I found the Cherubs in Doom 3 to be really disconcerting. For some reason, I find the Manhacks from Half-Life 2 to be frightening as well, something about whirling blades a eye-level I guess.

Ah-ha! I've finally caught you!

I don't mind the manhacks. It's the fast zombies and their wails that scare the bajeezus out of me.

I remember one scary enemy. I was about..11 or 12 i think and i was playing Halo 2 now i don't get scared easily i mean back then i was watching 15, 18 movies and not getting scared too much in the slightest unless it was really intense
And the only time i've ever screamed during a game was when i was innocently walking around a corridoor of some kind (In Halo 2 still) and i turned around to see one of those slow waddling things with GIANT sacks of headcrab-esque flood things. I frikkin' screamed.

barnacles in half-life. They should fall off the ceiling when they die so i can kill them more.
And the tyrant from resident evil 2, i remember almost pissing myself when it kept breaking through the damn wall.

Those little monster bastards in Silent Hill 1's school. That scene in the locker room (the second time in the otherworld school) scared the living shit right out of me!

Any invisible enemy is scary, I personally hated the invisible enemies in Megaman legends because you could hear the slow walking sound they made, then your indicator would go red, then the running, then you get sucker punched by an annoying prick.

Oh wait!

I forgot the Chainsaw Man in the hedge maze in Castlevania 64. And his hounds.

For ages, whenever I heard a chainsaw sound effect.. Man. Bricks would be shat.

Yeah, he had a nasty tendency to pop out of nowhere and send me into panic mode. The first time I saw him, I was watching my brother play. It took us a while to figure out he was invincible and just there to make the hedge maze a LOT more stressful. That was sort of unexpected, since Castlevania as a series normally isn't about scary or high-tension moments. It was definitely a refreshing change of pace though.

I'm not alone! Yes!

Psychic controllers from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. They are just amazingly weird and strange. Sure they are easy to kill close up, but so annoying and all out weird with the brain hemorrhaging and loud roars.

Anything that comes and gets right up in my face gets a good hacking/shooting/fleeing in terror.

My scariest ones are so weak. The re-deads from Ocarina Of Time used to scare the crap outta me. And heres a real oldie, the rock guy from Alex the Kidd, y'know of the rock-paper-scissors bosses. He looked like the elephant man and used to freak me out something shocking.

The Butcher from Diablo 1. Even now he still conjures memories of me playing when i was 10 or so...the quote "AHHHH FRESH MEAT" still haunts me...

HOW could this thread have gone to five pages with no mention of Giygas?
He has no sprite. He has no character model. He is in the background. He IS the background. He is a shifting void. Red, black, green. A distorted, screaming face, that shifts back and forth, swirling like water. He surrounds you. The music doesn't help either. He is the embodiment of evil. He's a friggin' Lovecraftian horror. He gave me nightmares when Resident Evil bored me.

Giygas is terrifying. Truly terrifying. Virtually indestructible. Where the game would say "Zombie bites Paula!" or "Starman tried PK Starstorm!", it says "You cannot grasp the true nature of Giygas' attack" and suddenly half your party's dying, the other half in tears (literally). While there's no conversation with him, every attack is punctuated with dialogue inspired by the trauma of accidentally seeing a rape scene in a movie as a child (I am not making this up)

Oh, and all this in 16-bit.

Duriel's got nothing on this guy.

So much of the earlier part of Call of Cthulhu - especially that little girl crying in the sewers - that spooked the hell out of me. Being unarmed and pursued by axe wielding killers is pretty freaky too.

Repeating/agreeing some of the above, but these are the scariest enemies in gaming I have encountered

OoT - Agreed, ReDeads
RE1 - The dogs coming through the window
Bioshock - 1st Big Daddy you encounter
Dead Rising - Adam the Psycho-Clown's death (maybe I'm just Coulrophobic)
Alien vs Predator - Aliens when playing as human, in the dark, low ammo and flares with the motion sensor going crazy! perfick.
R6V2 - Seeing my brother's face in multiplayer. Brrr, still gives me nightmares.

When i was about 6 years old playing Starfox 64. I think it was Andross that scared me the most, a massive chomping head trying to eat you.

I scare easily, so bare with me.

-Every spider. Period. Especially a huge spider in some sort of semi 3d RPG (early 90's style). I wanted to close my eyes, but in order to move you had to click arrows on screen with your mouse, meaning you had to watch... I opted for the reboot button instead.

-Mimi in Super Paper Mario. Little bitch turning into a crude spider while I'm running around in a maze with her randomly appearing....

-Headcrabs, or anything small that jumps on your face in 1st person. I never played past the first one in Half-Life...which is about a minute after that reactor thing explodes.

-Octabrain in Duke Nukem 3D. Just. plain. scary.

-Phantom Ganon in the Forest Temple in LoZ:OoT. In retrospect the coolest boss I've ever beaten, but it brought back memories and nightmares of a scary book dealing with living things in paintings. The rest of OoT was no fun either with spiders littered around the world. Only made it to the water temple.

-The slicers in the original Prince of Persia (1989) which would cut you clear in half. I still close my eyes when I walk through them.

-AGI horror; the Sariens in Space Quest 1 which would kill you if you wandered around too long in the first space station. The witch in Kings Quest 2, whose cave you had to plunder and would eat you if she saw you doing it.

-Damn mud creatures in Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father. There you are, puzzling along when all of a sudden, creatures come walking out the walls. Damn you Sierra for putting reflexes in a point 'n click adventure.

-The Werewolf in Ecstatica. Chased you. Jumped on you from rooftops. Nearly impossible to kill. All the hints on the internet say: RUN!!

-Alone in the Dark. The first zombie walking up trough the trapdoor. It scared me shitless. I restarted and blocked the trapdoor only to have a flying creatures bashing trough the window. Panic. Reboot. deltree aitd.

Zombies from Half-Life 2, I was in that cave in uh, I think it was Water Hazard and one of them leapt out of the water next to the achievement-box-thing and I went "BAH!!!", They're kind of funny though (watch Zombie Happy Fun Time on Youtube :3).
Those children monsters in Silent Hill, They're one of the reasons I can't play that game.
Wallmasters from Ocarina of Time and also Re-Deads, they scare the crap out of me every time.
And Floormasters from Wind Waker, they're like Wallmasters only on the floor and harder to kill.
Bongo Bongo is annoying and scary as fuck, That weird white thing from the Kakariko well or Shadow Temple.

gives me nightmares to this day..
also in the first max payne, the nightmare levels where you have to follow the trail of blood and use the baby's cries to find your way :S
::ignores disturbing thought that comes to mind combining the two::
also for the record, never......under ANY circumstances, play resident evil:directors cut for the ps1 while on any hallucinogenic substances.....baaaaad juju

In no order:
the way's monster from Wheel of time (forgot about those)
the creepy clowns from Painkiller: BOoH
pretty much all of Doom 3
the butcher in Diablo (made me JUMP when I opened the door, and I was in college!)
the button pressing scenes in Jericho (ok, a LOT of that game makes you jump or at least go EWWWWW)

Second Dark Trooper I think it was, in Dark Forces. You know, the old Star Wars shooter that turned into the Jedi Knight franchise. Anyways, the way you were really in a maze and all you can hear is the clacks of that thing running around... Scary stuff.

More or less any enemy from Silent Hill (most of them have quite visceral design behind them...and then there are the undead nurses).

The robot animals from the original Sonic the Hedgehog, they had a constantly glazed over look about them which was quite menacing, like they were hiding something. That and the fact that when you blew them up...cute and cuddley animals flew out of them...oh the cruelty!

Facehuggers from AVP, I won't play as the marine anymore just because of this enemy. After walking into a med-lab in the second level I hear the sound of breaking glass and scuttling, I decide to back up a bit and turn my night vision on, my motion tracker is going mad and I pull out a smartgun just in time to see something flash up on my screen followed by the load game screen. I was twelve...it scared the bejesus out of me and killed me in one hit (apparantly the marine just sits there and lets the damn thing latch onto him).

Okay, i'm scared of Yojimbo in Final fantasy X because he can kill me by just letting his dog attack me and eliminates me just like a snap of your fingers.
anyway other than that im scared of the aliens/zombies in half-life/2 because they'll just jump on you and also the sounds that they make is just scary and im scared of them because....

........i dont want to die. obviously

They tend to remind me of the other Resident Evil creatures that scared the fuck out of me, the Lickers from RE2. One of the first encounters when you're in the interrogation room and it breaks through the window to attack you, almost shit my fucking pants! Then again, I was 11.

Oh man, the interrogation room thing terrified me to the point I had to run like hell to the nearest typewriter, save, then come back to carry on playing during the daylight. The best part was at the time I first reached that encounter, I was playing drunk with a few friends watching. I've never managed to recreate a scenario where four 17 year old guys are sat simultaneously screaming in terror at the TV.

You want to recreate that scenario, have a few drinks and sit your friends down to watch The View.

I literally just joined to post that comment, frivolity of my life.

Oh and my scariest enemy in gaming would have to be the gigantic screaming mummies with the swords from The Legend of Zelda: The Twighlight Princess. I hated that scream, and it completely incapacitated Link until the absolute last minute, and unless you were in wolf form and just had really good reflexes, it was always too late to do anything. I died so many times in the cave of ordeals trying to beat those guys.

Berserker's from Gears of War, sure they're not very good later on but the first time you see one you piss your pants, an indestructible enemy with nearly a one hit kill attack, what's not to be scared of?

Also, General RAAM, that guy was freaking scary the first time I went against him, mainly because the Krill were bad enough but they were also attached to a super death machine? No way hosay, I'm out.

Chainsaw guy in Resident Evil 4. My wife laughs at me because whenever I hear a chainsaw in that game my eyes get all wide.
