That's because Cryodill is a different country. The country of Morrowind is larger than the country of Cyrodill, canonly, although not by much honestly. What made Morrowind seem so much larger was, actually, the game's faults. The fast travel system was a bitch and when not using it you didn't move very fast, plus the lack of decent personal transportation made traveling from one city to another coma-inducing. But that's besides the point. What I really want to see is a place we haven't seen yet. Thusfar in the Elder Scrolls series, they've shown us Morrowind, Cyrodill, Highrock, Hammerfall, Oblivion, and the Shivering Isles. In Tamriel there are other countries such as the Black Marsh, Skyrim, Elsweyr, the Valenwood, Summerset Isle, not to mention five or six other continents in the world of The Elder Scrolls altogether. One by one we've been shown the countries of Tamriel, and I'd really like a game where we either see more countries at one time [Arena, Morrowind, and Oblivion all took place exclusively in one location. Oblivion, Morrowind, and Cyrodill to be precise. Daggerfall took place in Highrock and Hammerfall.] or all of the countries of Tamriel open and available to you. I mean, in most MMORPGs the entire world is available to you to adventure, but in the Elder Scrolls you only get one or two countries at a time and that's it. Granted the countries are huge, but I think with the processing power of the Xbox 360 and the PS3, as well as higher end computers, all of the countries or at least two or three of the countries would be applicable. |

Paperboy Posts: 23 Joined: 24 Jul 2008 | I forgot some- Can we have at least some part of tes5 Not taking place in a generic fantasy meadow/town/dungeon/forest? give us jungles! deserts! anything! It would be nice to have some NPCS that wander around behaving like the avarage player i.e radomly atacking people, jumping over walls, breaking into houses and accidentally stealing stuff? it would be nice to have company. |
Beat Writer Posts: 162 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | And now, some different complaints (not that this is stopping me at all from running through Oblivion again) Enchanted items and clothing - I can find items that have multiple effects, but I can't make them anymore? Bullshit. Guilds - We have established the Dark Brotherhood and the Morag Tong. We have also established the Fighters Guild and the Blackwood Company. And now we have the Mages Guild and the Necromancers. Why not have competing guilds be joinable (truly joinable, not that "take down the Blackwood Company" joining-up nonsense), and have separate quest lines for both? Perhaps, and this may be asking for a bit much, but if I join one, I can't join the other. Crazy, I know, but recall how difficult it was to join the Fighters guild and the Thieves guild in Morrowind. If I may actually go overboard for a second here, joining the Necromancers gives you necromantic abilities, such as bringing fallen comrades and enemies alike back from the dead for your own personal zombie army. That sounded more awesome the more I typed it. Anyway... Heading up places - I was Grand Champion in under two weeks of escaping prison. What the hell?! And the only reason it took me that long was I spent some time hanging around Anvil doing stuff after solving the Gray Prince's mystery for him. And I recently (last night) took over as Sheogorath as head of the Shivering Isles. I looked back at my journal, that only took me a week as well. Perhaps, in addition to multiple guilds doing the same sort of work, longer quest lines so we don't take over everything in a week's time. If I think of anything else no one has said, I shall be back. [EDIT] I said I'd be back. Unique items - Since my characters are always packrats (you never know when it'll come in handy), I think I can safely say that the majority of "unique" items in Oblivion (some of which I have several of) are simply regular items with enchantments I'd never put on there myself. Again, bullshit. When I think unique items, I think Trueflame and Hopesfire. Those were great: swords which are on fire! Awesome! Plus, I could actually use them as torches! That was some deep thinking that went in to those weapons. What do I get in Oblivion? Oh, look, a Truncheon of Submission, it's a damned ebony warhammer with damage health enchantments (there is a "Truncheon" in game, I don't know what it actually is, though). You know, that's great, since I already have six of them. Story - What the hell? I break out of the Imperial prison (THE IMPERIAL PRISON!!!) (!!!) and somehow, no one notices? No one calls into question this prisoner carrying around an artifact of the emperor (aside from Jaufree, who quickly decides I can be trusted)? How does he know I'm not the one who killed the emperor? Now, Morrowind (never played any TES before then), I find I'm supposed to be the Nerevarine, get shunned for daring to suggest I am (as many others have before), having to convince everyone and their dog that I am, finally getting praise for being the true incarnate, AND then kicking some ass. Finally convincing everyone I am the reincarnation of Indoril Nerevar is infinitely more satisfying than anything Oblivion threw at me, plot-wise. Again, if I think of anything else, I shall be back. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1202 Joined: 11 Jun 2008 | oh... and better fighting. the fighting system was barely at the level of a typical hack n slash and the animations for the attacks were underwhelming. let's get some trained fighters into that mo-cap suit people. my character in Oblivion looks so godamn apathetic when he fights. like he's not even trying. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 1 Joined: 24 Jul 2008 | I think oblivion would be better if it had more races, more map area, terrain, weapons, armor, and towns. It would be nice if they shown Kvatch rebuilt. I didn't like how all the diffrent races' voices sounded exactly the same. I think they should randomize the pitches for each character. Spears and double blades would be nice. They need more hair doos and clothing and add facial hair styles. they should add a barber shop so you can change your hair styles too. They should also add in children and make it so your character can get married. One thing that really bothered me was the way it looked when the character turns. They just spin without moving their feet. And if your characters hair is long enough it will go through clothes or armor. Another thing is you get bounties without a warning for picking up or touching something that doesn't belong to you. There should make everyday jobs so you can make more money. The Creatures and people seem to be to weak when you reach the very high levels. They should also make the enemies fight smarter. Sheilding seems to defelct and stun foes too easily. The skills of restoration, athletics, Acrobatics, and Block takes too long to level up. |

Actually TES3: Morrowind took play on one island (a.k.a. Vardenfell), roughly half the full size of Morrowind. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t261/crpggeek/TamrielMap.jpg |

I never finished the game so I didn't know if it went beyond Vardenfell or not @_@ But the fact remains that the bad things about the game made it seem bigger than it really was. |

What was wrong with oblivions world? It had everything you could want. When you say varied I don't understand, Oblivion had seas, mountains, forests, industrial city's. What more could you want? |
Muckraker Posts: 283 Joined: 25 Nov 2007 | How about characters who aren't frozen in time unless/until you act directly upon them? Or at the very least secondary (non-essential) characters who have something resembling lives and unfolding stories? Aside from a handful of choice phrases depending on what you did ("It's you! The Hero of Kvatch!") none of the characters ever did anything besides stumble about their daily routines and engage in repetitive conversations that never changed unless- again- you acted upon the world. What I would love is for you to be able to participate in another character's quests in some way, if you happened upon them in certain situations or places. (QUEST: Provide sniper support for Charlie Chucklehead as he attempts to do battle with the Bandit Lord.) And I would love to see some more depth from the bit players. For example: Marz, the healer in Bravil, always says how much she misses the Black Marsh. Maybe bringing her some sort of Argonian-made trinket would give her some comfort, and in gratitude that Temple would charge you less for services, and the Mara shrine would be more apt to ignore your Infamy rating when you need healing. Make the majority of the characters more than line-spewing cardboard cut-outs. Aren't they supposed to be people? Let's have the NPCs look and act more like actual characters and less like robots. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 4 Joined: 25 Jul 2008 | It has to be said the combat system could do with a complete overhaul... I couldn't count the amount of times a clusterfuck resulted in a heap of freindly npcs but the enemy still standing. Also the levelling system should be more clear (I know TES doesn't like to dwell on this) but it'd be nice to have some kind of indication of how powerfull someone is before you go wading in with a frying pan and taintless naivety. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2264 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | As long as there is a construction set I'm fine because I wouldn't buy another TES without mods, but what I want stock TES to fix is the quest writing, and the quests in general - I just didn't like them, the only fun one I thought was the "Who Dun it" one where you kill everyone at that party without noticing and some Thieve's Guild and Shrine quests but other than that they were more of a ... "Good on paper" kinda thing, but once you played you realized how much they sucked since there were just a few ways to handle each quest, most of them were dungeon searching, and then once you finish the quests, congrats, you are the leader of whatever group in the world you were doing quests for. I became Arch-Mage, Fighters Guildmaster, Arena Battlemaster, Grey Fox, Leader of the Dark Brotherhood, Emperor, THE GOD OF ****ING MADNESS, I'M A GOD DAMN DAEDRIC PRINCE! (Shivering Isles, which had much better quests btw, almost though, but not quite) yet I am hardly skilled in ANY of the reasons those guilds exist for (example: An Orc as an Archmage, or anyone as the God of Madness) - the choice was pointless, it's either "get this reward, but other faction will still do what you want but with a frown on their face, or get this reward, and that faction will have a smile on their face...oh but those guys wont...doesn't matter though, you can bribe them all". -and this goes without saying but more fucking voice actors please, if VTM: Bloodlines can hire 53 voice actors then bethsoft should be able to hire 100. last but not least, NO LEVEL SCALING, I shouldn't have to get a mod for that. Level scaling made the game make no sense (I'm supposed to close oblivion gates one by one all by myself but guards are 15 levels above me at all times) AND too easy. OH MY GOD KVATCH IS OVERWHELMED WITH....Scamps? Fucking SCAMPS?! I'm saving the town from SCAMPS?! I can kill these things with my dick, and I'm a mage... a female mage... (oh and a better leveling and skill system for sure, Oblivion is pretty much an RPG with damn near no "RP" in it) |

I think the line needs to be drawn somewhere. Even though this is fantasy, scaling a wall and sniping people is not really realistic fantasy if I may be so bold and it's not something that I can really see as an ES kind of thing. On the subject of NPCs.. their AI needs some work. The running in front of my Daedric longsword is a perfect and annoying example. Maybe some kind of self-preservation instinct would help out. |

Yeah everything I tried in that game, no matter what, my allies were MAGNETIZED to my weapons, arrows, and spells, they even started fights with my conjured creatures, and ended up getting themselves killed. Also by "varied world" - it had a varied environment but the whole damn world just seemed to be "cookie cutter", I mean, why does the imperial city have a population of 50? - and why do I seem to see these exact people everywhere I go? Why is there only wolves attacking me in all of Cyrodil? I just went to Jail for 500 days, why is the world exactly the same as it was the last 500 days ago? EDIT: Actually after a while, I was so sick of accidently murdering people and reloading saves, I just used cheats to take off my bounty and infamy. *AI teammate runs in front of me and gets crushed by my 150 pound daedric warhammer* AI Buddy: MUUUURDUUURRR MUUURRRDUUUURRR! SUM 1 HAS BEEN MURDURR'D. |

Anonymous Source Posts: 1 Joined: 25 Jul 2008 | Well, gameplay wise, alot. But most of it has been said. So, plot-wise. Akavir. We've heard so much of it, it's caused many discussions in the Lore circles (I consider myself a bit of a TES lore buff). And this seems the PERFECT time for them. No Emperor, Tamriel in chaos and possible anarchy, ravished by the Daedra. I think it's time the Akaviri showed up and tried to invade again. It would introduce a whole new aspect to the beastiary with the vampire snake-men and whatever horrors they might bring along, to say nothing of Akaviri weapons and armor beyond the katana. You could introduce something that felt truly alien like the island of Vvardenfell did, and it would open the door for true epicness. Imagine if they improved the combat and set up a scene or two in the main quest with large battles between the forces of Tamriel and Akavir. Or if you don't want to chronicle the actual war, let us out of whatever prison we're in now after the war is lost and have us try to overthrow the new Potentate. Whatever the case, this setting is rife with new things for the series, from new creatures and equipment to foreign Akaviri magics being put into the Tamrielic spellweaving society. |
Paperboy Posts: 16 Joined: 25 Jul 2008 | I would really like if the added some modability to the console version. I finally got a PC that could run Oblivion and I am running over 200 mods. I think it would be fairly easy. Have download from the Xbox LIVE Market or PSN and then have another available on the internet for the PC. Then you link them together like Xbox 360's can link to Windows Media Center. Then just have a program that ports PC mods into xbox mods which you apply through the PC program. I'd also like some more intense combat, stabbing rather than just swinging the whole time. And horse combat with special pros and cons and enemies also engage in horse combat (from horses) also a few mounted only weapons couldn't hurt. Another thing is that journal thing they have. I think they could make it more immersive. I've always been fond of the idea of having to map the areas manually and such, allowing for custom makers and notes. Also it'd be a lot better than walking to the place and back to the road for a fast travel point. And I think they should add more hotkeying options so you don't have to enter the inventory so often. Something like the order and taunt menus in Unreal Tournament 3. And the there's the fact the world felt so small. They should add travel services from Morrowwind (never played it though) and if the keep fast travel have some random events like finding a cave or encountering a monster. I could go on forever. So I'll just go point form for the rest. -addictions to skooma Ok so I definatly should just my own game lol. |
Beat Writer Posts: 127 Joined: 22 Feb 2008 | Oh i forgot... mounted combat would be killer duel wielding weapons make the the night vision black and white or something the blue was annoying the green light was also annoying make potions or heals a bigger part of the game, disliked the idea of waiting or spamming heals after every battle saving my overly priced potions that I didn't come by enough. (though it allowed for a lot of auto saves that helped when I) Hired allies? I filled this hole by doing escort mission with invincible allies, but not finishing the mission but bring them along on other missions |

Do the side quests to get all the guards from the other cities and you don't need to do crap until you're in the gate. Also, I know this sounds broken, but infinite pots from store traders. I don't feel like going to every town in the game to get 50 minor potions. Atleast give them more potions. |

I'd rather have it than fighting "Weirdass dogs and flying jellyfish" More respawning followers More weapon and armor varieties. Better armor more rare More alternative ending quests than you finish it or the character dies |

Wait a second...am I reading this right? CELLPHONES?!?! Anyway, consistent accents would be nice....maybe a little depth or CHARACTER displayed in the NPC's. I understand that if you are just running into someone on the street they're not giving you their life story, but something more would be nice. Also, mounted combat would really help, dismounting because a wolf is nipping at my heels as I ride by got a bit annoying after a while. Varying the dungeons, a character generator that is a bit less unwieldy, and iron the combat system please! PS. Personally, I think it would make sense for a lot of enemies to have Daedric armour/weapons seeing as how there are all these portals to Oblivion wherein reside the Daedra...but I can see how it takes away from the value of THE BEST ARMOUR IN THE GAME if everyone and their grandpa has three extra sets... |

Pretty much everything from Oblivion. If they took Morrowind, and put Oblivions stealth system in, along with the ability to manipulate your items outside your inventory, and a hybrid between the Morrowind Archery and Oblivion, it would be the perfect game almost. I read a copy of the Pocket Guide To The Empire from the special addition from somewhere(That place being a store, where I bought it, of course. Seriously), and they seemed to be foreboding things to happen in all the proveniences. I would like more water, so to better use sailable ship and pirate plugins that people make. |

Beat Writer Posts: 172 Joined: 13 Mar 2008 | I'm sick of elf and people-lands. Set it in Black Marsh, where there are barely-literate lizard tribes and conscious, malevolent jungles. Be immersive and, if need be, unfair - you should be given the ability to be a Dark Elf as usual, and everyone should hate you because your people enslaved the native population. Swarms of flesh-eating insects that deform your face. I have a separate save in Morrowind specially for the corprus experience, because horrible degenerative zombie diseases scare the pants off me and they did a good enough job making you feel like a diseased monstrosity that I didn't even want it infecting my regular save. |
