I'd like to know why people think the Halo series and Gears of War series are good games.

That's your opinion to think they're not good games. I think they're good games personally. Hell, I'm willing to bet you have at least one game that you consider good that I would consider to be bloody awful.

See? It's all opinions, PersianLlama.

True, but I want to know what about them that makes you think they're good, not simply "It's my opinion".

Because Halo was great when it first came out, and Gears of War has a amazing storyline along with unique game play. What's your reason why you don't think they're good, not simply "It's my opinion".

Halo:
Terrible storyline
Sheild system blows
Easy
Short
*On the plus side, I have a thing for the warthog for some reason.

Gears of War:
Too much steroids
Terrible Storyline
Third Person Shooter
Regeneration
Easy
Short

OK, Silent Hill: Homecoming was supposed to come on steam on release date...but it didn't...

Then I see that LEGO: Batman actually met it's deadline and everyone who is playing it is having no trouble with the game (performancewise).

So...how does a Multimillion dollar franchise like Silent Hill not meet it's deadline, but friggin' LEGO does?

Halo:
Derivative story
Assumed gamers were complete morons by having to put giant lights on the floor pointing the way.
Terrible production value with the literaly copy and pasting of whole sections of rooms over and over in order to artificially extend a level.
Highly overrated. The only reason it was as huge as it was, was because there literally was nothing better on the xbox at the time. It's easy to look like gold when you're surrounded by shit.

Gears of War
Clunky Weaponry
Could tell it was written by guys who didn't know what 'badass' really meant and seemed to base the wooden personalities on Steven Segal action movies.
Cover system wasn't that useful.
Repetitive wave based gameplay.
Terrible Multiplayer
Bland levels which basically are just part of Epic's new: LOL GRIMDARK personality
Essentially, it was nothing more than really high tech frogger.

I'd like to know why I'm too sexy for this shirt. Too sexy for this shirt, so sexy it hurts.

Seriously though, I'd like to know why gamers are afraid to push an attack in an online game. It was pretty raging to see my entire team run away at the first sign that a fight won't be an easy win in Warhammer Online. Planetside was the same way. You'd get a ton of people outside of a twower's doors, afraid to go in and get shit done.

Then why don't you list your favorite games? I bet most of them I would look at like it's bloody awful. To each his own, no games perfect. Stop trying to assume there's one that is and the rest are inferior.

I actually never did, I never said any game is perfect either, and I certainly don't think only one game is good and the rest are inferior. Stop crying because the games you think are "good" are actually mediocre/bad.

Edit: My favorite games are the Half Life series and Portal to name two of them, go ahead and say what you like.

I'm not crying..? If you find that crying, you have a lot to learn.

By the way, the Hal Life series isn't amazing. Don't see the point in it.

PS: Sigh, this thread isn't worth my time. PersianLlama is just to stuck up. No point in feeding the blind fanboy.

Good day, sir.

Average storyline, perhaps even 'good'. Terrible? No, not really. Most certainly not in comparison to the games currently on the market.
Shield system was just the health regen of today. The only difference was what you called it. Even if you hate it you're kinda hating on 99% of FPSes these days so...well, it's not a dig against Halo so much as a dislike for FPSes move away from health packs.
Easy? Well, to each their own. I found Legendary quite challenging actually.
I can't really argue with short beyond "a lot of other games are short these days" but that's not really a defence so much as a statement of relativity.

Yes, yes, the story wasn't original. Congratulations on pointing out the obvious. I bet you can't name 10 games that were released within the last three years that had entirely original stories though. I'd go so far as to say you'd be pushed to name three games.
I'd rather they give me helpful hints on where to go rather than leaving me accidentally backtracking through some levels. The arrows are a nice way of conveying it. I quite liked it personally but again, to each their own.
Can't really argue with the copypasta rooms at times, but for some parts it kinda fitted into the storyline like aboard the Covenant ship. I expect those to have similar rooms.
Highly overrated is not a negative point. It's a product of media hype, not of the game itself. The fact that you count it as an aspect of the game speaks volumes about whats important to you in a game, it really does. Yes, Halo was highly overrated. It didn't deserve 10s and perfect scores that were thrown at its feet like roses to the winner of a Miss Universe contest, but nevertheless, like it or not, Halo was a fairly competent shooter and at the very least, good. Not great, but good.

Honestly the fanboy rage against it is hilarious. Undoubtedly I'm going to get called a Halo fanboy for defending it, but eh, whatever floats your boat guys.

Oh, and while I'm at it:

Half Life series and Portal to name two of them, go ahead and say what you like.

Portal: Survive through a number of trials while a malevolent AI manipulates you along the way. Hm, System Shock 2 and SHODAN anyone?
Halflife: Aliens invade earth, you fight against them. Shit, never heard that storyline before.

Bear in mind I quite enjoyed both game (series), nevertheless if you're going to dig on Halo for having the overplayed Space marine vs. Aliens scenario, I feel it's only fair to respond by boiling down your games to essentially unoriginal set pieces. Yes, the expanded storyline above the set pieces is special, but boiling it down to Space Marine Vs. Aliens deserves a boil down in turn.

I hadn't actually intended to start defending Halo, the fanboy hatred of it annoys me just as much as the fanboy love of it though.

Because their bloody cowards and have disgraced their clan. Worry not, the Daimyo has sent for them.

WHY are the majority of gamers sheep that shape their opinions on reviews? Even if they've played the game and loved it, I've seen people lose their opinion with one trip to IGN.

I'd like to know why people openly pick fights on forums. I'll try to resolve the little one that has broken out here, regarding Gears, Halo and Half life. THEY ARE ALL GOOD GAMES!!! No game is perfect and when you look at anything long enough you will be able to pick holes in it. Just enjoy them for what they are and stop complaining when people don't see things your way.

Because teenagers and immature manchildren make up a massive proportion of the video game community.

I want to know why games like Battle for Middle Earth II and Univers at War play so badly on the Xbox 360? If you are going to port a game to a console, shouldn't you make sure that it plays well on the console before you sell it? I mean they can't even use the "there are too many hardware configurations out there to plan for all of them" arguement they use for PC games. All Xbox 360's are the same inside as far as the specs go (except for hard drive size but that shouldn't affect these games any). They are both great games on my PC which is by no means the most powerful PC on the planet. Couldn't they have scaled back the graphics, sound etc. to make these games play better on consoles?

Why the fuck would you want to play BFME2, or any RTS for that matter, on the 360?

Seriously, I have a 6 year old PC that cost me 400 bucks 3 years ago that runs BFME2 on medium fine, so I see no reason why anyone would have to deal with the crap that is a Console RTS.

To be fair, Civ Rev was good.

Yes, but when was the last time a game had a song as awesome as "Still Alive" I believe System Shock 2 didn't.

Half-Life goes more in depth than "Oh noes, aliens, blast them to hell".
Oh and I found the execution of the story with the immersion in Half-Life extremely well done, especially in the intros.

Silent Hill obviously feels the need to up itself with every release, be it Graphically, game-play wise or even with the story itself or character development, whereas Lego Batman is a Satirical look at a pre-existing story-line hosted by characters that everyone knows and how graphically intensive could a lego brick get?
Also after Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones, i'd think that they'd be pretty used to using the same system over and over by now.

I'd like to know what happened to the good old "world map" in RPGs? be they Japanese or not, i miss the classic world map system where you could you know, actually traverse the landscape...but somewhere around the time the PS2 was released we had to have it replaced by a crappy map-screen with little markers that you click on and you're there.

So yeah, what happened to the good old World Map days?

I'd like to know the point of a new sports game being released every year. Honestly. (Other than making money that is).

I'd like to know why people will hop on the hype/hate bandwagon before they even play the game. If you haven't actually played it and done so with an open mind, then you have no right to either side of the argument.

I'd like to know why "reviewers" lately seem to think that their position automatically means they have to shit all over every game released. Yahtzee excluded for obvious reasons.

I'd like to know when the hell Brutal Legend is coming out.

I'd like to know why people feel the need to hate on Halo so much. Sure it's not the greatest thing to ever happen to gaming but it's not the unholy ruin of gaming as we know it like some people seem to think.

I'd like to know why people let Nintendo get away with half the shit they've pulled over the past few years.

I'd like to know who killed the adventure game.

I'd like to know what happened in at Lucas Arts that made them suck so much.

I'd like to know why EA has become the largest game company when they constantly make bad games.

I think it has to do with the number of idiots who constantly buy the sports games such as Madden or FIFA from EA sports, but I don't know.
