that isn't as simple as bad, good, better, daedric. Item upgrades. no level scaling, just hard (but poorly equipped) enemies from the start (level scaling sacrifices all immersion). Magic that has more options than ranged or touch. e.g. cone, (area of effect, loses strength with range) curse (long duration), orb (similar to ranged, but impact does nothing, it constantly emits what it is meant to do) or impact (does what it's meant to do as well as delivering a large physics impact). |

Copy Clerk Posts: 109 Joined: 15 Jul 2008 | I'd like to see quests that allow for more character development. Generally in Oblivion quests consisted of a 5 minute chat with the guildmaster followed by a three day trek into the wilderness, only to return for another five minute chat and a few pieces of gold. Conversations between multiple characters would be nice, maybe even mini cutscenes in which your character speaks. Lose the skill minigames. (speechcraft and security, a level 5 lockpicker shouldn't be able to get through an expert lock) Better combat. Something doesn't feel quite right about slash, slash, block, slash, slash, block... Some realistic physics would be nice too. |

oohh that too. And throwing weapons and crossbows. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 1 Joined: 24 Jul 2008 | I enjoyed oblivion but all the single playering got old, it was best when you were leading a squad against large numbers of enemies, eg: Kvatch etc Oblivion NEEDS WARS! imagine a huge siege on a fortress with 30+ units on each side (+ limited spawning) where you can attack it or defend it eg: by operating a catapult to damage the structure (scenery destruction) before ordering a charge into the breach or getting a bow and firing through arrow slits to whittle away the attackers or pouring boiling oil down onto the enemy and depending on who wins each war the storyline branches off differently. I know that so many units would take a lot of processing power but it would be worth it, imagine leading an army to reclaim the collapsing province of Tamriel, IT WOULD BE AWESOME!!! |

Funny, that was exactly what I was going to type. |
Paperboy Posts: 15 Joined: 20 Jul 2008 | I'd love to see more variation in weapons, both from a skill(s) sense and an actual weapon type. |
Paperboy Posts: 36 Joined: 24 Jul 2008 | Just more variety in general. Including voice actors. Uterfrykte (I am NOT checking if that's spelt right) Matron is just an invisible generic (albeit harder) troll! Lazy! |
Anonymous Source Posts: 10 Joined: 4 Jun 2008 | More voice actors. More Sean Bean (was gratafied to see him die, should happen again) More weapons and less bloody Zombies, there were far too many it was quite drove. |

Muckraker Posts: 328 Joined: 26 Apr 2008 | What I didn't like in Oblivion was all the damn load screens. They were kinda fast, but there were so many. Hopefully when we're all playing the PlayboxWii540 in a few years consoles and PC's will be strong enough that we can just walk into buildings and locations without a load screen (A la GTA4). Also, More memorable characters. The only really great character was The Prince of Madness in the expansion (his name escapes me). More NPC's like him would be fun, as well as more voice actors, no/low amounts dialouge sharing. |

Seconded. Wouldn't mind the removal of Fast Travel, if they'd put in Mark/Recall again, and other conventional fast-travel alternatives re-appear (think Silt Striders) Furthermore, the game would need more environmental variety. Compared to Morrowind's 'dark' world with many different landscapes, Oblivion was just a fairy tale bloomfest. |
Paperboy Posts: 17 Joined: 28 Apr 2008 | no fast travel or perhaps once u visit a town you can fast travel there again like in guild wars |
Beat Writer Posts: 160 Joined: 1 Jul 2008 | I know this isn't SUCH a big deal but Also when i got a statue in Oblivion can we get it somewhere were everyone can see it not in the northern side of a town noone ever goes to. I mean c'mon.. Oh! And also a more interesting combat system which isn't just whacking them with a sword until they suddenly fall down because of a sudden heart attack maybe something like in Dark Messiah: Might and magic that was a sweet ass combat system. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 7 Joined: 23 Jul 2008 | One thing i noticed was that when i was playing Morrowind, the Marksman skill wasn't just set to bows, but it was also used in throwing knives & stars, and also crossbows. This sort of thing would be a great addition to a new TES game, so long as they get the physics right. i hated in Morrowind how i would shoot directly at a Cliff Racer, and my arrow would skew off at a random angle as if it had hit something. Bring back levitation, or at least the jump spell, coz i loved using a really powerful one i made to fly around the map. Possibly some kind of new race, like i said earlier, or the ability to play as a Daedra. know this wouldn't make much sense, but maybe if you summoned one you could control it for a while. Bring back werewolves, but only if the NPCs don't try to kill you if they see you transform. or something like that. Make the jumping more realistic. on both Morrowind and Oblivion, whenever you jump in third person mode, your person just sort of squats down and goes up in the air. Lastly, maybe NPC relationships, like in Fable where you could go up to someone and just give them stuff, then propose. Maybe even just friends who live in your house and help you out at times. |

Beat Writer Posts: 128 Joined: 12 Feb 2008 | Oblivion, IMO, was the worst of the series, and there's good reason for it. It was terribly linear, incredibly repetitive in just about every aspect, from the guilds, to the NPCs, to the multitude of stupid gates you had to close right down to the dungeons themselves that were all the damn same. The armor, weapons and spells were uninspired, the Horse travel/combat was infuriating (they should take a lesson from the Mount & Blade devs). And for a TES game, it was small. Not as tiny as Morrowind, but no where near the size of Daggerfall. So, here's my wish list, and I'll mostly avoid saying 'more of everything'. Fast travel is fine as long as you've been there before. Travel between larger cities possible via boats/siltstriders (or something fitting of the area). Much more varied and randomized dungeons spread out over a substantially larger land mass. I'll go so far as to say randomized terrain is OK as long as it's populated with "things". A main story line that doesn't start until much further into the game. Like a dozen hours or so. Better spell crafting. No level scaling!!!! Better Horse combat (again, see Mount & Blade) Far more character classes/specializations. No stupid mini games. And finally, make it somewhat challenging. Oblivion was childishly easy. If Daggerfall was chess, Morrowind was checkers. That makes Oblivion 'Knivesy-Spoonsy'. There was no challenge at all. And once you opened up those stupid gates, it just made things even more frustrating. I pretty much wanted to avoid the main quest because it was so damn short. And even then it took little time to finish all the guild quests. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 9 Joined: 24 Jul 2008 | I hated it when if you killed someone in there home then a guard would suddenly appear and know what you have done and try to kill you. On the next one they should only go after you if thay see you do it |

Muckraker Posts: 262 Joined: 4 Jun 2008 | At least quadruple the amount of voice actors. Quadruple dammit quadruple! And don't spend your money on patrickstewarts and seanbeans, spend it on professional voice actors! Better user interface. Like, make a interface which is quick and simple to use. Binding magic casting to "c" was a good idea but no, having your character fill up approximately half of the inventory screen, having lots of tabs and having to scroll and scroll one hell of a amount, weren't a good ideas. Respect your own lore dammit. Where's the riots? Where's the jungle Cyrodiil was supposed to be? Only jungle I'm seeing are the tabs in the inventory screen. Better object handling. Spears and throwing knives back. Better faces. More armor, weapons, enemies, artifacts, objects, people and clothes. Boats and such back for people who don't like to instantly teleport somewhere. Better combat. Having to always dismount is just unacceptable. Better AI. More skills. Stop reducing the amount of skills with every new game. Okay, I can understand dropping the language skills from Daggerfall (though roleplayers might like those kind of skills) but dropping Medium Armor is just ridiculous! Also, axe isn't a blunt weapon. Better engine. Even with good computers, Morrowind and Oblivion have lots of slow moments.
Dude, the bad guy's main base is in a volcano. That's an instant penalty to the story points. If I remember correctly, Morrowind was 10 square miles and Oblivion 16. Or it was 8 and 12. Or 12 and 16. Or square kilometers. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 80 Joined: 11 Nov 2007 | lets see...more cities. I liked the variety of cities in morrowind and they all had something unique about them. more towns as well. whats wrong with having a tiny little town that you can rest at? more dynamic fighting. why cant the swords clash together? then the more skilled you are with the weapon the greater the chance of you recovering from that quicker. and if you miss it should actually affect you, like stumbling forward. and how about if you are at level like 75 on long swords, yes I would like to have the different sword skills, you have a chance of piercing their armor or something. and low level marksman have a bow that is kind of shaky fast travel that was kinda like morrowind's. I liked having to go to a town just to go to another quickly. they could also have a scroll that you could buy to fast travel from any location, but it would be extremely expensive. because unlike oblivion's fast travel that scroll would be more like teleportation and you could escape battles using it. more variety in weapons. I like having all those different types of weapons in morrowind. I actually missed spears. with the combat system like it was in oblivion spears would actually have been useful. They would also make the imperial palace guards look cooler holding a spear upright. more variety in armor too. there was quite a bit of variety in morrowind, but in oblivion there was far less. I want pauldrons back. I mean I liked being able to have 2 different pauldrons. and how about left boot and right boot? that would allow for greater character uniqueness. how about giving store owners a greater amount of gold as you buy and sell from them more. it only makes sense. more skills. this goes along with the whole more weapons and armor too. more weapon types means more weapon skills are required. and what happened to medium armor? I would like to see better AI. I also want creatures and bandits to attack towns and settlements. is that too much to ask? how about the ability of actually getting a normal job. it is kinda something small and you dont even need to animate it. how about the screen just kinda blacks for a few seconds and it turns out to be like 6-8 in game hours later and your mercantile and speechcraft skills go up along with a random one depending on the type of job. get rid of a lot of the leveling. I want it to be hard to find certain types of armor and weapons. leveling made the enemies too easy as well. some leveled enemies are okay like bandits occasionally, but normal creatures in the wilderness should vary by level. not yours theirs. you should be able to find some low levels of one creature and some high levels of the same creature. it makes you take a chance with every battle adding a kind of risk element to the game. the hit and miss spell casting of morrowind was actually pretty realistic. if you are a low level mage then you should have trouble casting higher level spells, not be unable to cast them at all. horse combat would be nice. how about random people being chased by guards and killing other people. then they go to jail. and you can help them escape thus befriending them. if you are going to have a small number of voice actors then make have dialogue boxes instead and only have the main characters talk. how about the ability to feel truly evil. being able to summon daedra to attack a settlement then having the guards chase you down out it the wilderness instead of waiting for you to come back into town. that way it would feel like cyrodil really wants you dead. also remember the death warrants that you got after killing X amount of a certain type of guard? I want those back. more guilds. plain and simple there weren't enough. also if you join one guild you shouldn't be able to join another, or it should be really hard to get in and you could act as a double agent for your favored of the 2 rival clans. dark brotherhood and morag tong for instance. if you are in one the other should be inaccessible to you, because they both have people watching you and would know if you are in one or the other. obviously one would be legal and the other would be illegal adding to the whole you can be bad instead of good. more diverse landscape. I liked how in morrowind the landscape changed drastically. I would actually not mind if we went back to morrowind as a continent not just vvardenfell alone. that is actually a little bigger than cyrodil. becoming a bandit yourself would be nice. then you could have different bandit groups and be able to either create your own or join one of those though that would be difficult to do. a new race wouldn't make sense since all the continents have a native race, unless you mean hybrids which would just be weird and unnecessary. how about the ability to break open doors instead of lock picking them. it would take less time but then anybody around you would then call the guards and you would get a price on your head because of all the noise being made. how about some middle ground between the psychic guards of oblivion and the retarded ones of morrowind? thats all I can think of off the top of my head. also wrong site for this go to the elder scrolls official site and post this. then you might get what you want. and yes I am aware of the hypocrisy. EDIT: thought of another one. being able to wear clothes under armor or and robes above it. except shoes of course. I liked that in morrowind. |

Actually I think Oblivion had a horrible system of leveling! It didn't matter whether you were level 1 or 100. As long as you had a silver, deadric or enchanted weapon and a healing spell you were next to invulnerable! |
Paperboy Posts: 17 Joined: 24 Jul 2008 | I feel a bit bad but I've thought of a few more: - I'd like to, but will never see, the return of almost complete freedom. By this I mean being able to make just about any item or spell you could ever imagine. For example, you want to break into the vaults in Vivec, but all the doors are very hard to unlock. You could give up and never get in OR you could enchant enchant something to do it for you (In my case I had silk pants of lock opening, or something along those lines.) People may feel that this would unbalance the game but in truth it would just keep it fun to play after doing a majority of the quests for the guilds and such. - Joining the Imperial Legion. Am I the only one that thought being in the Legion was freaking awesome? - I know it's a fantasy RPG but, more realistic qualities for immersions sake. Like, I kind of enjoyed being able to actually kill people, not just knock them silly. If I hit someone with glass war hammer I expect more than '_______ is unconscious.' |

lol you didn't wait long for that quest then... i kept getting sidetracked from doing the mission to actually take back Kvatch, and by the time i came back, every enemy was storm atronachs, spider daedra, xilvlai, and LOTS of them. they were all way overpowered. long story short, it was a sh|tstorm that i barely walked out of. lol it was fun though. i don't really understand the hatred for enemy-leveling. |

I agree with you both about the music. Auriel's Ascension is one of my favourite songs of all time though, its the audio equivalent of snow falling, in my opinion. Here's hoping TES 5 has two or more CD's of music. |

But that's the thing, you were either way too good or not good enough, they just really need to balance it out some more. Drain 500 health on touch = everything is dead on touch. |
No more fast travel, more diversity in music and creatures. Also free DLC.
