I have GMOD and I end up being too creative for public servers (they don't like 50-piece wiremod contraptions). Good idea though. As for LBP, can't afford a PS3. |

Muckraker Posts: 234 Joined: 25 Sep 2008 | I'd say don't just play a game but get into modding as a hobby to exercise your brain. Learning something new can be a good way. |

Absolutely. Modding can be whole buckets of awesome once you get past the initial I Don't Know How To Code barrier. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 762 Joined: 16 Jul 2008 | Y'know modding sounds like a good idea. I havn't done any mods since I was deep into the EGOSOFT community (X: Beyond the Frontier through to X3). As for other forms of creation I already do a fair bit of video work, much of which I can't say I have done due to NDA >_> Thanks! Any other suggestions? |

There is a questgiver... called dooshbag!? O_o Also I suppose I could boot up my older games. I have a fully working Commodore64, NES, SNES, Atari 2600, BBC Micro, Genesis, a bunch of Turbo consoles (JOHNNY TURBO, F* YEA!) and a couple of machines from a couple generations ago. Alot of those older games really taxed the mind. Perhaps I should try and beat Contra. Without the code. |

Although one wonders if you can use said illness as a method to guilt the people around you into getting one.... All joking aside, theres a couple. You might want to stay the hell away from most FPS's (although the Metroid Prime series might be intellectually stimulating enough), as thats likely to actually help said brain rotting. That and anything which can have the word grind attributed to it. If I may, you might want to go a bit old school. Try stuff like KOTOR, Ico, Shadow of the Collosus, Metal Gear Solid 1 and 3 (and 2 if you want to try to wrap your head around it), the Hitman series...ok, any stealth games (except for Splinter Cell), the Disgaea series (think of it as a fusion of chess, a regular JRPG, LSD, and a strategy game) and maybe plunder the Wiis Virtual Console. |

I have always loved your humour. I needed that smile, thankyou!
Completed Kotor 1 and 2, Ico, Shadow of the Collossus, and MGS 1 through 3 (yea I didn't get MGS2 really either, but it made more sence than people give credit for), hell i've played some of the first Metal Gear games. I have the first metroid here but never played it. Should boot that up. as for Disgaea I lent that to a friend before I had chance to give it a good go so I will get that back from her. I will also plunder her Wii's virtual console, but I am quite the collector so everything worth having on there I probably have on cartridge. I really should have given more information about what I actually had I think, sorry about that. Then again to list them would take me a couple weeks.... Ooohh that gives me something to do! |

Then we have Death Gate, a classic if you ask me. Maybe even a light hearted one .. like.. uhm.. Peasant's Quest? :p Also, it might sound a bit silly, but those free online flash games? The word games are usually pretty good! |

I honestly think addictive gamer should be a actual medical disease and should be in medical books for Doctors a Psychiatrist. Now all me need is a kick ass name! Addictus Gameritus! then we can get into sub diseases or different types of it. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 100 Joined: 21 Apr 2008 | Maybe Phoenix Wright if you have a DS...? It's like a law sim and puzzle game. You solve cases by thinking through evidence, testimony, and presenting them in a timely fashion. It requires a good amount of thinking and logic...but on the other hand it does force you through repetition and figuring out where to go next can be frustrating if you forget about something important. Bah! I'm not good at giving advice. :( It's worth a try, though. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 680 Joined: 2 Mar 2008 | Not a video game. Sudoku, picross, corss-word puzzles fo at least 2-3 hours a day should help. After that, what those above me have suggested works so far... Wow man, seeing as it sounds inevitable, I hope it takes a long time. A very long time. |

Obvious Phoenix Wright fan is obvious As often as people joke about things like this. It really does suck when a fellow game player get some kinda of disease or sickness. God speed, brain sickness guy! |

Start a Rubiks Cube obsession! So I know you don't want to go into detail, but Theo I don't wanna lose you! What's the name of your condition because I want to look it up on WebMD and Wikipedia. From what it sounds like, you have what the guy in "crank" has only instead of going out and kicking everyone's ass, you've gotta do crosswords. |

Good time, great mental workout. They have already been suggested, but I will give a 2nd at Deus Ex 1 and the Hitman series. |
Beat Writer Posts: 139 Joined: 24 Feb 2008 | Holy Fuck on a Duck are you serious? Your looking at us for life saving advice. This place is ok and all but I doubt theres a high population of doctors here. If it's for real go on a spree of mindless fun. Go do anything that pops in your head. Like go sky diving. Take a shit in a golden toilet or somthing people normaly wouldn't do. If I new I didn't have much time left I wouldn't play damn games. It's fun and all but... come on!! Even if you don't got the money get a credit card and go insane, metaphoricaly speaking. Hell when your dead det don't matter. |

OK without going into too much detail I found out yesterday that I am suffering from a condition that will slowly eat my brain into a jelly soup consisting of three parts George W. Bush and two parts Darwin Award Nominee.
With this in mind (eww, pun) the doctors have suggested I keep my brain flowing as much as possible in a way I enjoy.
Hence why I ask: Do you know any games that will stave off my eventual vegetation? Basically games that make you think, and my current digest of RTS's are just not cutting it (nor is my chess habit).
Suggestions?
