Hardly surprising that Wrath is announced simultaneously with WAR launch, certainly. But... which game are you going to be playing?

(If you "don't plan to play any of them" and/or "hate MMOs", don't reply unless you have something actually interesting to say on the subject, K?)

I've been betaing Wrath and I was in the WAR beta. I think WAR is getting more attention than it warrants. It's an MMO. It's quite good, but by no means "unique", "incredibly good" or anything of the sort. It also does not "suck the most". It's an MMO, quite average. Graphics are OK, gameplay has some nice tweaks you might love or hate, some seem to think the lore is somehow "better" and less maimed...

Wrath is more WoW. We all know this to be true, so let's not pretend we don't. There are tweaks, there is added polish. It's a good, albeit dated, game, you know what to expect and you ARE going to get it. The graphics aspect will certainly be more appealing to me, less new-age pink crystals and more dark, twisted metal and stone in the armor design. The new class has a very good starting area (seriously. The starting area is AMAZINGLY well done for Death Knights), but I don't particularily like the class itself and will not be playing one.

As for my answer, I will play both and see what strikes my fancy, but Wrath is in a MAJOR lead after what I've seen thus far. Some of my friends are swearing by WAR, claiming that they're never ever going back to WoW and thank GOD for something else being released that blows it away... after having played it for what, almost three days? Optimistic. They did say the same about Age of ConannzzzZzZzZ... so I guess we'll see.

The games aren't really that different. One recurring argument is the lore side of it though. How Warhammer has a strong connecting lore and will not allow it to be diluted. I have three words for you guys... Dark Elf Sorcerer. Now I'm not that big a Warhammer geek, but... I seem to recall a very specific lore point with regards to the Dark Elves being that males with the capacity for sorcery are killed at birth, because the tyrannic Witch King has been given a prophecy who says that a male sorcerer of his own race shall kill him... But when Mythic said "but but, we didn't know and we made a model for male sorcerer and it looks like SO COOL", Games Workshop caved, and lo and behold, male Dark Elf Sorcerers.

Given that, I just don't buy the lore argument. Their lore is based on the same shit, one is OLDER. OLDER does not equal BETTER. In fact, heaps and loads of the Warhammer source material is written by no-talent hacks. Other loads are sto... BORROWED from good authors... I remember seeing in one of the sourcebooks in particular a short story by Edgar Allan Poe with names Search-Replaced... plagiarism is what that is called, ladies and gentlemen. The Warcraft Lore is actually, according to me, more coherent in total, and most retcons are quite artfully done. However, it's still barely qualified as pulp fiction. Neither of the backstories have much in the way of artistic merit.

So meh, what's your choice? Personally, as I said... Wrath of the Lich King seems by far the most promising of the two.

Warhammer Online for me, though I may not be playing it for quite some time. Its bringing a slightly newer and fresher change about and the Warhammer community seems generally nicer.

(Ps. You spelt Wrath of the Lich King wrong on the poll question. Not sure if you can change that but just pointing it out.)

... but WarHAMSTER didn't strike you as odd in any way?

Hint: may have been deliberate.

Haha, sorry I made a fool of myself there. I am too much of a quick reader, I only really find spelling mistakes or notice the odd bit towards the end of sentences or whatever I am reading.

Warhammer for me. I really hope they don't mess up the city evolution thing though. That's one of the major points that attracted me to it. I've always wished WoW had something like that, where player actions actually matter in terms of what the world is like. Hopefully it will be like advertised in Warhammer; if not, then I'll out some cash. Should be decent at least though.

If you are looking for a game focusing on player based changers, check out Darkfall. Its a upcoming MMORPG that seems to have some huge potential.

Ummm, i've played WoW, and its nice. I also like the look of WAR.
I just wanted to point out one thing, "Games Workshop caved". Right they've never done that b4 have they. (sarcasm)
The original Warcraft game was a joint project of Blizzard and Game Workshop. Games Workshop backed out at the last minute. But due to court ruling w/e they could use the game just had to change story a bit etc"

Oh and the approach to cities and guilds is nice. And the focus on pvp.

I'll vote WAR atm, since i a bit tired of WoW.

I was using that as an example to point out that those who believe that "the lore will be kept under strict control so it's going to be ever so much better than WoW on that basis" are either full of the figurative excrement or high on exciting and strongly mind-altering substances.

im stuck between the two. One has more evolution and progession- a dwarves beard will grow with each level- while the other is more appealing and gives me a whole new class. I like the class even if some dont

I don't DISLIKE it as such, I just don't think it's all that great. Other things are tempting me far more.

As these things go, I'll definately give WAR a try, more so if they provide something akin to a free download + trail. But I'm sticking with the Lich King and WoW for now, I really can't afford to be playing multiple MMOs all over the place, and paying full price on release for something I may not like is a no no, Age of Conan burned me bad on this front, and I'm sure that I will like Wrath of the Lich King.

I've played WoW through level 45, and WotLK doesn't look to offer anything at all that will draw me back in. In fact, WotLK doesn't seem to offer anything to any WoW players who aren't already 60 and chomping at the bit for new content.

I also tried Warhammer during their beta, and though it has some good ideas I wasn't terribly impressed overall. It felt a lot like WoW, but also seems very rough right now. I'm not going to pick it up at launch, but later on when they start releasing free trials I might jump in and give it another shot. I really enjoyed DAoC, so we'll have to see if WAR turns out to be similar.

For now, I'm going to keep on playing LOTRO (lifetime subscription = awesome), and I'll definitely be picking up the Mines of Moria expansion in November.

Time will tell for Warhammer. I didn't rush into WoW when it launched, same as I haven't rushed into any MMO on launch day. I will give it time, and if it stands the test of that, I might check it out. As it stands, I will be playing WoW:WotLK.
