COD4 On veteran was probably the toughest, but I don't play a lot of single player games so theres probably something harder out there.

Anyone who has never beaten Ikaruga or summer carnival 92' RECCA does not know the meaning of hard. Beating those games, I had to force myself not to blink and play till my thumbs went numb.

I found Gears of War on insane to be quite doable with the exception to a couple sequences where I had to restart so I could develop one strategy for that part which worked.

Also Halo 3 on Legendary with all skulls on is a bitch. Never been that pissed at a game.

- F-Zero GX

- Doom 1-3 on Nightmare including Doom 3īs Add-On.

Contra without the Konami code, Super Contra without the Konami code, Life Force without the Konami code, the Original Ghosts and Goblins for the NES, and Super Ghouls and Ghosts for the SNES. Those are the reasons I consider myself a hard core gamer.

Note: Beating Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 for the NES are also great accomplishments of mine :).

the question was, was it in japan mode?

probably Airman and Woodman in Rockman2 cause there was a video saying that Airman and Woodman couldn't be beat, i beat Woodman w/o using E-tanks

oh wait, this is about hardest game ever beaten, not achievements XD

probably playing Kamen Rider with my cousin, fun stuff XD
and yes, Airman's tornados are impossible to beat

God was Ikaruga hard, I bow to you sir.

I'm not very good at games, I can't think of a game I've beaten that was even remotely hard. Except maybe Bubble Bobble, that final boss was pretty annoying.

If you wanna talk about hard old school mega man games...play 3. dear god that game was a challenge. I HATED Shadowman, he is the very reason I HATE bunny hoppers in FPS games, play him if you don't know what I mean.

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts on the SNES...Okay well I never actually beat it but i'll share my story with you all since none of you want to hear it =P

So you go through the entire game, get to the final boss, kill him but wait! You didn't kill him with the randomly spawning secret weapon that sucks ass! So it spawns you all the way back at the first level, so me being the completionist that I am said fuck you game, i'll show you whos boss! So I proceeded to play through the entire game again, getting the secret weapon and I get to the last boss where a treasure chest spawned in front of me...I hit it on accident and it opened up and it swapped out the secret weapon with that shitty axe in it and I killed the final boss and it sent me back to the first level again...Yeah, I was pissed. Never again will I play that game.

I've beaten God of War 1 and 2 on all difficulties, so I guess that would be mine.

To the people who said they beat "I wanna be the guy" on very hard: No. No, you didn't. If you honestly did, then you deserve a trophy.

Rainbow Six: Vegas
I set the game to "Realistic"
7 Months later, I beat the campaign

The problem was there were these few moments when the battle was so rediculous, so huge, and utter devoid of save points that there was no way to get past it save repetition.

The worst offender was an intersection in the streets of Vegas. You started at the bottom of the "t", and worked your way up, as terrorists streamed down. The thing was, because it was "realistic", the most dangerous terrorists were the ones armed with a raging bull. It was a 1-shot kill, they could pull it off from anywhere, and nothing had me sitting in cover, praying as I desperately scanned for a tango, than the distinctive report of the raging bull.

Another standout is the theater level, which had so many failure conditions that I can't begin to describe them, all of them predicated, inexplicably, on my ability to shoot terrorists. "Why can't you just download the files faster? Why do the storage devices catch fire and auto-fail me when shot?". I ended up restarting that entire stage just so I could use smoke grenades to shield my very shootable hacker and his amazing, auto-fail inanimate object. Thank god it worked after a few tries, no thanks to my utterly useless "heavy weapons guy" teammate who would occasionally occuply the only serivicable cover (Because hiding behind the computer... would get the computer shot... would auto-fail!)

Did I mention this is all going down in a theater? I'm on stage, murdering the terrorist drama enthusiasts who try to end my play in the 2nd to last act.

"Surely, I am alone. Surely no sane player has gone this far. If the playtesters had gotten here, surely it'd be better? Right?"

I will not deny that it was very satisfying to finally beat that game. It had some brilliant moments that totally made up for its many flaws. Like the most hilarious easter egg, two terrorists chatting about a videogame where you play as a snowboarder who kills people by decapitating them with your razor-sharp board. And the only moving death scene I've ever played through, when you are clearing terrorists, it has become instinct, in the close quarters there is no time to think... and I pumped three rounds into the very person we were trying to rescue. I don't know how much psychological funneling went into that brilliant moment. The game knows he was shot by someone in our team. I know I shot him.

Not exactly a game, but oh well:
Champions Return to Arms: Soul Break Medailion round.

You get stripped of all your gear and are forced to navigate narrow corridors with very few means to defend yourself. The objective is to free 20 souls from cells, which are all over the level, whilst avoiding getting your ass handed to you by skeletons, ogres and somekind of fast little buggers shaped like worms.

Die once and you start from the beginning again.
Took me over 60 hours and about 100-120 tries.

Yeah I know him, oh god I do. He always seemed impossible to me without the specific boss weapon and one E-Tank.

But I still rememer MM1 to be harder then MM3 and the also very tough MM5.

EDIT: Oh snap, I just realized that nilcypher's avatar is the Ikaruga symbol.

I don't know what the big deal is with CoD4 being most people's hardest game to beat. OK, there are some very frustrating bits, particularly in Veteran, but it's not one of those impossible games. I mean, you can take three shots in the chest without dying and be regenerated a few seconds later. It's nothing compared to the single-shot deaths of some FPS games.

That said, I'm working my way through CoD4 again in Veteran, and it's the same spots which are kicking my ass.

Hitman 2 with all Silent Assassin ratings.

God of War 2 was a better designed game than GOW 1, and I realized it after I beat GOW2 on Titan difficulty and even getting the Titan ranking on it. Everything about it screams 100% perfection and balance. The combat is the greatest combat ever devised ever and probably will never be surpassed, because it takes more than just fancy graphics to make a game truly balanced. You need to playtest it rigorously and then playtest some more so that everything is flawless. The combat is the most satisfying of any 'hard' game I've ever played, because it's not hard due to bad game design (a la Ninja Gaiden, the worst offender of bad game design and overhyped overratedness in the history of games), it's hard because it's challenging and forces you to actually improve your skills in combat rather than find the easiest move that you can spam over and over until you reach victory (again, Ninja Gaiden). Not only that, you actually get exclusive goodies that are more than worth your while if you actually beat the game on the hardest difficulty, something not seen in any other franchise (oh sure, some games might give you an extra character skin that does absolutely nothing to the gameplay if you beat its hardest difficulty but who cares?).
