Infamous Scribbler Posts: 527 Joined: 19 May 2008 | There are 3 things in RPG's that make them fun and interesting to play: Story: A damn good story will offer hours of game play, seeing characters and events play out just like in a movie or book are just great and enjoyable. Customization: A game that lets you craft your characters in a well detailed way that can allow you to make some awexsome combination's and the constant interchanging of gear and learning of new skills allows for hours of trying to create a well balanced and powerful character. Strategy: Finding out the best way to customize your characters and then go into battle and utilize your skills to find the best way of beating your enemies is great. Thinking, going through trial and error and finding effective strategies to take on the bad guys instead of hack n slash is fun and challenging. It can be tedious, but when victory is yours it's all the more satisfying. These 3 things are the best aspects of any RPG in my books, if it nails all these things, then I am sold. Games like FF:tactics, fire emblem, and the likes do this very well making them very enjoyable and challenging games that I can sink massive amounts of hours into. |

Getting killed by rats is the graduation period for Fallout beginners. Fact. |

I like re-playability and some good character editing along with the decent story. I'd really love some class customization thou. The ultimate thing that drew me to a game like Oblivion would be that i could Custom pick my skills and name my own class! |

Paperboy Posts: 16 Joined: 22 May 2008 | It all seems to head back to Pen and Paper games for me. I like a game with a good story, especially (but not necessaraly - see FFVII) one that I can influence. What I LOVE though is an RPG that has about a million different stats, especially if they don't necessarily limit you from the beginning ('you can't twist this doorknob because you have a door opening level of 2'), but still are so basic that they level themselves (ie Oblivion, agility. All you have to do is walk around, it levels itself). That's just me, my guess is (especially for the hardcore 'I need to max out every level' guys) that this concept completely pisses some of you off. And depending, it pisses me off too, but when it works, I love it. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 583 Joined: 20 Aug 2008 | Immersion, immersion, IMMERSION. Hook me, make me feel like I'm seeing the world through my character's eyes, and flesh out the setting and I guarantee you I won't sleep a wink until I've beaten the game to death (or my wife forcibly drags me from the computer, whichever comes first.) I'll even settle for flawed immersion (Oblivion's NPCs, I'm looking at you) if the meat of the combat's good enough. I've spent many a night just hunting animals and trolls in the Great Forest for the hell of it. |

Right now there are three things that make RPG's RPG's: I like RPG's for 2, though I would prefer more actual role playing elements i.e. the game / story changing to reflect your in game actions and decisions. |
Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 15 Aug 2008 | Gaining new skills. As I rise the level gaining ladder, I gain new and possibly awsome new skills. I have seen some that are just plain kick ass at the higher levels of some games. In some rpg's you get new stuff at higher lvls. Like persona 3 at level 90 you can obtain "The Messiah." A persona so bad ass, that anything else can suck your evoker. |

I love becoming God in an RPG. It's... enjoyable, to say the least. Of course, an excellent story is always welcome. |
Muckraker Posts: 250 Joined: 29 May 2008 | It's all about a constantly evolving epic story. I don't care much for levelling, it's just something that needs to be done to reach the next big development in the story or a plot twist. That's why I love the Zelda games so much because the actual gaming is so spot on. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1088 Joined: 8 Apr 2008 | Exploration: I love finding all the nooks and crannies in every environment, talking to every NPC as many times as it takes to hear everything they have to say, getting familiar with the particular world's lore, collecting every item and piece of equipment, from the really crappy to the best of the best, etc. etc. Probably why I'm so fascinated by MMORPG's yet can't get into them. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 70 Joined: 5 Jun 2008 | Best thing about rpgs for me is when you get cool characters who show up whether they're evil or not. Elminster from the baldur's gate games is a great example, he showed up very rarely but was brilliant just because he was who he was :) |
