I just got in through total luck, and am downloading it now. The total time it took me: two minutes. Hell yeah.

No, this thread isn't just to brag (I'll be showin' it off tomorrow, after making some kind of pimp mobile) but to call out other lucky bastards, so that we can join together, feel smug and maybe play the game together or something. So, Escapist, anyone else here care to join me in LBP goodness?

The beta codes are being given away by IGN right now, so act quick.

YOU BASTARD

I already entered the IGN beta give away, I sent them an e-mail for one of my level ideas but It was more of a first come first serve. There was also the X-Play give away but I didn't enter because I thought It was going to be like the MediaMolecule beta.

And guess what? I didn't get one because I never posted on their god damn blog! Just once and I would have gotten a freakin' beta! ONCE!

God, I'm pissed, but i'll see if i can get some PS2 games to keep me occupied.

I had to have posted on Wednesday October 3rd I think to be able to get the Code.

*sigh* god damnit, I was screaming at my computer monitor when I read that!

Are you in Europe? I'm at IGN right now and it says EU only.

I guess I can just make a EU account but still, no loophole is available for me right now.

I'm not that crazy about the Beta since it ends on Saturday though...

Brainstorming ideas here though.

Yeah my top reason for wanting to get in the beta is to get past the learning curve so I can dive right in at release. I'm sure there's a lot of stuff to wade through in LBP.

Oh, and you may want to try to optimize your PS3's internet receiver if you're on wi-fi. Put it an an open area and get as close to the router as possible.

No, US here. The IGN e-mails closed a while ago, and the MediaMolecule give away said you had to post on or before Wednsday.

Still pisses me off to no end.

Can someone please explain to me what little big planet is and why it's such a big deal?

It's a game where you build a little obstacle course for your little sackboy to go through, I don't really get why people are so excited about it, but somebody must.

Well if we're pulling out Family guy references, then:

Have you heard?
I thought everyone had heard, that the bird bird bird, the bird is the word, the b-b-b-bird bird, the bird is the word

I know the "You Bastard" part is Family Guy, but I don't remember the "Naw, I'm just kidding, could you imagine though?" part.

But we're getting off topic here.

And maybe read an IGN preview or something. People aren't just randomly throwing praise at the game, it's pretty damn impressive if you actually sit down and play it.

I love the concept, but I think the hype machine might be a little high.
It's like TFU. The Force unleashed was a GOOD game. Note that, good, not average.
But you hype it until it's supposed to be God's gift to Star Wars fans, and when it arrives people are disappointing. The reviews are luke warm, and lots of used copies float into the stores over the next week.

LBP seems like a similar deal. Here's a GOOD game, that we should all be thankful for, but because the PS3 corporate thinks it needs a big system selling game they crank up the hype levels to 11. Now I think some people are going to be disappointed, even though the game is great in someways and adequate in all others.

^Judging by reactions to the beta, I'd say the hype's perfectly warranted; I honestly haven't seen a negative reaction about it. It could be the next MGS4, actually living up and surpassing the hype people thought would screw it up.

But I guess I'll find out tomorrow, when this damn thing finishes downloading...

I fail to see how being able to build your own levels is interesting for any but the sect of gamers that enjoys modding and building anyway.

The whole idea is that it's fun to do, and easier to access other people's good ones than in classic PC games. Anyway, I'm not gonna try and convince you to like this game, previews and stuff should have done that already. If they haven't, maybe you're one of the few who it just isn't right for?

85% done.

I'm not saying it's bad, looking at the footage i'd say it looks cute, quirky, and innovative- everything worth being interested in.

I just don't see why people have raging steel hardons of fanboy joy for it.

It's the amount you can do, combined with how easy it is to do.

Most if not all the levels in the beta only use the tools available to you once you complete the first level/area/whateveritis. If those levels only use a fraction of the tools you get, who knows what you'll be able to do in the full game?

Even if i've never played it yet and I'm "pissing my pants" so to speak for it, I'm still going to wait until I play it to make a final verdict. I would suggest you do the same, but if you don't want to play it that's fine.

And Mr. Badass, if you could would you write a sortof review for the Beta? That would be nice to inform people as to what is going on.

Sure, I guess I could do something like that.

Wow, I'm damn nice. Me doing this has nothing to do with putting off essays and not having MSN, just for the record. ;)

Well if it interferes with your school work then you can put it off, don't want you failing class now do we young man?

If I had any faith that if I wasn't doing I'd be doing anything but going down to the pub, texting and maybe being involved in immoral acitivities then you'd have reason to worry. But it's coo' man, it's coo'.

Edit: People, holy crap. The intro is awesome. And I normally skip these things and then never watch 'em again, so this game is pulling some voodoo shit to make me interested.

This is the "Common outsiders view in" I've been seeing everywhere. Yeah you can build obstacle courses and such but the sheer amount of stuff you can use to create levels is incredible. Some have made Space invaders levels where you have to bounce bombs back towards them with a trampoline, some had made Shadow of the Colossus levels that were actually as deep and intricate as the games, and not just "jump jump, slap brain thingy" - etc.

It's like the console G-Mod, only better. Well ok maybe not as awesome as G-Mod, but it's more polished ;)

Anyway, LBP has the potential to be like, 100 games in one. It has the potential to "go on forever" because of it's community.

Actually I'm GLAD LBP has so much hype for it, because it's such a community driven game that if it doesn't get popular quickly enough it'll suck.

It is very simple why everyone is excited. Here is a game that you can build almost any scenarios, make you own rules, make you own machines, you own enemies taking every thing that they give you a let you creative juices flow. I have seen people use the beta to make amazing levels and things. Heck a person made a working calculator using the gears and wires. Just imagine if you could make that you could make giant robots or working clocks or a car that works like a real one. If we could do that now just imagine what we could do with future downloads. If you have the patience and imagination you can see the potential this game has. But some people can't think past grabbing a gun and running through linear levels with a flimsy story or playing a game that is so easy that the game actually puts arrows to point out what you have do next ("cough" ....Zelda. This game is not for them.

Don't tell me you are getting raging hard-ons for Gears of War 2 right? Or is it Far Cry 2? Saints Row 2? Typical.

I've got the beta. The level editor in the beta has limitations but it's still very flexible and the full game will have a lot more available options for level creating. It's really buggy but it is a beta so that isn't too much of a big deal.

Now I'm going to use this post to promote my level!

It's called "silhouette". There is no nature light in the level. Things like stars and electrical metal is used as light at creates a silhouette of whatever gets lit up. If you have the LBP beta, go and play it now! It's awesome!
