Although he is never mentioned before Ep.2, he is featured throughout the episode before you finally meet him in person towards the end. When he showed up, I immediatly thought "Oh yeah... that arrogant git who keeps telling me to hurry like I'm eight years old and late for school". That's pretty good character building IMO, the fact that I felt I knew who he was when I met him. *snip* *snip* Also, he has the casserole line. Which makes him inexpendable. |

/me disagrees. He was somewhat mentioned in HL1, and we didn't saw him in HL2, because he was in White Forest. Also, his toy is awesome, so I have no complaints :) |

Barney is so awesome that players would want to dump Alyx in favor of him. Seriously, I love the guy. He's the only character who has the guts to give Gordon a little sass. That line about Gordon using his degree in physics to push a button in the start of the game always cracks me up. |

I think the new person now is a mistake .Valve put him in too late, he could have easly been replaced by a better or current npc they could have even put an vortaguant insted of him.
