Gone Gonzo Posts: 2993 Joined: 22 Aug 2008 | Whichever one you prefer. My brother and I both own 360 Elites (the 120 HDD black ones) and neither have red ringed or had any problem so far. He's had his a few months longer than I have. Got mine back in...may? I think. If you pick up an Elite, don't be too worried about getting any problems and it red ringing. I've not played a PS3 extensively yet, so I can't really recommend it, and recommending a 360 would be blatantly biased. Check out the game selection, the controls, the media and online capabilities and make your choice from there. |

Also what people say about PS3 having better graphics is utter bullshit. It's exactly the same except for the slightly different color filter: gray for PS3, brownish gray for 360. That's it. Also, I hear PS3 is rather fragile, so it's not something you would want in a household with kids. This problem aside, I'd still pick 360 over a PS3 any day due to the variety of games available. Achievements significantly increase the life of a game as well. User was banned for: Favorite Easter Egg?. (30 days) |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1519 Joined: 18 Sep 2007 | What if they held a console war and nobody came? Edited to add: If you're genuinely looking for purchasing advice, the best advice I can give is to look at the titles available to each console; pick the one that has the most titles you want to buy. There's no "best" console out there, save in the minds of each's respective fanbois. This generation, we're blessed with four valid platforms. Enjoy the variety that brings while you can! -- Steve |

I think this should color your decision quite a bit. Honestly, I think most of the bugs are worked out of the 360 by now so it's safer at this point to purchase one. But, I'm a bit biased as a 360 owner. |

Like I said before, you want to have what you're friends have. The purpose being LAN parties and game borrowings. |

The "breaking" problem you are referring to is known as the Red Ring of Death. While this problem still persists, the newer models have taken great strides to eliminate this problem. If you buy a new one and keep it well ventilated, you shouldn't have a problem. Get the 360. It has a better library of games and you can play online with all your friends, assuming they have 360s. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 85 Joined: 20 Aug 2008 | I think the best advice here is from Anton P. Nym, look at games from each console, whoever have more that you like, go with them! In my personal opinion however, the 360 would be my choice given your dilemma. Looking upon what's been happening to the PS3's exclusives, the 360 would have my choice in being cheaper and having games I want. Not to mention that your friends have 360's, so when you get Live you will be able to play games with them on the internet. Just my 2 cents, i have neither console so i guess my opinion's pretty unbiased as well :) NOTE:Beware the fanboys bound to plague this thread, they are coming.... and they are coming with haste... |

That's unnerving, a cursory glance suggests that the Original Poster said this. |

I disagree with the games part, but yeah, if your friends have 360s get that. Shooting shit is just more fun when you have an overeager man-friend roaring in your ears, right? ;) |

Of course it all depends what you want it for, if you're a technology buff like me there's no choice to be made, PS3 all the way. If you want a good selection of games the received wisdom appears to be that the 360 is the better choice. |

Same avatar, different screen name and post count. I'm influenced to say different people, though this is one of the reasons why I refuse to use the stock avatars. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 113 Joined: 19 May 2008 | it all depends on what type of games you play really the 360 has more games out but most are for specific genres whereas the PS3 has a stronger field in the genres not populated by the 360 note i took great strides not to name what genres |

Copy Clerk Posts: 78 Joined: 29 Jun 2008 | Its about the games and online services. Xbox live is the best online service but it costs.playstation network doesn't work as well but is free. 360 gets games like fable 2, gears of war 1/2, bioshock, halo 3 etc. PS3 has MGS4, haze, resistance 1/2, uncharted drakes fortune etc. It's all about which games you want really... P.S. the PS3 version of soul calibur 4 gets darth vader, the 360 version gets yoda, but no one really cares... |

Xbox Live is not superior enough to warrant the extra $5 a month. Also, the Gears franchise is undoubtedly coming to PC along with Halo 3. BioShock is already there and coming to PS3 soon. Also for PS3 you forgot to mention Ratchet and Clank. And how could you use Haze as a selling point? |

LOL... the 360 is "baseline"? That's rich. The only notable hand-up the PS3 has is a blu-ray player and to wit, the only effect that has on the PS3 as a gaming platform, is a bad one (longer seek times vs DVD).

Actually I did a little more research than that, which you probably ought to have done yourself before popping up in an attempt to debase my opinion and intelligence. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2006/feb/10/willbluraybe The PS3 drive is 2x. Oh, sorry. |
