This is really tough, mine would probably change every thread, even if I posted in a thread like this once a week.
Right now, I'd have to list it as:
1. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess 2. Golden Sun: The Lost Age 3. Banjo Tooie 4. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood 5. Persona 3
I may like to play retro games from time to time, and I may be a bit of an older gamer than some, but I'm also one who firmly believes that the old days of gaming were not the "golden age" as some might protest. Games only get better with the technology available.
-The Orange Box (If I had to pick one game from the package for the list, it would be Half Life 2) -Halo:Combat Evolved -Call of Duty 4 -Star Wars Battlefront 2 -Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
1. Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2. Orange Box (whole) 3. Rayman 3 4. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory 5. DynaBlaster (awesome replayability! and that co-op action! )
I don't really have a favorite game because i enjoy so many but if i can only pick 5.
In no real order:
- Flying Corps (1996) - Command & Conquer (1995) - Company of Heroes (2006) - Grim Fandango (1998) <- Has a special place in my heart. - Half-Life (1998)
JayCro: 1. Fallout 2 2. Metal Gear Solid 3. Resident Evil 4 4. Diablo 2 5. Silent Hill
Wow. You must be shitting yourself with joy right now. Either that or thinking that you're about to have your heart broken. So either huge joy or pure dread.
1.System shock 2-Surprising because I have as much depth as a puddle, and act like a 5 year old hyped up on crack when I play shooters. 2.The legend of Zelda Ocarina of time-If this isn't on your list.Your parents just don't love you you. 3.Portal-very nice (Borat voice) 4.Bioshock-Because it was almost as scary as ss2 but next gen graphics, and very pretty water. O.O 5.Psychonauts-it was one of the most creative, and it was more like art than a video game.
1. No More Heroes 2. Grim Fandango 3. Deus Ex 4. Portal 5. Psychonauts
I think it's pretty obvious that I ended up here because someone I knew from a group of enthusiasts for at least one of these games recommended Zero Punctuation to me. I was very surprised to see Secret Of Evermore in one of the first replies though!
I've done this thread so many times before, but it's still hard.
i.) Final Fantasy VII ii.) World of Warcraft iii.) Deus Ex iv.) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night v.) Snatcher
Honourable mentions to more games than I care to list. Rez, Portal, SNK vs. Capcom Cardfighters Clash, Katamari Damacy, DDR, beatmania IIDX, Transport Tycoon, Street Fighter II, skate, and Nethack come to mind at the moment, but I'd still be leaving out maybe a hundred other games that are personally significant. I've been a gamer for 20 years now and I could easily do a top 100, never mind a top 5!
Out of all the games I've ever played... I must pick 5. That's pretty tough. I'm basing this purely on how much fun I remember having with it.
- Star Fox 64: I don't care how old it is and how many times I've beaten it, it's still fun.
- Guilty Gear XX: Cause I'm a fighting game whore.
- Chrono Trigger: And it's about damn time they decided to make it for the DS.
- Golden Sun: I don't even know how much time I spent playing this one, but it was a lot.
Hmmm.... one more. It's tough to choose!
- Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time: So much fun with this one. Plus it was lent to me by a friend who told me to try it after I actually made fun of him for playing it, and then I got addicted to it. So this game taught me not to be such a judgmental ass. Thanks Link!
Do you guys have to just make lists? Come on, it's not that hard to write a couple of lines to actually justify your picks. It makes the thread much more interesting to read and also might keep it from getting locked by a not-so-amused mod.
Top 5 lists are hard for me, so I'll just limit it to three, since that's much easier:
3. Half-Life 2 The best thing with HL2 is that it's so varied. While other FPS are usually the same thing all the way through, either they go the horror route, or do the team-based war routine, or the standard corridor shooter... HL2 says fuck that and does em all. You can't get tired of this game because everytime you think you know what's going on, a new type of gameplay emerges. It goes from a frantic hovercraft chase in a canal, to zombie survival horror to unleashing a horde of monsters unto unsuspecting soldiers. Totally awesome.
2. Metal Gear Solid The first game in the series is still my favorite. The story is the best I've ever seen in a game, not as convuluted as later titles, but everything fit and the long cutscenes were gripping and never boring. Even after multiple play-throughs I still watch the cutscenes, which I just skipped in the sequels. The pace of the game is also fantastic - just when you're getting a bit tired of sneaking, there's a boss fight, or another type of event. And the VR missions had tons of replayability, trying to break your own record time was fun in a very old-school way.
1. Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne People don't get it, this game is so much more than an RTS. The truly unique combination of RPG and RTS makes the battles feel much more personal and immersive than those epic ones with a thousand nameless faceless soldiers in other RTS games. The campaign was always exceptional, with varied missions and a good story (before WoW came in and completely ruined the lore). But the best part of Warcraft 3 is the editor. Incredibly easy to use, it allows you to create just about any type of map you want to make, and there are so many out there that there's always something new to do. Everyone knows Dota, but that's just one in literally thousands of maps, ranging from tower defenses and rpgs to snake clones and racing games.
I used to play this game everyday for four years. I'm not as fanatical as I was a year ago, but I still have a great time whenever I play, and I doubt I will ever find a game with so much fun and so much lasting appeal ever again.
It's incredibly difficult for me to pick out a list like this, largely because I don't buy bad games (mostly), therefore a large amount of my collection is in contention for these places. The first three are cemented in place, but the last two are often mutable.
1: Half-Life 2 2: Fallout 3: System Shock 2 4: Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis 5: Call of Duty 4
However, there are so many more that made the shortlist, so to save time, I'll have to say that the shortlist was at least half of my game collection, including such venerable classics as Golden Sun, Red Alert 2, Gran Turismo 4 and Portal, among many others.
-Resistance: Fall Of Man -Metal Gear Solid 4 -Majoras Mask -God Of War II -Hitman: Blood Money
Some other high rankers include: -Ratchet and Clank: Up your Arsenal -Heavenly Sword -Conkers Bad Fur Day -Metal Gear Solid 3 -Shadow Of The Collosus -Half Life 2 -Bioshock -Golden Sun: The Lost Age -Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Altorin: Chrono Trigger - I spent 6 hours in a rental place waiting for this game to come back, to the point that the employees actually booted me from the premises for loitering. That's how good this game is. When it was lost from that rental store, and the box was ALWAYS there and out, I cried every time I went in.
Link to the Past - I have beaten this game 100% several times, on both the SNES and the GBA, got 0 deaths on both systems 100%, and there are still some bosses and dungeons that make me sweat.
Super Metroid - This game has the best atmosphere of any game on the SNES, and the voice acting at the beginning just sets the tone so wonderfully, conveying real emotion in a time when most voice acting was "Round 1! Fight!'. I have NOT gotten 100% on this game, even after years of playing it, it has some tricks to it that still are difficult. Huge boss fights, an awesome ending, magnifique.
Final Fantasy IV - IMO, best story in a Final Fantasy. It has several cliches in it, but there are some real twists in it that still make me smile. There isn't much about this game that I DONT like, except maybe farming tails.
Final Fantasy VI - I bought this game for 90 dollars in a time when I got 6 dollars a week for an allowance. I'm not going to say anything more then that.
1. battlefield: bad company (360) mainly because its the first FPS im actually any good at online 2. Oblivion: the elder scrolls (360) so much stuff to do from killing ogres to stabbing the homeless not to even mention the guilds 3. burnout paradise (360) just amazing graphics and online play is really good nothing like doing a double barrel roll infront of some n00b's 4. war of the monsters (PS2) just a good beat em up funny as hell with your mates aswell nothing as entertaining as throwing your best mate into a bath of acid ( power plant level ) 5. halo 3 it was my first ever shooter that i played online and by god did i play it good memories or speeding around sandtrap in a warthog with my 4 mates
so there you have it my list of games there the ones i could really think of at the moment though i find it hard to put all of my best games into order
REDH4MMER: From this thread you can see that there are either a lot of young gamers or people that are new to gaming.
Or graphic whores like me!
Hey, I have Nethack in my list, and maybe I should have mentioned that I use no tile sets or any other add-on like falcon's eye. I love the game in original ASCII beauty. :D
-Resistance: Fall Of Man -Metal Gear Solid 4 -Majoras Mask -God Of War II -Hitman: Blood Money
