I'd say TLoZ: The Wind Waker, It was a good game but I was disappointed that there was no Water Temple, instead the big fish just GIVES the pearl to you, plus there was too much faffing about like collecting Triforce shards and maps. Still a good game though.

No More Heros was way to short.

I have to completely agree. It's unfortunate that the story is way twisted as well. I remember finishing the game, going "Huh?" and then playing it three more times with the same response to the storyline. xD Maybe it's just a Suda 51 thing...

Anyone else feel that Zelda: Ocarina of Time was a tad short? It's easily beatable in a day, even with all the side quests and what not.

Also, Assassin's Creed, Too Human, and all the Metal Gears are just a few others that I wish were longer. =[

Way of the Samurai for PS2. OK, It wasn't the greatest game ever. You could play the game in tons of different ways leaving room for tons of replays. I just wanted it to be longer...

I don't mind games being short. Often a game is short, not because the developer is lazy or wants to rip you off, but because they've put so much effort into it to ensure that every second is amazing, rather than just repeating things to make the game longer. I'd much rather play a game like this (e.g. COD4, Metal Gear Solid) than one which starts off promising but then just keeps on repeating itself (e.g. Half Life 2).

Twilight Princess. It's not the length, but the fact that it's so easy, which in turn makes a big game last for little time, which was a tear jerker as i watched ganondorf be slain.

the portal game was way to short, played and beat it over
at my friends house and said cool and asked when the
real game came out,he replied what? He had a confused look
on his face and I realized i hadn't just beat a demo,
then realized it was way too long for a demoo

then the depression lol

If portal where any longer it would be repetitive.

Anybody ever played Shadow of The Colossus?
First time i played it I said, " wow this game is awesome,
it even has great graphics for the ps2" so i played the game
and beat it...........in about 3 and a half hours total,
which was about one evening. This drove me crazy because
it was such an awesome game in my opinion, but it being so short just
ruined it. Any body else ever experienced this in a game?

I didn't think it was that short and to be honest you either cheated in the extreme to complete it that quickly or there's a bit of exaggeration on your part. It's one of the best games I've ever played and it was almost perfectly balanced in every area.

That said, there are some criminals in the length aspect I've had the poor choice to pay for. Max Payne is the original time bandit, although Prey was disgustingly short too, coupled with a ridiculously easy game anyway...just wasn't worth the entrance fee or the effort.

I remember reading an article where it was proposed that perhaps shorter games are not such a bad thing, they're still cost effective compared with some other lesiure pursuits, and if the game is of a good standard this shouldn't be a problem. Also, they pointed out that some games really overstay their welcome and pad out in ridiculous ways, I think MGS was the first time I noticed this when I had to return through half the game to get the sniper rifle, a pointless move since the game was pretty long anyway. I'm sure we can all name a game that could do with snipping a few hours off the play time. But that's another thread entirely...

well, as far as sections, ACTS 3 and 5 in MGS4 were way too short, especially act 5: one area, then boss-fight, then cutscenes to the end. WTF!!

Beneath a Steel Sky and the original Call of Duty.

Bioshock didn't feel that short to me, but I was playing it in half-an-hour to an hour bits because I spent too much time surfing the internet rather than playing it. Also, I still haven't completed Twilight Princess for some reason or another - probably because my TV remote is out of batteries, leading to a frustrating setup for the game.

I didn't think Shadow of the Colossus was that long. That being said, I like my games short but sweet.

I think if a game ensures you play it over more than once, it isn't subject to the rule, or whatever people say.

But 3 hours with SotC? I did it in about 7-8 hours minimum. I wouldn't say I was the best gamer inthe world but not the worst either.

I would say 'Klonoa: Door To Phantomile'. It's not too short, but it wasn't too challenging either.

Xenogears disk 2 had to be cut down due to budget/time so it could have been even better if not for those restraints.

I agree with all the SotC comments.

There is nothing bad about having a game be "short". Think about it, despite our nostalgic past on playing games and remember that games like metroid and kid icarus would not be beatable without passwords. Most games like clu clu land, ice climbers, mario bros.(not super) were actually short to play and beat in nature, or had no real ending and you can just play and play until you tire of it or your lives in the game run out.

If anything I would make an arguement that games that are short are good BECAUSE they are short. A game like Portal, Kung Fu, racing, and Kirby games were fun because they did not take multiple days to beat you sat down, played the game and then got back up and moved on with your life. I would like to think that everyone who might get burnt out on games like myself really need to play now and again to realize that not all games are going to take me years and stack up on you like they own you. I have over 9 games of gamecube and wii games to beat and I do not see myself even wanting to beat them becuase of how little time I have versus how long they will take.

I am thankful for short games because they are usually very focused, well done, and are short where a development team creates the game with the best intention but does not want to go back and linger trying to release more content. Having content released in many console games I find to be quite contradictory, a completed game should not force good programmers and developers to spend their time working on a game that was supposed to be completed. I want my programmers and developers to move on to the future and not linger on the past unless it is truly warranted like the MMO genre.

Very true - STOP SAYING PORTAL PEOPLE! - if portal was much longer it would have been boring.

i fully understand having a game thats really short and it still be an instant favorite if the player,(i've beaten metal gear solid 3 almost 9 times) but it just seems like in some
games the developers try to take shortcuts across parts that could have maybe been
some of the best parts in the game, and they prolong the most boring parts in the
game to where you want to cut off your hands with a jagged fingernail
( the triforce piece collecting sequence in Loz-wind waker, what was
up with that #@%$ ?) i just wish game developers would better focus
on the tedious parts and add some kind of flair or originality to
them that would make them fun even though they're repetitive or
tedious. (is that too much to ask?)

Super Metroid. If you are really dayum good you can beat it in less than three hours. In fact it rewards you for doing so.

Whenever I try I clock in at about 4 hours and three minutes average (Damn Miridia)

one of my friends beat it in three hours on his forth time and i looked at him weird his mom hates him playing his game boy. i played it and beat it in 6hrs which makes me feel ashamed

halo 3 and metroid prime 3. first off i hate the halo series because it seems to complicated and i only played it because the guy who owned it was bored to death although i loves the vehicle section that was awesome. and metroid prime 3 because i beat it in 13hrs!!! the second was a filler and it was very hard and i can't explain the first cause i got to the phazon mines then my friend wanted the game back.

Halo is too complicated for you? There's nothing complex about it...it's "Point, Shoot, Kill."

i know i meant the story i get the run shoot throw grenade then hijack enemy car and picks up your friend at other base

The story is incredibly simple actually. If you play them in order (CE, then 2, then 3 as should be obvious) you'll understand it quite quickly. The story could be summarized in a paragraph or two actually.

Regardless, the story was incredibly short. only about 9 hrs. max on gametime.

Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun. You can play a full grand campaign in 15 hours, by far the shortest game in its genre.

Freelancer was way to short, it has the most epic intro of a game, it has one of the best stories i'v played (yes even better than the Halo story and Portal) only problem is it's easy completed in under 2 hours :( oh well, at least the multiplayer part is infinte...

Add "Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge" (the one on the X-Box)
I'm still waiting for a sequel to that one, dammit >.<

Also I don't think the surface of the disk was even scratched for any of the .hack games from the original series. Even an extra five hours on each disk (there's four in all for whatever reason, though I'm sure it could all have fit on one >.<) would have made it more worth it to hunt down each game. Some sidequests, better graphics, or something... still one of my favorite series for its intuitive storyline, and that the gameplay is playable (unlike some "action" RPGs).

uuuhh... I think that's it o.o

EDIT:

Um... I never really saw much of a story behind Halo O.o If there was, it was lost in the gunfights and bad control scheme >.>

I really, really enjoyed The Darkness, even though it didn't have the best gameplay mechanics. It did something very different, had a GREAT story, brilliant art direction, and superb voice acting. The Darkness powers were pretty damn cool too. It was one of those games that you really got attached to.

Alas, I rented it and beat it in about 7 hours. I really need to pick it up again, it was a load of fun while it lasted

I agree, it had an incredible story, complete with fantastic Darkness powers to liven up an otherwise run-of-the-mill FPS. In Chapter 5 it felt pretty cheap to use the Black Hole rinse-repeat strategy - run out, fire, hide in darkness, repeat. Not to mention launching people into a wall with your tentacle, then eating their heart.

Metal Gear So-...

Oh, shortest game.

I'd say that Ninja Gaiden was entirely too short, although all that dying I did somehow extended the game to a normal one's length.
