I tried EVE on one of my buddies two accounts, and now my character is around 12,000,000 skill points. He's doing well. We've just been mining whores lately, he mines with and I haul, and it works out pretty well, at least so far as to be able to buy skills/ships/outfit them. I do enjoy the game as is, but I can see some things where it could be better:

EVE using a Freelancer style combat would be much more preferrable.

Tweaking the skill system so that you don't learn at the same rate offline as online. I would rather it be less of a "time based" game. I would like skills I used, if I had them activated, would go up at a faster rate or some such thing. Or a mentor program where someone could "teach me" the skill, making the skill go up at a higher rate than normal. Or implement multiple systems. There should be something done to improve skill learning rate.

I would like to be able to customize the ships, at the very least having a paint scheme and you corps logo on the side with the name of the ship would be nice. Optimally I would like to be able to "design" ships, using parts that differentiate the races, so that you can make your own class of battlecruiser or some such thing.

Other than that, I'd have to say that EVE has come the closest to being a "perfect" MMO. I wish more MMOs would take a few chances to try something different for a change rather than all emulating WoW and trying to steal the same customers...

I totally dig that ship customization idea. Man, wouldn't it be nice.

Two years and counting here. I love the backstory and RP scene. Factional warfare is great, too.

I think everyone in EvE would like to be able to customize the paint job of ships and even create your own ships from scratch, but CCP is busy with Ambulation for the time being.

First point - No no no. That would lead to grinding. Which is whatmakes EVE so unique, nowadays, it's grindless.

Second point - Also no. Porn and moderation. I'd much prefer some skinning competitions, where you design a skin for a ship, and it might get put in the game. (Obvious)

Eh..I really did find the game new and intuitive when I first heard about it. It was really fun during my trial time. I played it for about 2 weeks and then I just really didn't care. It was fun, but I never had a big goal in my mind. In most MMO's you have a certain goal and you know what to do. But in EVE I just found myself going through more and more quests and I had no idea what to do. There is so much to do with the game's gameplay mechanics but I just found it confusing. I never really found out who I could shoot down, or who I could go up against. I never really had to much fun.

i partially like eve (its in space!). But a few things about it annoy me:

1) mining should not be that dull. ever.
2) While the skill system is quite cool, after a while i realised it just means those playing the longest have such an advantage over the others (while true in most MMO's, its just moreso in EvE)
3) the science part of my brain screams out in pain. The distances/travel speeds are so horribly unreal. the noob ships travels at less than mach 1 (if memory serves me right they go 250m/s ish)....waaaay to slow, but thats a very minor knitpick.

Yeah, at most it's 14 euros a month, not 14 quid...

You mean at least, and also, do the seasonal subcription over paypal and paybycash, and that makes it just less than £10 a month.

I found the trial fun but I hate monthly fees in mmorpg's.

You are a silly silly bitch.

No, I mean at most. Monthly fee is 14.99 euro's and it's not going to get any more expensive that that.

Saying it's at least 14 euros a month then telling is it can be less than 10 quid a month is rather counter-intuitive.

And insults are not nice. Not nice I tell you.

Any game that feels like work, especially one that has monthly fees, doesn't appeal to me.

Apparently you have never done the missions to raise standings, nor have you done mining to get minerals.

Nothing is grindless, it's just how well a game covers grind that makes it good. I don't think implementing ways to alter your learning speed would lead to grinding the way we look at it. I would like the game to be less passive time-based, and have an incentive to actually play the game.

The second point, the game needs customization of some sort. I'm not for the running around in a space station thing they are working on now, as the game is not about the character, but the ship you pilot, which is why being able to make that ship your own so that your Rifter doesn't look like every other Rifter would be nice.

I don't like it.

It's really unintuitive and confusing at times.

Also, I don't understand the point of having a skill-based "leveling system" when you don't actually have to do anything.

The ship controls seem alright, but I'd rather have a system like this in a sort of Star Trek mmo with more than one person in the ship. When you're alone in a ship, manual controls are so much more interesting.

Overall though, it's not terrible (interface is though). It's original, but at heart it's just another turn based game with the illusion of real-time.

(other)

I've never played it, so I can't say whether I enjoy it or not. I would LOVE to check out the free trial, but the amount of time I hear people sink into this game means it is something I do not have time for. :(
