I think it was Starwars Battlefront, when I was 14ish. 1st Lan game was possibly Warlords (could you even play that over a lan? I can't remember).

1st post by the way, hello to you all. /waves

I remember playing Doom through LAN in '93, but if we're talking internet here, than that would be Red Alert back in '96.

If that was a predecessor to Warlords Battlecry, I cheer a mighty cheer

I loved Warlords Battlecry. Something about blending an RPG with an RTS, and before Warcraft 3 did it, was terrific. I still prefer WLB to WC3

I think it was Runescape. Than Warcraft 3 because Runescape does not even count as a game anymore.

Hello, and welcome to The Escapist. We're glad to have you. Always nice to get some new blood. Or, as my foreman at my construction job used to call me, young blood.

Diablo II. Well, I did play Doom 3 on a LAN once, but first on the world wide web was Diablo II.

Starcraft for me- I was young at the time, and it was insanely cool to play. The only problem was that the friend I was playing with was tons better than me, so I either relied on him constantly or was being blown up by him (constantly).

Unreal Tournament GOTY, back in the days when it was the pride of the UT series. Man did that game kick ass.

My first online game, I'm ashamed to say... would've been something along the lines of Runescape when it first came out... Ugh **throw up in mouth a little bit**... I was just so young! This was around the time that Runescape started, and all of my friends despised me for getting them into it and then ditching them for FPS not but several months later...Consequently, I can't play any MMORPGs these days, but have grown to focus on FPS, 3PS, and well... pretty much any genre of game excluding MMORPGs.

It was! I believe Battlecry was a sort of spin off to the original series which was a turn based thingermajig.

My first MMO (and first online game) is GunBound. It's a Korean knock-off of Worms.

688 Attack Sub over a 14.4k modem. The ability to play friends remotely was awesome, but so was the lag! (I still managed to execute a perfect stern attack, though... Comrade Yankee, even my crappy Russian sonar can detect your Los Angeles when it scrapes the bottom!)

Later, Warlords on the Eng. Lab LAN.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and Chromehounds, both for the 360. I had just got Xbox live and I loved the online play on both.

Runescape. The incredibly poor man's World of Warcraft. I was hooked for three days at the most, then it just got repititive, boring, and unfulfilling.

i dont remember if it was diablo or warcraft 2, but those were the first 2 i think. im not that old, i just started young. now excuse me as soon as i get over this nostalgia i need to find a dial up modem and a hammer.

to this day i love RPGs and RTSs, and spookyness, maybe a darkish atmosphere is good. and the first online games were far from the first games i played, those would be zelda super mario and civilization. platformers are also very close to me. i dont allow turn based crack near me anymore though, i learned my lesson.

Tribes 2. This isn't nostalgia talking, Tribes 2 is my favorite game ever. 64 player servers, fully mod-able maps and browsers, ridiculous client and server-based gametypes. If Sierra Entertainment still ran the servers I wouldn't have ever bought a console.
