I think if they did remake it with a 3d approach, they would have to do the same art style as Dissidia, which I think would work fine for it and still do justice to Amano's original design. The whole photo realistic approach indeed does not always work, it can take a lot of charm out of old games such as 6.

Probably. Maybe it'd be best to do it on the PSP though...except they'd have to have voice acting and KEfka's laugh wouldn't quite be the same.

I always thought Kefka's laugh was much like the jokers, they could hire Mark Hamel to do the laugh lol. Indeed when it comes to voice acting there are risks of shitty voicing, but if only more games allowed you to listen to jap voices with subs, a lot of people would be happy. I kind of hope it's not released on the DS as it's graphical approach would not do it justice, nor would any of the next gen consoles. Oh how I wish it would be remade for PSP at least, but fat chance of that :(...stupid DS

Mega Man! They messed with the series on Mega Man 7 and 8, and we all know how terrible those games were.

err you know Seven was good, right?

It's all in the opinion, my friend.

Tomb Raider. *GASP* OH WAIT

Seriously, the game that would be so ruined if it were remade today would be the old Grand Theft Auto games. I'm sorry, but it wouldn't work on today's consoles. And the charm of those games were its wacky sense of humor. Not too sure about seeing it remade today.

Despite it being only 7 years old, I would say Halo: Combat Evolved would be ruined by a remake.

The simple maps with functional geometry, the challenging gameplay, and the crazy physics made it unique in its prime and still today. New games are trying to make things more realistic, and IMO, it's not improving the gameplay much, if at all, with the exception of a few great shooters out there(i.e. CoD4). Recharging health and clunky vehicle physics, among other things, help drive home the point that some of the older, more "interesting" features games had were better.

Castlevania: symphony of the night.

Seconded. I loved this game when it came out, I loved it every time I beat it, I loved it when I downloaded it off Xbox Live. There's nothing about it that needs to be changed.

Yes. And in the same vein, Super Metroid. It was an interesting time, giving 2D platformers that element of exploration. And it should stay in that time.

Any classic 2D platformer that has a 3D remake.
Theres nothing wrong with 2D if the art is nice
i call it sonic syndrome....

No classic 2D platformer has a 3D remake, unless you count the art style.

A remake is taking the same game and RE MAKING it using our advanced space technology. It's not making a new game that is only thematically linked to the first one. Metroid Prime is not a remake of Metroid, it's a new installment in the Metroid series that happens to be taking a different direction. Same goes for the 3D Zelda, Mario and Sonic games.

Metroid Zero Mission is a remake. Super Mario 64 DS is a remake. Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland is a remake.

Metroid Prime is not a remake. Diablo 3 is not a remake. Sonic 3D is not a remake.

Duke Nukem. Thank god it's never going to happen.

If someone mentions a particular game I will kidney punch them.

What I'm surprised at, and impressed by, is that no ones mentioned Fall--OW!

Does it really count as a remake if its still a current game?

And you can't really fault game designers for making an MMO within an established world - half the problem within making one is making it interesting and immersive. Well, with these brands the depth and interesting settings are already done for you.

The new avatar looks pretty cool, by the way.

They did remake it, for Mobiles. I have it right now - its not that bad.

How do you remake an MMO anyway? All I can think of is what they did with Runescape...

The old "gold box" D&D RPG's frm the early 90's (yes I'm dating myself horribly I know)
If the didn't have the same gameplay style it'd rui it
- if it did have the same gameplay it would be utterly crap by today's standards

It would be the end of the world as we know it, or at least the end of the world for people ages 10-13
