The credit cruch is upon us and we can afford less games. I would like people to nominate the best value games they know of and why they have chosen them. Mine would be (in no particular order)
1.Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (single player)
2.Call of Duty 4 (multiplayer)
3.Metal Gear Solid 4 (story)

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Huge replay value and a very entertaining game.
Fable 2 (maybe) Looks decent and if like the first one is likely to have a large amount of replay value.
Crackdown: Fun story, action, development, game is very fun and doesn't get old as fast as other games.
Guild Wars: (online play) Free after initial purchase, fun and generally has a more relaxed community than WoW.

Far Cry - it costs next to nothing, takes ages to complete, and is pretty good fun, particularly in the early stages.

The credit crunch has worked well for me because now I'm going back to buy older generation games to keep me entertained until the crunch is over or I become rich.

Last month I got and I think are all worth the low prices I got them for:

FFXII - PS2
SAB2 - GC
Dragon Quest - PS2
Tales of Symphonia - GC
Devil May Cry 1 - PS2
Wind Waker - GC

I paid like 6 or 7 quid for these from a gamestation in the town over and have been busy/happy ever since ^^

I'll stick to flash games until the crunch is over.

Mario Kart Double Dash/The Legend of Zelda collector's edition:
Pretty much 5 games in one box, you have Mario Kart: DD, Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, I think it was only around £16-£20 as well.

Also The Orange Box
-Portal is awesome
-Half-Life 2 is great and looooooong
-Haven't played TF2 but it looks good

And TLoZ: The Wind Waker special edition
-A brilliant yet short and incredibly pretty game
-A super-hard version of Ocarina of Time plus the original
All for about £12 off Amazon.co.uk

Another bit of advice: Amazon is your friend. You'd be surprised at some of the bargains you can find.

Orange Box - Steam version is 7 games for the price of one.
If you want an MMO, go for FFXI. You can get it with it's 4 expansion packs for £20. Then it's like £4 a month which is pretty cheap when you think about it. And you can be a Mithra <3.

Only if you already have the souped-up PC...

I'm taking the opportunity to go back and play all the classic CRPGs, like Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape: Torment. I bought Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics for $30 (that's cheap for Australia) - woo hoo! Now if only I could get any of them to work.

1. The Orange Box, best value evar!
2. Fallout 3 looks to have tons of replay value
3. COD4, great multiplayer rounds it out.

Try putting them in compatibility mode for Windows 95 and run them as Administrator. Also put your Display Settings on Medium(16-bit) and it should work. (This is for Fallout 1 and 2)

Sid Meier's Pirates is always a great time dump, I load it up from time to time still just to ravage the carribean or wherever the hell I am =P What else would be good...The Sims 2 for time dump as well. I don't really have many others springing to mind at the moment, 'cept maybe Saints Row since its a greatest hit making it like, 20 bucks.

Good choice. I bought it and all three expansions off ebay for £15

New games I've bought this year include Europa Universalis: Rome and Civ 4: Colonization (both major genre-fans-only propositions, though.)

I'm putting a lot of gameplay into my Sims 2 neighborhood lately as well. Expanded it out the ass during richer times (and modded it to death as well) so I've got plenty of content to work with.

I've just been downloading all the PC games from the past few years which my previous computer wasn't able to run.

First up were Fable & Medieval 2. Next is Company of Heroes.

    [LI]MMORPGs -- capable of reducing your gaming budget to a single $15/month payment; also typically provide new content on a regular basis for free; only require three fingers to play in case the local loan shark took the others;
    [LI]Strategy games -- Older titles like the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete set or Master of Orion 2 can be bought newly wrapped for $15 and offer incredible replayability and lots of fan-made maps;
    [LI]Games with an extensible architecture -- a title like Neverwinter Nights or FarCry offer a long single-player game and unlimited free fan-made content;
[LI]Browser-based gaming -- Free titles abound, from 20 minute flash games to sprawling strategy MMOs like Travian or Ikariam.

Eh... hard to say. I play games according to mood most of the time... I guess...
NHL 09 (I love hockey. Plain and simple.)
Halo 3 (I love FPS and an entertaining story/multiplayer.)
Tetris [possibly Hexic] (Gotta have something simple and quick.)
GTA IV (Because I really want to run people over sometimes. In hilarious ways.)

De Blob.

You can get it new from Play.com for 18 quid and it fantastic.

Everything about it will make you happier than a kitten chasing a leaky cow and forget your troubles faster than the most stupid of goldfish!

I cannot believe no-one's said Battlefield Heroes!
I would also say Far Cry, the original STALKER, Mafia, Halo 1, Rise of Nations, Battlefield 2, Guild Wars and Red Alert 2.

Mount and Blade $25 (sandbox single player)
I have been playing this thing for months now. Even though I can buy any weapon, have laid siege to every castle, and defeated every Lord, the game has yet to become repetative. It must be something about shoving a lance through a footman's face then turning arround and shooting a knight with your bow before he does the same to you.

Orange Box, and Stalker Clear Sky. I say Clear Sky over Shadow of Chernobykl because the prequel has something the other one didn't. The ability to ethnically cleanse the Zone of Bandits....So fucking worth the effort.
