For me that award must go to Majoras Mask, my single favourite Zelda game (with Ocarina and Wind Waker coming in joint second). Who can resist a story about a kid possessed by a mask who wants to crush the Earth with a Moon that has a face on it. And for anyone whos not played the game, yes it is as rediculous as that sounds. |

Perfect Dark wasn necessarily a sequel it was a prequel, but yeah I totally agree with you that it's crap compared to the original like Deus Ex Invisible War. Perfect Dark Zero was okay but lacked all the cool weapons and levels of the original, it certainly wasn't deserving of a 9.0 that Greg Kasavin {one of my favorite game critics} from GameSpot scored it. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 611 Joined: 27 Sep 2008 | For me it was god of war 2 just beacause it took everything i liked bout the original and then tried to do too much with it. It was like they crammed in QTEs everywhere and made the previously brilliant combat into a chore. The story was so blatantly obvious i could have written a synopsis within the first 20 minutes of the game. Then shadow of the colossus. Not really a sequel but dissapointing in terms of depth. |

At least the sequels had moments where you could go 'that's physically impossible! Dante is being a douche again! This boss is an annoying old man! The romatic slushy scenes are over, and now it's back to murdering a giant statue! This game is one of the best things I've ever played!' Interpret that as compliment or insult as you will. |

Call of Duty 2 was a real let down for me, after how fucking amazing COD and COD:UO was it was a real kick in the balls and was very dumbed down because it was also on the xbox360. They gave it the bloody health system from the Halo series and after the great MP on COD:UO they gave us a really boring MP that was clearly designed purely for the xbox360 version and just ported over because of the tiny maps (lower player count on 360). Then COD 3 was a even worse, a complete pile of shit. It was so bad it never got ported to PC. Things improved with COD4, but the MP was still pretty iffy. |

Paperboy Posts: 48 Joined: 4 Oct 2008 | Devil May Cry 2: I'm all for the series not being totally controller-wrecking hard, but c'mon, don't spoon feed us here. GTA San Andreas: Before the flaming starts, it's a good game. The problem I had with it is that Rockstar tried to cram way too much into the game. An entire state? Stat-building for just about every character feature through repetition? Just because you CAN add a bunch of new features doesn't mean you SHOULD. Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask: After the gaming nirvana that was Ocarina of Time, this is the next step? A damn time limit on a game that encourages exploration of a massive world? Stuck as kid Link the whole time? Again, not a bad game, but one hell of a disappointment. Legend of Zelda Windwaker: Repetitive and boring sailing. Nuff said. |

I could say alot to that, but instead I'll only point out the most obvious falacy. How does claiming a particular game has the best story of it's series indicate that I have low standards for stories in general? |

Nyeh, Mass Effect was over-hyped anyway. Kind of a dodgy game. |

Mass Effect is good but it's not one of BioWare's best games {at leasts it's better than Jade Empire}. I guess any BioWare game published by Microsoft is bound to be rushed and unpolished almost as a EA title. The storyline and the dialogue system were great though. |

I thought it was cancelled because Bungie North shut down. |

I still hold up Chaos Theory as the best original Xbox game out. PT wasn't that bad, it just wasn't as good as the other two (I refuse to acknowledge Double Agent as part of the series).
*Hits with rolled up newspaper* wrong, wrong, wrong (futurama reference!!!). ME was fuckin' epic, true, it might have been a bit watered down, but it was a shooter RPG, not a "pure" RPG. As such, it couldn't really rely on "Dice rolls" like other RPG's like KotOR, so to a RPG-purist, it'll seem uncomfortable, but to everyone else, it was great. |

Also I'm very disappointed in the Mega man "Starforce" spin-offs of battle-network, I will say that battle network got very old and crotchety after a few games, but starforce is just a terrible imitation with the camera put behind the shoulder and all the worlds personality and cute references sucked out, and replaced with whole continents based around a terrible pun. "The Continent of Wazzup", The Continent of "Loch Mess" Lame Utterly Lame. |

Your my hero, I echo your thoughts on Perfect Dark completely, they even managed to make Miss Dark look like a skank. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 79 Joined: 2 Sep 2008 | The biggest epic fail of a sequel ever is we (heart) katamari. It took an hour to beat. There was about five freaking levels total. The addicting gameplay was even killed sort of. This was not in any sense of the word good.... I really, Really wish I had my fifty bucks back from this utter dissapointment! |

No it was cancelled because it went through development hell with Take Two Games. Do your research before you post sheesh. Bungie North never even TRIED to WORK on A sequel for Oni before they shut downed... Still trying to look for the article that proves my statement. (Something of the lines of 45 games that you wouldn't of known about unless you worked on them.) |

Lol, how was that game any different to the first and third? |

Ah, but my complaints about ME have nothing to do with the combat system (indeed, shooter RPGs can be quite enjoyable. Deus Ex anyone?). The shotgun made me happy in my pants, so that was definitely not to blame. :D My complaints about ME have to do with basically everything else. Theoretically combat is part of gameplay, and I probably should have made a point of excluding the parts where you shoot things (emphasis on the word you here). However, as far as overall combat is concerned I do have issues with the terrible squad AI that seems to have a preoccupation with shooting at the walls more than the enemy (among other complaints on my mile long list). Looks like my first user review with The Escapist will have to be Mass Effect and then I can debate people about it there. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 409 Joined: 24 May 2008 | Splinter Cell: Double Agent. It was terrible. Half the levels were the same damn hideout, and all you really did was walk around with painful slowness and collect random files. Also, the stealth mechanics had been streamlined- which is to say, stripped-out and gutted. Instead of the increments on your sound and light meters to work with, you had three lights: red, yellow, green. Multiplayer was also stripped-out and gutted: all the cool gadgets and abilities from Chaos Theory were gone. The coop campaign, such an achievement in CT, was missing entirely. Halo 2 and 3 were disappointments, and saying so makes me unpopular at times. But I will say this: The Arbiter was the one thing Halo 2 got right and it was fucking great. The Arbiter was a great character who played a great foil to MC's emotionless badass. He was ashamed, conflicted, fighting for redemption; confused, betrayed, and zealous. The religious warrior angle was exactly what the series needed and I lamented his downsizing in Halo 3. I know I'm not making any friends, but I believe strongly in the Arbiter. Besides that, H2 was a major let down. H3 was good, but it was no Combat Evolved.
I liked Mass Effect, but gameplay-wise, it had the depth of a particularly shallow spoon. |

Agreed the Arbiter WAS awsome but masterchief fan boys/girls/hermaphrodites hated the idea of playing as a different charecter. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 454 Joined: 22 Aug 2008 | Twisted Metal 3 Thank you for reminding me. That was such a bad game comapred to TM2, looks is all it had going for it. TM4 somewhat revived the fanchise for me, the option for custom (very limited) was cool though. but the entire franchise still sports a massive scar TM3 left on me, I haven't played TMB, and TM: Head on just seems like a TM2 remake. another bad sequel for me was Parasite Eve 2 I loved the first game, and then THIS came along. it seemed to turn away frm the RPG style it once had and turned into a mute Resident Evil...but with a point system EW! |
Muckraker Posts: 246 Joined: 5 Mar 2008 | And let the flaming commence : GTA 4 I am more partial to the stories, gameplay, and complete overall experience from Vice City and San Andreas than I was with GTA 4. I liked the cartoonish graphics and feel, the way the vehicles handled. The driving in GTA 4, I feel like I'm playing Gran Turismo. The only saving grace that GTA 4 had for me was multiplayer, and it's really just not enough to save it for me. |

Oi! Why you quote meee? I agree with you on the point... I thought San Andreas was shitty compared to Vice City. The colours, Italians, 80's-ness and overall city design were miles better in VC. I hated the gangsta-ness of SA (as hip-hop irritates me in the first place), and the side bits like working out were super unnecessary. |

Much agreed, except that even multiplayer didn't have a saving grace for that game with me :P. What i would consider a good game, but parts of it just went too far....Tekken 5. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Tekken 5, I still play it with my friends every weekend. But the story mode has just gone too far with this 'Devil Gene' business. Also, canon-wise, I think Jin Kazama wins right? Why can't someone NOT from the Mishima bloodline win for a chance? Paul Pheonix came close in Tekken 3 by getting all the way and beating Ogre but unwittingly skipped out on True Ogre, making Jin the winner. |

I probably went a little too far by comparing Halo 2's storyline to Battlefield Earth's but Halo 2's storyline was almost as bad as Battlefield Earth.
