Beat Writer Posts: 137 Joined: 8 Jun 2008 | I had to stand in line for much too long while some kid bought a game with small bills and change while his mom watched. Can't she buy the game and make him pay, like all sensible people? Of course he counted wrong, and had to count out more change. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 366 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | I only get annoyed at those kinds of people when they eat up all the new releases that are actually decent before I have a chance to get to 'em. Any time other than that, I just sit back and watch them pour more development money into my hobby. |
Beat Writer Posts: 162 Joined: 22 Nov 2007 | Oh, you mean just like all the "hardcore!" gamers acted when they ignorantly entered game stores back when the PS1 launched? Get a bit of perspective. You are not superior to what you scathingly refer to as "casual" gamers or soccer moms. At least they are having fun with the games, instead of being frustrated all the time just because their hobby has hit a bigger market. |

Agreed. About the OP. I do not feel like punching casual gamers in the face. I feel like punching stupid people in the face. Casual gamer/soccer mom/kid does not = stupid person automatically. Those people are gods compared to a duo I encountered one day. They were in the store bugging the clerks about what they owned, asking why they didn't own said game, and then going and boasting about having systems that didn't exist. The kid had said he 'special ordered' the 'x-cube' off of ebay and because of it he was better than everyone else in the store. When he asked one clerk what his favorite system was, he said the SNES and the kid asked him if he was poor or something. C'mon now. There are just unintelligent, bratty, people in the world. |

This is uninformed judgemental elitism at it's best. You were a casual gamer who just wanted gmes at random I'm sure at one point too. My point being, if you actually understand the horror behind the words, "Superman 64". |

No I feel more like punching the likes of you in the face, people who don't allow other people their own fun However, here's another question for others: Have you ever heard a casual gamer talk about a game while he's playing? Casual gamers don't buy bad games because they're stupid... they buy bad games because they can truly enjoy those, not seeing faults. Whereas I see mechanics, strategies, resources, polygons, shaders, they see just dragons and castles and explosions! Aaah, to be unknowing again... |

Sadly, most of that money gets directed to companies that basically waste it on impressive lightshows (EA, Bungie, Blizzard...) instead of those who put their money into creating games that are actually worth playing more than once (companies like Postlinear - Flying Saucer was probably the most fun I ever had in a Science Fiction flight simulator and additionally one of the most compelling storylines in one; Rage - Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds; and of course Frictional - the Penumbra series is brilliant) |

I wouldn't say EA, Bungie and Blizzard waste the money they make, but hey; different strokes for different folks. I see your point, but honestly, even if the money's not being spent ideally, it's still going to the industry... And that's a win, in the long run. Casuals get more Brain Age and Raving Rabbids (both of which I enjoyed, by the way, save your snark), hardcores get more Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid. Everyone wins. |

Yeah, I never looked in that perspective. we all were like that. Saying this doesnt mean I dont help them. the curious george kid, i helped him by saying the game sucked, but his father shoved me away from him. Its just that it kinda pisses me off. (but then again, im a teenager) |

Think back to when you were a kid, I bet you played tons of bad games, but like them just because they were video games. I did that with tons of games, like Roadrash 64, excitebike, etc. They grow out of it, and develop tastes. Same thing with music. |

I was like 8 and would either get a parent to buy it or get money off of them, and i occasionally picked up a crap game but who hasn't. And whats with the asshole above talking about doing his girlfriend? F^cking troll, hope he gets herpes. (do i get banned for saying that?) |

You got me there. But you need to understand that the gentleman whom you replied so vulgarly to was placed on probation for his post. You're now flame baiting and doing much worse than he did. What makes you think you won't get banned? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here as you're relatively new. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 573 Joined: 19 Jun 2008 | Whenever I'm in a game store around the holidays, I always see people passing by me whom I just want to stop and say "Excuse me, but that game sucks." For example, last year, I was at the local GameStop, and I passed by this woman carrying a huge stack of like 10 craptacular games. I can understand purchasing Turok if you haven't read reviews, but how the hell does The Guy Game appeal to anyone? Also, at the bottom of the stack, I saw the cardnial sin. Barbie. Horse. Adventures. I so badly wanted to tell her that all those games suck and then point out good alternatives such as Rainbow Six Vegas instead of Turok, porn instead of The Guy Game, and anything at all instead of that...thing. |

Has anyone wondered if young gamers are assholes because the older gamers were like "oh great here comes another little bitch" etc? |

Necro... I don't think he's gonna last much longer if he keeps on going the way he is. I don't think he's gonna change.. Remember Zettasan? |

I think most people have forgotten that: Yes, I feel like punching many people in the face, but I realized that won't stop them. |

Agreed, although I will admit to feeling unjustifably angry at people who don't get games and try and act like they do, which is pretty stupid of me, but none of us are perfect, heh... Btw, you've probably seen this before, but let the Gord into your life! And I managed to find an link to a copy of the last section on his site that was oddly unaccessable on the main site (the links to each subsection were dead): |

I've noticed that the two furthest extremes when it comes to gamers are 'hardcore' gamers (who seem to believe that anyone who can't get into the top 10 of any online scoreboard are somewhat inferior), they will useually hurl abuse about the other guy/gal being a noob and how they raped them last night on Halo (they take it far too seriously). On the other end of the scale you will get the people who have an almost fanatical hatred of gamers/nerds/people with either a pc or console. They seem to take a rather black and white view of: if you play games, then you are automatically a social reject who never see sunlight (or other people for that matter) and are extremely petty (we are at fanboy alert 5). They will often use the stereotype that gamers are inept when it comes to relations with the opposite sex (with the other typical observation of these poor fellows having to resort to porn/erotic anime) while they, the 'normal' people, are happily engaged in a sexually active relationship (we take their word on that). Then you get the people in the middle of these extremes who don't really care, shrug their sholders and get back to whatever they were doing. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2913 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 | Actually, I don't. I generally ignore all others in the store except the store clerk, so I don't notice any idiots around. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 104 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | I am actually more sick of seeing some of these "hardcore" gamers (especially teenagers) buying their games like they are some dirty secret. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 355 Joined: 9 Jul 2008 | It's not those little causal gamers that bother me, as it's their choice and if they can enjoy a game they know nothing about then thats their prerogative. I did the same with "Apocalypse: Starring Bruce Willis" a couple of years ago when I still had a Ps2 and would occasionally buy an old PS1 game I liked the look of; I knew nothing about it, but I was sold on the fact you could turn your gun into a flamethrower and see your hapless victim run about in flames for a few seconds screaming, or using a high intense laser beam to slice them in half when watch a pair fo legs scurry around for a while. It was not that gory considering those two points but it had a unique charm to it. What really does annoy me is when you see young kids pester parents to buy an 18+ rated game for the reasons why it's 18 and the gormless parents make no effort to check out whats on the back or ask the store clerks for info on it. |

Sometimes, when I go to game stores, i see casual gamers, casual gamer kids and *chocke* soccer moms. thats normal, but sometimes, they make extremely retarded statements, such as:
Kid: "daddy, but I really want it! cmon!" refering to a game he never saw before (when I saw this it was about curious geaorge)
Soccer Mom: "you cant have that, its not your age" (refering to Spiderman 2)
Caual Gamer: "Oh this game has bazookas in it. im gonna buy it!" (refering to ratchet and clank. its a great game, but for violence, its not worth it)
Did you ever feel like punching these people in the face?
