I loved MGS3's ending, 2's, quite, havent played 1 (...) ...But Mgs4 was just a pisstake. Allow me to copypaste from a journal from just after i finished it.

Myself, from July 20th:
I'm still reeling from the lack of sleep i got last night. I finally finished MGS4...And HOLY BLOODY HELL...It took forever. I loved the whole story thing and whatever, but...I played it for like...3 hours...and in that time, only 40 minuites were gameplay. IM DEAD FUCKING SERIOUS. Let me put it this way - It was just this -
Small bit running down a corridor, then a cutscene, one of the best bosses ever, then another cutscene, one of the most insane button-mashing seqences ive ever seen as snake goes down a corridor full of microwaves getting slower and slower, a profanely long cutscene (like 10 friggin' minuites), then a strange tekken-like battle, Then a GIGANTIC cutscene (20 minuites at least), then some credits...I finally thought this was it. This was the end. But NO. It slaps me with another cutscene which was like 25 minuites...then it gives me the longest unskippable credit seqence ive seen since assassin's creed (And thats a biblical acheivement, but...not really one to be proud of)...Which is really ironic seeing that you can get an Altair costume. And then...After that...After ALL THAT...I found that it was all in vain - I found out that somehow i had killed 3 people, ruining my chance to get a no-kill file.

GRRRRRRGH.

Lemme go listen to some music, just to feel good about myself again...*sobs in frustration*

So lemme summarise. TOO. MUCH. CINEMATIC. I was bored as hell at some points from the LUDICROUS amounts of cutscenes...

I didn't shed a tear at the end of MGS4 but I was very touched by Big Boss's final speech and his final words, even though I have no idea what he was going on about really.

PS I think that the sound track made it more emotional I still listen to those songs on youtube.

I understand where you're coming from on the amount of cutscenes. I found myself dozing in some of cutscenes during the game. HOWEVER! The ending scenes, I was at full attention. Those were the ones that I was actually paying attention to. I loved every second of it.

Also, the Old Snake song...that really draws on your heart strings.

I might have, if it wasnt for the fact that the story itself is awful.

If you didn't cry at Big Boss' death on The Boss' tombstone, you haven't followed the Series Storyline properly.

I don't know. I like Metal Gear stories. Definitely in need of a lawnmower to remove the weeds that block the view (also because some people would get bored from so much dialogue, although I don't), but it really makes you think. Should be taken up by some universities in their philosophy classes, if you ask me.

Well, maybe not taken completely seriously, but still.

That wasn't me. I changed it. Check out the picture thread to see what I look like.

I NEEED a bloody PS3!!!

I only got mine because of MGS4 and Disgaea 3, though there are a few other games I want now that I have it. (Mainly LBP).

So did my brother. It sits on the shelf gathering dust at the moment.

While MGS4 was the best MGS "game", I found the ending to MGS3 to be the most emotional. The showdown between The Boss and Naked Snake was awesome, probably my favorite boss battle ever.

Needless to say the most emotional part of the MGS4 ending was when

I thought it was a good ending, it might even lead to a cameo from Snake in a future game if the new Metal Gear game rumours are to be believed.

It wasn't a definitive ending like i had hoped though.

I teared up several times, both during the ending and at certain deaths. Hell, I STILL tear up when I hear "Father and Son".

No silly, I'm an actual panda sitting on the other side of this computer. 99% of my diet is bamboo and the other 1% is sex.

How I feel about Snake compared to Big Boss is similiar to how Joey felt about Ursula compared to Phoebe in Friends. Snake is Snake, Big Boss is... Awesome!
I don't know why I feel more attached to Naked as a character than I do to Solid, I just do.

MGS3 Jokey? Have you played through the first chapter of MGS4?? that was almost all jokes! It got to the point where i put it down for awhile because i wanted the game to be serious and it kept making Johnny shitting refrences.

Yeah, I have to say the incontinence humor must be a Japanese thing, because it carried across FOUR GAMES. WE GET IT, JOHNNY HAS THE RUNS. THIS IS NOT COMEDY.

Actually it was three, Johnny didn't make any appearences in Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Portible Ops or MGS2.

my last post was sopposed to have a quote from somebody saying MGS3 was too jokey. which I guess is slightly true, but they were wide spread. MGS4 had them all compiled in one chapter and almost never joked again afterwards..which i appreciated.

EDIT: although i could really really do without the Meryl/Johnny discussing the marraige shooting FROGS cutscene. I swear that was done in a movie somewhere and it didn't look good there either.

Johnny appears in MGS2, just hold up your Direction Mic at the second silo-thing when Emma is behind it while walking across the pontoon bridge and you'll trigger a scene with him.

On topic: I teared up perpetually during MGS4, all of it made me break down. The return to Shadow Moses and "The Best Is Yet To Come", the final fight had me on the edge of my chair for the unequaled epicness and the real endings just had me sulking my shirt wet. And just like Snake in his present condition this game made me feel old because Light knows how long I've been a follower in the Console War.

I never saw that scene with Johnny in MGS2.

and I'm with you on the feeling old part. Been here since MGS1, think i was 14. being 20 now I actually felt my age at that moment.

Yes, you can hear Johnny and more crap humor with the D-Mic while covering Emma as she crosses between struts.

I never even played the first 3 games, and I still fell in love with all the characters and now compare all games on this guideline:
Out of 20:
10 for being a good game.
10 for being a Metal Gear game.

Spoilerage here:

The instant you get to play the Metal Gear Solid in snakes little dream sequence, I was gobsmacked. Absolutely awesome. And then the combination of nostalgia, beautiful music and imagery of Shadow Moses sealed the deal. The falling camera was synchronised with a slight judder.

Through the microwave room I was mashing triangle and consistently yelling "Don't die on me man, we've come way to far!"

The battle at the end was all about the music and epic feeling.

Overall a masterpiece ... don't listen to the haters

(Sorry just joined the forum so not quite fluent with the ins and outs of presentation of spoilers)

Well that obviously didn't work for the final stages of the game.

Damn, same thing here, that triangle smashing hurt the hell out of my fingers, and my throat, my parents thought I was crazy.

Even better, when you're at Shadow Moses in MGS4, if you put the camera above Snake's head after a while he starts saying "Yeah, overhead view. Now you're talkin'! Overhead view! Just awesome! Overhead view!"

That made my day.

No way! Thats cool! Must..play..again... missing a single bit of Snake dialogue is like missing a limb!

I got MGS2 used and put up with the horrible, HORRIBLE game mechanics and asinine story up until the point I was expected to wait for the wind to move a flag so I could shoot some C4 sensor. Then I said "fuck this" and returned it.

The sad thing is I had bought MGS3 months before that (and have yet to open it), and wished dearly that I had known how terrible MGS2 was so I wouldn't have bothered.

Well, have you played MGS1? That was amazing, I recommend buying Twin Snakes for GC and then looking up major points in the story for MGS2(since you cant handle it) THEN play MGS3 and MGS4.
