Steve Irwin was awesome. He actually came up with new used for the word Crikey. I swear I heard him say "by Crikey" one time.
I don't consider his accent the average australian accent. I've been there quite a few times, so I know what I'm talking about.

I live there so I do as well.

Anyways I haven't met anyone with a really Aussie accent. Meh maybe it's who I hang out with.

I'm a New Zealander and even I find it annoying.
Go on, call me out on the "fosh and chops" thing, I don't care. especially since it's a fictional stereotype and your accents are actually annoying.
Far too high pitched.

I haven't actually met anyone who speaks like the "average aussie" it's with both of us, only a very few people speak like that, mostly deeply Australians like Steve Irwin did.

Out of context but just to clear it up. Only very few Australians have a high pitched accent and unfortunately, Steve Irwin and his demon spawn happened to be some of them so now people find all Australians to be like that. Also we don't talk about barbecues and shrimp as an introduction though we do say G'day a lot.

Also having an accent yourself you wouldn't really notice it as much.
I'll admit that New Zealand accents are far from without faults. And I'm not saying your accents should be purged from the earth. But a little Ninja deep inside me (in the metaphorical sense) cringes whenever I hear them.

Edit: Apologies for helping to derail the thread.

And mate. We say mate a lot.

To stop a close of this thread why is it up to this guy to decide, shouldn't our classification board get to make the decision?

...In my defense I have a completely different accent to other Australians. Ah well when we create our gaming kingdom eventually all accents will merge and we won't have this problem.

Okay this is going to sound a little prejudiced and for that I apologize in advance as I mean no offence.
However one thing that did especially annoy me about the New Zealand censor banning specific things is that he is a homosexual. It really annoys me that someone who some people consider to be a "deviant" has authority to tell us what is bad for us. Also after fighting for freedom of expression for himself he now denys us access to things that he finds morally questionable.
Isn;t that a little bit hypocritical ?

Also my bad on the thread derailing >.<

That's a very good point actually. It's like as if Barrack Obama were antisemitic.

Gears 2 is rated MA 15 + - so yeah, I'm not to bothered (not a fan of horror games) and am I the only person that thought that gears of war was only above average?

No a lot of people didn't see what all the hype was about.

And they're still thinking of banning it.

Which would be the greater sin?

Barack obama says he hates white people

John mckkkain says he hates black people?

Which of these statements would lose you a USA presidential election?

The P.C answer is the wrong one

Barack Obama would lose but McCain saying he hates black people is worse, technically.

ahh, the glories of living in sweet little Denmark, the country where everything entertainment related goes(1).

(1)as long as it doesn't interfere with the larger corporations' ability to squeeze every single drop of value out of everyone they see.

I can't wrap my head around why the australian system allows one single prick to ruin something for a lot of people, especially when it doesn't seem to be anything he's going to be involved with at all. It's a strange beaucratical quirk.

Because then the system would be intelligent, and this is a government we are talking about after all.

What exactly is the argument behind not having an 18+ rating? That no one over 15 plays video games? Talk about ignorant.

Erm... depending one what system you have, it may not matter.

Do you own a PS3? I understand they're region free. In which case, import online then send a message to the losers who banned it telling them that you're playing it anyway and you're money is going to other countries instead of back into Australia and that's their fault.

Banning games is pathetic... Regardless of the game.

I'd join you, but I'm not in Australia

You're real fucking helpful.

Sorry, I'm just entering into a state of bitterness here. This sounded so very promising.

No one lives in Australia.

Honestly though, this is ridiculous! You should let gamers play whatever they want. It should ultimately be the parent's descision, in the case of a child. I'll come to Australia to join the march.

The first step is to get an 18+ rating in Austrailia. On a side note, never knew Silent Hill was developed to the point that it has been rated. Anyway Indigo we PS3 fanboys can import our games.

Ok, that makes 4 in a year, and Dead Space, Resistance 2 and Gears 2 are a very real possibility for a fifth, sixth and seventh. This shit is beyond ridiculous now.

My offer to lead a group of protesters still stands. I will now add the Pyramid head costume to our potential (yes, I know hes only in Silent Hill 2, but he remains recognisable, and intimidating).

Fuck it, Im behind you all the way!!!!!!

When was the last time Australia even produced a good game?

Pandemic, the guys behind the Mercenaries and Destroy All Humans! series are Australian based.

Just like to remind people, importing is not a legal option... though, if you really want to...

We could hide it in cakes!!!

...They'd probably think it had anthrax in it...and I don't have a PS3...shit.

Is this still an open topic for voting or because this guy said no are we now not allowed an R18 rating?

I hope one day human society will realize the futility of banning things, because the more things you ban the more determined people are to get it.

And so I will interpret Australia's banning of games as an underhanded, back door advertisement for everyone to move to America (or Europe, possibly Asia as well depending on your preferences) and buy all these wonderful developer's games, because if its bad enough to be banned it must be good to play, right?

I found something out in the midst of the Fallout 3 thing - apparently the government is allowed to seize any copies that they find (it was a non-issue before the Ps3 came around) being imported, even for personal use.

Yes, that means the government is seizing our mail.

The decision of a R18+ rating lies with the Attorney-Generals; it's not given to the people of Australia. We have no say in this, simply because it's all up to who ever Atkinson gets replaced by.

They were going to vote on it in March, but unfortunately, that went the way of the Doha Trade Agreement (bust).

The government of the good folks who gave us Wolf Creek are banning Silent Hill, Dead Space, Resistance 2, Gears 2 and Fallout 3?

I've always been fond of Australia and Aussies, but as an individual vehemently opposed to censorship, its very angering.

Point me to your petitions.

I had my rant about this in the news room version of this topic so i wont bother here.

As for the protest im 100% behind you if its in Melbourne,if its not my spirit will be there.
Im so feed up with the government banning games due to our rating system, it needs to be fixed so everyone can enjoy the new games.

That's unfortunate. I really like the SH series; I don't want my fellow gamers to miss out!

I assume (hope) the BBFC will take a back seat after the Manhunt 2 debacle.

Or maybe they'll be even more uppity. Here's hoping for a Gears of War 2 ban.

Okay, admittedly banning games is stupid but what you've gotta understand is it isn't some personal vendetta against gamers that the goverment is launching. They're trying to protect their own asses when some kid goes and shoots up a shopping centre because he "saw" it in a game. The parent groups would have a field day. You can't blame them for trying to stop something before it happens.

However, you can blame them for not having the balls to tell said parent groups that it's not the governments job to tell their kids what they can and can't play.

Don't worry though, that's pretty much the only thing wrong with our country.

Apart from the australian accent plus the fact that 90% of the country is barren desert. <.<;;;

I say we go to the middle of australia, plant a new flag and claim it in the name of gamerdom! Can build our own damn city just like a real life sim city (no trying to lure godzilla to it) and have no damn censorship laws.
Cmon why not ? I mean from what I hear theres a small island off the coast of australia that has been dedicated to homosexuals. Why cant we have a gamer territory. ;.;

So, kind of like an above sea level Rapture? Don't think that will end well.

EDIT: Not that I wouldn't support it up until the game-splicers (in this analogy, games are ADAM) destroyed it.
