I think he's in the wrong thread. This isn't "what makes a douchebag?"
dude! Over there it is HIP to game! If you have a date, you can actually go to a internet cafe (Korea) or arcade hall (Japan)! (or even better, find a date there!) Sure wish that was more common over here ^^
Yeah, but that doesn't mean Korean = gamer. It's not a negative stereotype, but I still hate it when people say ignorant douchebaggy statements like that.
Heh I thought you said "Korean = douchebag" ^^; >.>
I wouldn't agree with it, I would just say a gamer is someone who regularly plays games.
My aunt who spends many hours per week playing word/puzzle/zuma games to death but wouldn't know where '3D' stands for? I wouldn't call her a gamer, and neither would she.
On the other hand, a person who would play casual games only (browser, wii, ds) but knows all about upcoming releases, development, companies, and hangs around on casual game forums? That would be a gamer to me, so simply saying "casual games don't count" wouldn't do it <.<
It depends. Some people walk up to me at my friends store and usually tell me. "I play Madden, I'm a gamer right?" Usually when something like that happens I want to punch them in the face. To be a gamer you usually have to be playing more than one genre for me to consider you a gamer.

Also racing and sports games don't count.
Yeah, I'm sure that there's Madden players constantly coming up to you attempting to gain 'gamer status approval'.
to me a gamer is somebody who enjoys playing games with good game play and they generally want to get better at the game. For instance i own a PS3 and i don't own MGS4 because if i wanted to watch a movie i'd watch a movie when i wanna play a game i play TF2 or COD4 but i don't playgames that are all cutscene.

When working at a gamestore you'd be surprised how many people expect to give you discounts because they are a gamer.
"I Play madden. I'm a gamer too. Gimme an employee discount!"
I think it's simplyif you have interest in games. Not just Nintendogs or Solitaire or Minesweeper or Bejeweled. Something with more elements than that.
I'd like to qualify, though, that I don't mean you should play mainstream games like FPS's or RPGs. I'd consider you one if you play Guitar Hero or The Sims (but not exclusively).
I think people use the term gamer too loosely. If you are in college and own a 360, and play Halo 3 occasionally, but still make fun of the "nerds", you are no fucking gamer.

Oh, you WORK there, i misunderstood. People really ask for discounts on the basis that they're a gamer? That's like asking for a discount at a grocery store on the basis that you too eat food.

I don't usually work there I help out I work right next to them at the theater but goddamn.. So many people just walk in and are like "Help a gamer out, yo." and parents goddamn parents. If you refuse to sell a M rated game to a child You will NEVER hear the end of it. It still haunts me.

I've always had the idea of a gamer as being someone who has a passion for the hobby and just enjoys playing video games to have great experiences. I know that most people, like the ESA, consider a gamer to be anyone who plays video games, whether they play five hours a day or play solitare on their computer for a couple times a month, but I don't consider most casual "gamers" to be actual gamers.
Answers. com defines a gamer as:
"One who plays a game, especially a role-playing or computer game."
