I never understood how probing a persons butt with a giant plastic finger would be a good Arcade game.

I never understood racers. Sure glistening crashes and great physics but i never got a scence of acomplishment from playing one.

Sports games just make me insanly confused. Sure theres a sence of supporting ur favorite team and whatnot, and ive seen profesionals "lab" to understand game mechanics better but where is the twist. They seem to me like just another sim game.

If someone could explain the concept to me on this forum or would like to write a peice of their bewilderment they would be fulfiling this forum's purpose

Killer7, while not a genre was one I could not get my head around.
There was also a horror survival that required you to press a button for every single interaction that gor on my tits.

As for genres, it's not that I don't understand them but most sport sims, FIFA, RES et al leave me cold and any stealth game, asides from Thief :DS bores me.

any game for the Wii. Having to do physical work while playing game just boggles my mind :S. If i want to do physical work for enjoyment i tend to go out and do it in real life.

The Sims. There, I said it.

I fail to see why people play a game in which they play themselves going to work, furnishing their home, doing chores, etc. I do that in real life and I like games for escapism, and never the two shall meet.

I never could understand why people play games like FF and Golden Sun, there is so much dialogue to skip through my bloody finger started to hurt from skipping so much. And the turned based game watching the same moves over and over again a million times when fighting a boss with a zillion health. And the story's just suck, who ever said they play for the story could be entertained by a 5 year old kids homework!

point and click games like command and conker (or however it's spelt) dawn of war and the sims. the thing i really didnt get about dawn of war was that you didnt need to tell your minions to attack, they did it automatically so all you had to do was build stuff which i could do with play-dough and be able to be a lot more imaginative, have more fun and not have to worry that the thing i want to build wont fit in the space i want to but it.

Killer7....I really wanted to like it, but after the first couple of levels I'd find myself looking longingly over at another game. Also, I've never really gotten into MMORPGs.

Nintendogs...my girlfriend and brother love it I just dont see the appeal. We have a real dog and my brother is like "go away im trying to play fetch with my dog".

The same goes for other pet sims.

Oh and Flight Simulator, my brother again raves about how great it is, so i had a "go", did't see what I was supposed to be achieving just flying around the sky listening to air traffic control tell me things. Then land and start again.

Yeah i don't get them sports games either, mostly virtual Tennis.

The sims was fun, but what I didn't understand was people who gave them Ordanery persoanlities in ordanery houses and sent them off to work every day in a good mood, the point was to use your imagination and exploit the fact that these people were your slaves, put a toilet in the kitchen, place everything outside, wall your sims in and make part of the house a levitating militery bunker.

Sims 2 was an unnessesery release which I firmly belive was the result of a bad day's meeting at EA who had ran out of expansion pack idea's, though when I opened my new shiney copy of spore I found an advert for the Sims 3 grinned madly at me from its nice little perch in front of the instruction manual.

Strangly I never got Guildwars either, something short of Blashfmey in certain places.
Seriously what was the point in that game, besides the serious unspecified gameplay issues it lacked the one thing I look for in a game, enetertainment value, its not fun, its just obessivly boring, you feel the need to continue and push forward with mission after mission but in all honestly i'd rather be outside rolling in the grass or hitting my head with a radiator or something.
same goes for Eve-Online

i never understood sports games, racing simultors, flight simulators (yet pretending i was a half-assed terrorist who never had been in a plane so i'd crash it randomly and non-accidentally was kinda fun), or MMORPG's in general, while between the ages of 10-11 I was addicted to RuneScape (AKA Shit with dick sauce) because i was too stupid to ask questions just like some brainwashed little slave

Sports games that don't involve some kinda board, and even then they get old quick. However, I don't get games that have ball in them. People talk about JRPGs being tedious, but I just can't understand what's fun about those games.

I do have thumbs, but it seems you don't have a spell checker.

But I do suppose I enjoy smaller hitboxes, more capable movement/aiming, and less limited game environments (and let's not even start on multiplayer or mods).

I honestly can uderstand any sport game that doesnt have a twist like that old NES game where it was robot base ball and you could beat the ever-loving hell out of the base men to get the base if thy caught the ball.

the nascar game I either saw or it was a horrible nightmare. I mean honestly a fucking game centered around making leftturns. The real thing is fucking bad enough, but a game about it? really? I suppose this could apply to everyother racing game without a twist. Burnout was fun.

And colection games. Things like animal crossing or Harvest moon. I dont get it. Really if I wanted to watch someone do some farm work I''d stalk the farm owner a mile away from me. And While others may feel the sims falls under this, it doesnt thats like awesome I can kill my dude over and over and he wont die.

Flight sims. no. Just no.

I love JRPG's I like stories, and anything with a good one is cool. Also anything with massivamounts of relevent customization, I love me some relevent customization. It's why I've beaten the FF port to GBA seven times. I love customization.

One thing I like is over the top violence that doesnt even try to stop it self. taking a .50 calibur round to the head and the head explodes like a hand gernade was shoved up the poor sap's nose? Hell yes.

I love FF stories and you're completely right. Maybe I should read five year old's homework insted.

To respond, sports games.

Seconded.

Rhythm games are more like reflex tests than actual games.

The following games, I don't understand or see any enjoyment in:

99% of all FPS games
Rhythm games
Survival Horror
Sports games
Racing games
Most simulation games (I get The Sims, but I don't really get Nintendogs. Probably because I have a dog, but I don't have godlike powers over my family)

Not to be offensive, but what's there not to understand? People who like sports or are sport fanatics want to see it in action, to be in control of the sport.

Simulators are simply a very interesting and great, safe, cheap alternative to the real thing. If done right, the immersion can be so great!

Flight simulators are a different 'breed' because flying.. is.. well.. boring, to be honest. You don't feel the G forces when you go into a steep dive, you don't feel the vibrations of the aircraft.. etc. To make it more interesting you can add the element of combat. Suddenly it has become a whole different way of flying that is really difficult to master. Flight simulators like the Microsoft series just bore me.. But it is really useful for research. I am currently using X-Plane for research.

Maybe that will help you understand them better? :p

Help me understand the joy of games like Frats on Fire, or Guitar Hero.. They really do not interest me and I can't see why tapping buttons in a certain pattern is *fun*.

Katamari series, tried to like them since I loved the idea - but both the graphical design and background music were frankly downright nauseating. All characters creeped me out something fierce (and I loved the graphics in Psychonauts, for comparison) and those tunes nearly made my eardrums implode and/or take an early retirement.
Can't understand how anyone can enjoy it under those circumstances.

Yup, I definitely don't understand racers and sports. Go out and play yourself. And if your too lazy and fat, why are you paying $60 every year for the new copy of Madden when it's the same damn game. (Applies to most, if not all, sport/racing games.)

This isn't console vs PC shooter, it's game's you don't get. And something I don't get is why you don't get console shooters. It's the same idea as a PC shooter but with a different, almost equally good control interface.

I see fine why you would like PC shooters more but if you "don't get" something because you don't like it then you're a moron. Especially if you like an almost identicle parallel.

And one last thing; Where's your eggo, Eggo? I don't see how a cat with oversized sunglasses relates to your screen-name.
