You're real fucking helpful. Sorry, I'm just entering into a state of bitterness here. This sounded so very promising. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2861 Joined: 10 Mar 2008 | Bah, you better pull through with this group forming thing. I'd be happy to sign a petition or two to get you guys some R+18 rating. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 408 Joined: 21 Nov 2007 | Wow, they just don't want you guys to have fun, do they? Didn't realise that those other three had been banned as well, guess I'm not gonna be moving to Oz anytime soon, not with them banning a large portion of the big games. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1080 Joined: 20 Jul 2008 | This is bloody stupid. Won't stop me from attempting to order over seas or pirate the games though. When was the last time Australia even produced a good game? Our industry is failing more and more with these pointless restrictions. |

He said those were possible games that would be next, though I wouldn't be surprised if Gears 2 would be. Again, I'll be happy to support your cause in anyway I can. |

I'm sorry would you prefer an overly verbose composition on the ins and outs of why banning games is pathetic? I don't live in Australia, there's really nothing I can do to help there... Maybe if I worked in the army I could redirect a missile over to whoever thought banning these games was a good idea... Maybe not. Bottom line, can't help ya... Was just expressing my solidarity. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1080 Joined: 20 Jul 2008 |
Unfortunately no matter how many petitions we sign, the older folk still disagree on it. They don't even play video games yet they can say we don't get a R18+ rating. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 80 Joined: 10 May 2008 | Hasn't Dead Space already been given an MA15+? Either way, it's shocking. It's almost as if the guys in charge don't want us Aussies to play potentially great games. A protest may not be enough to get their attention. I know a few people who are very good with explosives, maybe they can help us....... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1954 Joined: 6 Aug 2008 | I swear a lot but i feel strongly about the subject. FUCK OFF GOVERNMENT!!! I swear to christ I don't give a flying fuck how violent or evil they think a game is leave my purchases the fuck alone. GODDAMMIT this absolutely shits me, who the fuck are they to say it's too violent, it's a motherf^cking game, get the fuck over it and stop trying to create some little fucking regime full of little government jesus loving pricks. I can watch, play and do what ever the fuck I want within a reasonable parameter and they can go to hell. My negative influences are the world around me, not something as simple as a game, god I hope all these PTA, christian morals etc. groups get hit by trucks. games aren't violent but if they keep this shit up I will be. |

I would too but I'm only 15 so they'd ignore me. Might be able to send them a few letters or whatever you need to get this going if this ever gets organized. |

Yeah, at the expense of the rest of the world, Bethesda had to make it so that nobody would get the pure version of the game just because your damn government banned it, then unbanned it when Bethesda watered it down. |

The only change was from naming Morphine Med-X. That name is better than morphine for a Fallout title anyway. Whats the big deal? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1954 Joined: 6 Aug 2008 |
That something so insignificant caused such a controversy. They're freaking out because they called something morphine. 1 word was enough to freak out our classification board enough to stop this release. They're allowance of the game after the name change proves it. It's ridiculous stupid and just shows the complete idiocy of our system. |

I wish it was the whole government. That way it could be voted on. Sadly its a single state governor in South Australia who is blocking the ratings system legislation. All governors need to sign off on it and all of them have, except for this one prick in his outdated and defunct position. When he's not being a general Velocidouche by blocking legislation for the whole country because of his personal views, I imagine he spends his time cutting ribbons on new buildings and trying to make it seem like his job isn't a sad pathetic remnant of colonialism. Oh and yes, the public has no power to remove him. |

SOUTH AUSTRALIA??? Oh sweet lord in heaven. 1 asshole is trying to stop my freedom to do what I want? Remember they wouldn't let that underbelly show on down there because it was "too violent", there's something severely wrong with that asshole/puppet/clown/hat. |

A year ago, you may have heard of it, it was called Bioshock. Edit: OK, I take that back, I read the news. Apparently petty squabbling means that Sony stopped financing this game. But this is getting tangental.... |

When does that matter? Manhunt got let through first time, and was retroactively banned, and all copies had to be surrendered to the government (true). |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1341 Joined: 29 Nov 2007 | Man...this is vaguely on topic but the saddest thing is that Australian Copyright laws are brutal. You guys consider mod chips for region unlocking to be illegal as well. Tell you what: get a PS3 and over here in ye olde America we'll organize care packages of region-free games to send over. |

Funny you should say that, cause I've actually been looking for a supplier after I had a falling out with my old one. Its weird, I'm not even angry anymore, Its like I figured it would happen again. |

Sadly, I remember that. I also remember that Mark Ecko game that was given an MA rating, then banned because the government made a committee to oversee the OFLC (translation: serve their own agenda). |

If you do that it'll just keep getting worse, to the point when they ban Viva Pinata because you can kill Pinata's. God I hate that guy, now he's started it it can only go two different ways. He backs down or we get forced down. I don't like censorship, and we might end up going that way for the sake of "protecting the children" or what ever other idiot reason they come up with. |

Oh it is alright, I think its cause A) They have nothing to do besides ride the new tram network so their minor appointed officials complain a lot. Or, B) Any talk of violence stirs up memories of shallow bush graves. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 781 Joined: 8 Jul 2008 | IT'S A SURVIVAL HORROR GAME. I can't stress that enough, It is supposed to be unrealistic and gory, it's not like Manhunt where you're a guy going round and murdering dudes for no reason, no, you're a man trying to survive by killing ZOMBIE DOGS AND NURSES. I can't believe they are trying to ban this just because of some unrealistic violence. If I was in Australia I swear I would join you, but I had the misfortune of not being born there. Please don't hurt me... |

Copy Clerk Posts: 94 Joined: 14 May 2008 | Damn... Australia is one of the places I had wanted to move when the American economy sinks into a new depression (which it is as we speak.) But now fuck that, I had no idea your government is that fucked up. The worst video games do is show some unrealistic violence; what about Bush, who gave the go-ahead on a real war that cause tens of thousands of deaths? Or the media that shows those bombings and the results of them? Wouldn't that influence someone a bit more than a damn game. |
Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 26 Sep 2008 | A question on this one: (I'm just merely curious because we've been having, uhm, sort of a situation here in Germany for decades, as you all might know. Yet both the process and its effects are so painstakingly complicated to explain that it makes me wonder if any other country bothers with legal processes and regulations and stuff in quite the same way.) |

The Australian Videogames Rating Board. Not sure if that is their official name. Anyway, the Aussie government doesn't provide a Mature rating for videogames. This means that if a game is too violent/disturbing/anything than what is allowed under their highset rating, they cannot rate it and thus it is banned. Most of australia has signed on this rating, as stated before, except for one guy who doesn't even know what a videogame is by the sounds of it. @ Reaperman Wompa |

Ok, that makes 4 in a year, and Dead Space, Resistance 2 and Gears 2 are a very real possibility for a fifth, sixth and seventh. This shit is beyond ridiculous now.
My offer to lead a group of protesters still stands. I will now add the Pyramid head costume to our potential (yes, I know hes only in Silent Hill 2, but he remains recognisable, and intimidating).
