Gone Gonzo Posts: 3002 Joined: 8 May 2008 | Well this will end in a flame war and a lock. The difference between the new 80 GB and the 40GB is the storage nothing else and they are cancelling the 40GB (Christs sake how many are they going to cancel this is the 5th canceled) Demos are 1-2 GB |
Paperboy Posts: 13 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | that's what i thought. After all, you don't get any extra features; just a bigger HDD. Is anyone close to filling a 40Gb? How much is downloadable, how much is needed etc? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2846 Joined: 10 Mar 2008 | If you're that concerened about space then get the 80Gb. Otherwise, keep you PS2 and get a 40Gb there isn't too much of a difference between the two. OORRR! (this could be differnt in the UK) wait until september for the 40Gb to turn into the 80Gb for the same functionality and the space, just more memory. |

The old 80 GB has PS2 back compat and memory card slots. (Why are they getting rid of it?) |

That was the only reason why i got an 80gig. if i didn't care about that, i would get the 40 gig and upgrade the HD to a 160 gig hardrive. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1000 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | I have heard (for whatever this is worth) that Sony is doing a re-form factor of the PS3 in the coming months to produce a smaller unit that puts out less heat. While it's unlikely that this new version will have the backwards compatibility of the current 80 or 60 gig versions, if you already have a PS2, I'd consider waiting for that. Especially if you play for long hours and pay your own power bill (the PS3 raised my power bill by a fairly noticeable chunk the first month I had it). - J |

Anonymous Source Posts: 4 Joined: 16 Jun 2008 | Get the PS3 cause you can get LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, SOCOM, MGS4, Killzone 2, InFamous, Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Uncharted drake's fortune 2, Heavenly Sword 2, MAG(256 player online), DC Universe Online(Super hero MMO), and, of course, HOME!!!!!! the only 360 games i'm interested in is Gears of War 2 and fable2. and most 360 games end up on the computer anyway P.S. the 360-exclusive Bioshock is now on the PS3, with xtra content!!!!!!!! HAHAHA!!! |

Meanwhile, the internal hard drive for the wii is dwarfed by a 1GB SD card. Amazing. |

People don't like Final Fantasy(RPG)/God of War(Action)? Here I was thinking good sales meant it was liked. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2616 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | Just get all the consoles and a nice computer and sell the PS3 and Xbox 360 on Ebay when Christmas comes around for a handsome profit. Then you'll have all the proper action and RPG games you'll ever want and Wii Sports to play when your silly friends come over. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 1 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | You shouldn't be worried about space when deciding between a 80GB and a 40GB PS3. Sony actually put up directions on how to change out the hard drive in the PS3 if you're having storage issues. Link here: http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=362 I didn't read the whole page, so I don't know if it'll void your warranty or something, but at least the directions are there. With that in mind, I think backwards compatibility is the main difference between the 80GB and 40GB models and the reason for the extra cost. If you already have a PS2, I don't see why you need to pay extra money just for 40GB extra storage when hard drives are much much cheaper elsewhere. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2792 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | Short answer is YES, and uh, you are gonna need to do a lot of research for yourself if you are gonna ask a question so vague, I could go on and on about the pros and cons of the systems but without info about things like what games you are interested in, features, etc. - I can't really tell you much. Anyway, the extra 100 pounds is NOT that bad, it's a win win either way but if anything, you get more bang for your buck from the PS3. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1308 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | Go ahead and get any PS3 model you want it really does not matter with respect to hard drive space since you can switch the drive yourself to anything you like. They are coming out with a 160gb PS3 presumably to compete with the new 60gb 360. Either way drives much bigger than the ones offered on any PS3 model currently out, or soon to be out are available for relatively cheap. |

So, everyone,
Is the PS3 80Gb (available soon in UK) worth the cash (£299).
Bear in mind that an XBOX 360 is £199 (UK).
I have a PS2, and really want to play metal gear solid. The problem is the price. I acknowledge that you get a blue-ray player which is (near) future proof, and lots of other stuff.
I guess my main problem is do i buy the console or put £300 quid towards a new high-end pc to run games?
HELP
Laters, y'all
