Gone Gonzo Posts: 1308 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | It rules and the higher difficulty is genuinely more difficult. The enemies really come at you hard. This looks like it could be up there with the DMCs and Ninja Gaidens. I sure as hell wish that the dodging worked more like NG though I find it to be a bit ugly to have to hold left and right bumper and still have my finger on rt. I can tell that the targeting is going to be a bit of a problem though unless it is tweaked for the final build. |

I've not tried it on the harder difficulties yet as I wanted to get a feel for the game, but i do agree the lock on needs some work. I was tried to force grab a Stormtrooper and kept grabbing a barrel instead, and that resulted in a lot of laser blasts hitting my soft flesh. |

Yes that happened to me and on the higher difficulties you will get rocked by blaster fire while force gripping stuff. |

You can download it on Xbox Live (and possibly PSN ... not sure, since I don't own a PS3). Seems fairly promising. The Force powers are fun, and the combat is satisfying - not quite God of War satisfying, but good enough. What'd you guys think? |
Honorable Mention: Escapist Film Festival Posts: 1749 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | How bizarre, I had exactly the opposite impression. The controls are too fiddly, the force powers unsatisfying and the lightsabre is woefully underpowered, especially considering you have much easier options for disposing of foes. The Force Unleashed wasn't really a game that was on my radar though, so I'm not that disappointed. EDIT: You can tell you're an editor though Ice, all the game titles are in italics. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1168 Joined: 26 Mar 2008 | I going to try out the demo when i get the chance, but i've already heard people saying its disappointing compared to Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast in terms of combat etc. |

Muckraker Posts: 257 Joined: 23 Jun 2008 | Someone else noticed that SW:TFU is pretty close to S:TFU eh! Thank you, I actually thought I was the only one. I mentioned it to a friend or two, and after a moment of thought they'd laugh and say "Oh ya! hahaha!" Oh, and about the demo (sorry), seeing as how my 360 is about 150 km away from me right now it's kinda hard to play haha. I haven't heard great things, but I will be at least trying it out when I get my box up here (I never thought 10 days could take so long...). |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 506 Joined: 22 Dec 2007 | It's fun, once you get past the fiddly controls you can pull off some sweet combos, and the lightsaber isn't underpowered when you use it in conjunction with force...after all the game IS the FORCE unleashed, not lightsabers unleashed, wow that sounds like some wierd porno. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 79 Joined: 1 Aug 2008 | The demo excited me because it was so similar to God of War. Minibosses with QTE special kills? Making door opening fun again? Hilariously over-the-top special powers? Air dashes? Sign me up! This is what demos are for - to take a glorified tech demo and convince me there's an action game underneath it. Compared to other Star Wars games, it's pretty jarring, though. I couldn't figure out how to deflect blaster shots, the Force powers are permanently turned to 11, and the Apprentice himself looked more like a B-list bounty hunter than a Dark Jedi. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1000 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | I was bothered that they gave us the underpowered starter apprentice to tool around with, as I think the powers would be more fun fully levelled up, but then again it is just a demo. I found myself having trouble accurately throwing objects, but other than that, I did enjoy the force powers, especially the force power combos that you could do with the lightsabre. As a demo, it achieved its end. I'm totally buying the game. - J |

Sure the controls aren't perfect and targeting is a bit finicky but that is not a dealbreaker for me. Can't wait for it to hit store shelves. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2792 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | Wow, I just realized that the abbreviation for this is "STFU" - now I can use that bad pun saying "STFU ABOUT S:TFU" Err, anyway, the demo lacks a lightsaber duel! |

Beat Writer Posts: 184 Joined: 1 Jul 2008 | I loved it actually. I know it wasn't perfect but standing there levitating a rebel up in the air while he begs for me to put him down was too much fun. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 6904 Joined: 28 Nov 2007 | The moment that did it for me was throwing a barrel through a ship window, then watching all the enemies in the hallway get sucked out before the storm doors close. |

When was this? |

Near the beginning of the demo, when you are walking down the hallway with electronic stuff on your left side and windows leading to space on the other. |

\ i'll give it a try later. |
Muckraker Posts: 246 Joined: 5 Mar 2008 | It was fun enough for me to play through the demo 3 times trying different things each time, but I'd have to agree about the controls being too wonky. They're just not smooth enough for me, and the force powers overpower the lightsaber, which for me is just crap. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1308 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | Does it really make sense to rely on a sword when you are a friggin telekinetic? Seriously you can move a Tie fighter with your mind............... Oh and there is the whole shoot lightning out of your hands which only the most powerful Jedi can even pull off. That said the controls need some adjustment, they should just get rid of the targeting system or make it easier to prioritize grippable items. The dodging mechanism is ugly as hell and centre camera need to be on one of the shoulder buttons. Oh and before I forget this thread is a dupe and should probably be merged with the older one. |
Muckraker Posts: 263 Joined: 9 Apr 2008 | It needs better melee enemies, as using a melee weapon against shooting enemies is always frustrating. Having to chase people down can get tiresome. Other than that I was just wishing for a more DMC style lock on system as rolling was kind of hard to do. Dismemberment would be nice as well. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1308 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | Meh Ninja Gaiden's dodging mechanism is much simpler than DMC's with the added benefit of incorporating defense into the action as your dodge button is the same as block. STFU is very much like NG from what I can tell in that it pays to be a defensive player, it just lacks a bit of polish when it comes to having controls that work with the player to allow them to do that. This game has the potential to be on the level of top tier action games like NG and DMC though. It's actually quite surprising, I was not expecting it to be as good as it is even with its problems. I second dismemberment. |
Beat Writer Posts: 157 Joined: 26 Mar 2008 | targeting could use some work reminds of GTA4's "you must attack this!!!!!!" targeting system. the force powers are balanced out by the fact they chew through your force gauge quite rapidly much like playing as apprentice in soul calibur. or that just could be me >_>. its good how you can get alot of different reactions from force gripping stuff, like i force gripped a rebel and moved him over to the storm troopers and clearly he got pwnd, but its good they remember who's side they are on, and the fact that characters beg for their lives or actually put up a fight, i had a storm trooper in force grip and he was still trying to shoot me. but wtf is up with the fact that when he force grips apprentice just stands there and tanks fire, it was on easy and damage is nothing, but i'd imagine you get ripped to shreds on higher difficulty settings. that aside looks hot. |
Paperboy Posts: 16 Joined: 16 Feb 2008 | I just love messing with the enemies. chasing them around with crates, tossing them into each other, dropping them from the ceiling, etc. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 7 Joined: 20 Aug 2008 | Whilst I do agree that the force powers coupled with the Euphoria engine have produced some of the best physics I've seen in a game, I think the force guage makes the gameplay a bit too stop-and-start for me. If the Apprentice is deemed powerful enough by Vader to be his apprentice, how come he can only throw three objects around before waiting for his batteries to recharge? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 98 Joined: 30 Apr 2008 | I thought it was kinda meh, the problem I had with it was there was so much trash around that the auto-target system wouldn't lock on to what I wanted, and how you throw things was a litle to hard to aim. Also the bossbattle being nothing but a quicktime event was just sad, why couldn't I use the force and just lift the thing up and toss it over the side or at very least knock it over with the 100s of things I threw at it before stumbling on to the quicktime event thing. it felt very tacky like the devs went "oops the guy is too powerful to have any real challenge so lets make all the boss fights quicktime events" |

So I went and downloaded the demo just now and played through until you slice the AT-ST before it finished I have to say it looks really promising, and slashing through guys with a Lightsaber as well as using the force to blow things up, throw guys around and lightning bolt others is a wonderful feeling. I know they did that in Battlefront 2 but this just makes it so much intense and fun to do. I don't know if the demo was on a timer so i am not sure if I could have gotten further and done some saber to saber combat but I was so engrossed in slashing through people and using the force powers as much as possible i didn't care, especially throwing TIE Fighters into a squad of Stormtroopers. I need to go pre-order this. But what does everyone else think of it so far?
