I read the books and didn't know he was in the third game. Wonderful. I really can't believe no one's said this yet, but the Joker! C'mon! Greatest supervillian of all time right there! For bad, I'd say any James Bond villian. Not only do they have the most elaborate schemes to kill you, rather than say, pump you full of lead, they give you 20 minutes to get out. I'm sorry, but unless you're intent is to kill the hero, rather than bore him to death, you're not a villian. |

this is mainly a game thread, and the Joker has never been properly done in a game, except maybe in the original NES batman. And honestly, the joker has been overhyped way way way way way too much lately. |

If you could charm/intimidate well enough, you could actually convince him to shoot himself in the face. Was most satisfying the first time I did it. |

I love it hat Ridly got a lot of screen time in Super, Prime 1 & 3 to praise his coolness. Black Viper in Contra 4 : killing one gigantic mantis like monster alien thing made of human corpses is one thing, but even fighting inside its body to blow its eyes and brain off makes it epic. Diablo : is made of evil. Bad Tobias Bruckner : looks like shit, his voice sounds like shit, fighting him was shit and he is in one of the worst shit games I can imagine (Turok Evolution). |
Muckraker Posts: 348 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | Good -Alma (F.E.A.R.): another tragic character. Once you find out her story you're almost rooting for her. -Revolver Ocelot (Metal Gear Solid series): say what you will about the writing, but Ocelot's charisma and double agent work made for some interesting characterization. Also, the battles with him him in Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 3 were among my favorite boss battles. Bad -Umbrella (Resident Evil): I don't think I need to go into detail here. They're just the "evil for evil's sake" villains with absolutely no originality. Every member of the company you meet is a mustache twirling ball of cheese. -The Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3): I hated her from the moment she first spoke, and not in a good way. She does nothing but wax poetic in a very unconvincing manner. If she wasn't kicking Snake's ass every five minutes I would never believe she was really a soldier. It all ends with a generic boss fight and a lengthy cutscene meant to elicit sympathy. It may have worked for some gamers, but not for me. As far as I'm concerned the Boss is chewing scenery in hell. |

Nergal from the first western Fire Emblem, he scared the shit out of me when he tore off that turban thing. Worst: I tend not to remember the bad ones. |

I still love to hate that bastard Irenicus from BGII, even though the actual fight was way way way too easy. And lastly, the final boss and subsequent revelation (no spoilers) in The Witcher blew me right away. Lovely. Bad ones: Al-Mualim from Assasins Creed - in his FIRST appeareance, both me and my GF simultaneounsly exclaimed "He will turn out to be the main villain!" |

So true, Saren was probably the most unlikeable villian that I ever saw. |

Bowser is full of mysterious backstory. For example: Why does he now only have one infant when he used to have 8 pre-teens, did he eat them? Or did they go off on their own to create their own princess kidnapping mayhem? We may never know... |
Beat Writer Posts: 152 Joined: 30 Apr 2008 | For Good, I'm going with one in Apollo Justice, Ace Attorney: Spoilers for the last case. Another good, and despite the heat i'll take for this .. Sephiroth. The villian you face in FF7 isn't the Sephiroth of Shinra. He's something else entirely, and very little remains of the man that everyone associates the name with, if you want to use the term "man" at all. A bright, powerful soldier who had the charisma, cool, and intelligence to climb the ranks and be a hero who was brought down when seeds of doubt (planted by Genesis Rhapsodos in Nibelheim) began to sprout and grow wildly once he read the reports of Professor Gast. Gast was wrong about his analysis of jenova, but being a man Sephiroth admired, his word was taken as the truth and that is what sent Sephiroth over the edge into a sea of maddness. That kind of stuff is fascinating to me, especially once you've gone through it enough to understand just what the hell happened. /geek As for the worst, in what I've gone through .. Ultimecia in FF8. Uhhh, just WHY did you want Time Compression (a ridulous concept in and of itself .. pretty sure the scenario team phoned it in at the eleventh hour, on that one) and ... what's with the speech impediment? Cool lady and everything, but ... whaaaaaaat the hell. Yeah, not cool. |

Meh Ganondorf: As awesome as he is in Twilight Princess, somehow being stabbed to death for the umpteenth time hasn't hindered his career for triforce grubbing. BAD The sorceress chick from Gladius. |

I think the only one who actually evolve in the Mario Universe is luigi. He used to be Mario's clone, then a smart guy, then a guy who piss in his pants. You have to admit it. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 116 Joined: 15 Aug 2008 | The Good: Kefka from FF6. I don't know why I like this guy so much, he's not really much more than the generic "I'm gonna destroy the world, because I can!" type of villain. There's just something about him I really liked. Maybe it's just because he was bat**** insane. The Bad: Darth Malak from KOTOR. Don't get me wrong, I loved that game to bits. But I hated him. You can just tell the developers were trying to make him like Vader. The robotic voice, the lines, but it all just made him seem more forced. "Your predecesor once made the mistake of questioning my orders, Admiral. Surely you are not so foolish as to make the same mistake?" Ugh, I just hate that line. The only time I kind of liked him was in the big twist, but otherwise, no. Honourable mentions are the Prophet of Truth and any RPG character who was once an ally, becomes an enemy, then becomes your ally again. |

That guy scared me, especially in those sequences where he tries to kill you if you do something wrong, like simply being near him. I did feel sorry for him in the end, though. Good: Darth Nihilius. He eats planets. That is all. HK-47(?) and GLaDoS. Robots/AIs with sarcasm and the love of seeing things killed are the perfect ingredients of a great villian. Atlas/Fontaine tied with Master Sun Li (Jade Empire)-Both characters betrayed me so unexpectly and efficiently that it took me a while afterward to realize what the hell just happened. Bad: Salazar. He doesn't ever do ANYTHING worth a flying shit. He just monologues and monologues and hides behind his much more awesome bodyguards. Pretty much every other villain in RE4 is cool, except him. I'll admit, when you finally do get to fight him it is hard, but I'll remember how long it was to get to that point. |

Master Li was a good villain, but the end fight was not so hot. The glorious master of strategy and every martial technique ever has absolutely NO defense/offense whatsoever against "Jade Golem", so turn into one and trample that old piece of snot into oblivion while laughing at his futile attempts to take even one hitpoint from you...:P |

Press Junketeer Posts: 397 Joined: 4 Sep 2008 | Oh boy oh boy, I really liked Desann. He just looked so cool, and had a cool voice. Also that game has a great twist, but thinking about it, the twist does lessen him as a villain somewhat? Anyone else who's played JK2JO agree? Also if there's a greatest heroes, I wanna vote Kyle. |

Good: GLaDOS (so awesomely sarcastic, and evil); Ganondork; All RE4 bosses; That Evil Scientist from TimeShift.
Bad: Dark Messiah's last boss (too goddamn easy); All Iron Man bosses (besides, the whole game was pissy easy, eye hurting, and overall crappy).
