That would make this even harder than it already is. -The Baldur's Gate series: I don't care if it's really two games and a pair of expansion packs, to me it's all one long game. And what a game. The well written dialogue, the epic, engaging story. The graphics, while low res, featured incredibly detailed scenery and well animated character models. The depth is incredible, with an amazing amount of replayability. If you like RPG's, you really owe it to yourself to play through the saga at least once. -Final Fantasy 7: Better than 6, he says? Yes, I say. 6 was a brilliant game, but the huge cast and chopping about left me with less of an emotional attachment to any of them. But Cloud, Barret and Tifa gripped me the second that riduculously large sword and hair spike with a body attatched leaped off that train for a spot of the old eco terrorism. The materia system remains my favourite magic/equip system, as it doesn't specifically shoehorn characters into their party roles, making them a little more fully fleshed than "dude, she's got a dress and she's a wimp. That's our healer!" -Deus Ex: The finest FPSRPG, Shodan be damned (not that System Shock 2 wasn't excellent). The thing that draws me back to Deus Ex is how immersive the whole thing is, where bits of the environment that aren't at all necessary to the game, like your office, the apartment block, the stores in Hong Kong, are so well realised and fleshed out. Nothing feels tacked on, so nothing ever catapults you out of the experience. The story itself is very linear, but the journey is so variable depending on your play style that I challenge you to care. -Grim Fandango: Grim Fandango holds the honour of being the only adventure game that I have played through more than once. Deeply intelligent and amusing, the film noir atmosphere of the game is so rich it's easy to get lost in it, and the puzzles are never ridiculous or illogical, so theres no need to use the frog on the laser cannon or whatever just to advance. Sublime. -Fallout: Just Fallout 1 this time. Not a particularly technically proficient game, the atmosphere and the quality of the writing makes up for the bad combat at completely unbalanced character creation options. The black humour was also excellent, and while my love of retro futurism is reflected in my love of Bioshock and Resistance, Fallout is the pinacle of that art. Fallout 2, however, is simply nowhere near as good. Combat and character creation remained unfixed while they added shockingly techincally poor companions, the story simply wasn't as good, and the temple of trials is a bit of a sick joke unless you happen to be playing a cross between a paramedic and bruce lee. Worst, however is the attempts at humour. While Fallout's was mature and subtle, Fallout 2 seems to have been written by an eleven year old who thinks getting to be a post apocalyptic porn star is hilarious and that anything can be improved by quoting the holy grail totally out of context. Rant mode off,if you like CRPG's, get the first one, you'll love it. |

Ocarina of time and FF7, still the greatest games ever made IMO) |

GTA: Vice City
Sonic Jam (because of all the 2d classics)
