The second one is more like what has been a traditional style in Japanese anime, manga and games. The first one looks like some member of NOW (that feminazi group National Organization for Women in the U.S.) got a hold of the second one and changed it to make it more "politically correct".

I like the mash-up better. Kudos to the one who Photoshopped that. I'd have to disagree with the comparison to Major Kusanagi,though. Yes, she's pretty well-endowed, but her character is so fleshed-out (no pun intended) and the fact that you know that she can break you in ways you can't possibly imagine prevents her from being a sex symbol. Even if in the anime and movie (the first one) she did show a lot of skin.

Since the game is basically a platformer using a first-person perspective, you're always gonna have to (quite often) look down to see the edge of a platform you're standing on. If the heroine had D-cup knockers, not only would it seem inappropriate (a woman like that will have back aches the minute she tries to do flips, though flips are not parkour), the game would possibly be broken, cuz her breasts will prevent you from seeing your feet.

At least that's what I think.

I mean christ, why not just depict her like the concept artist pictured her in his/her head? That way it all fits best. I agree you can't turn homo-hetero or vice versa, but people do develop different fetishes. Men who like women and men who like girls still all like females (please don't interpret that as me defending paedo's, I'm just saying they're not necessarily gay). Many people start off normal enough, but start getting into stuff like BDSM, leather, BBWs etc as their life progresses, and as they experience different things. People haven't ever had as much information at their fingertips as they have today, and I think that constant exposure to certain images that many people could not possibly have ever seen before in their lifetime could potentially warp someone's mindset. Yes if you just look at this image, the second one is much sexier. And if I were to choose either picture to jerk of to, it would be the second one.

However this is a character part of a game and game world. A game that, as far as I know, is not about sex, but about a runner in a utopian world gone wrong. The first character is much more conducive to that story than the second one. I wouldn't even say it's more believable, but it definitely is much more fitting. I've met quite a few of athletic women in my life, some of whom were capable of some of the things you can do in mirror's edge. None of them had very big breasts. I don't think it's a coincidence, very big breasts tend to disqualify you from making very difficult jumps comfortably. And being very athletic tends to reduce the size of your breasts, as one of my female fellow freerunners lamented.

As for the debate on Lolicon, the big problem is the kiddieporn element is hard to nail down because in alot of anime there'll be these girls who look like they're 12, but their characters are noted as being 18- thus circumventing law. Personally, I like anime, but am not turned on or fond of Loli at all (I do kinda like the Gothic Lolita CLOTHS from the set, so long as they're on a real woman). At it's root Japans 'strangeness' is related to their strict social parameters- everything about Japanese culture is very detail and decorum oriented. As a result of this conditioning, anything differentiating from the social norm is discouraged and makes people uncomfortable- and in subsuptable types, this leads to an obsession with the forbidden, and since the cultural Japanese response to these social malnorms is to IGNORE the issue so as not to 'encourage' them, widely divergent social sets have emerged amongst the rebellious youth. Most are similar to and about as honestly 'harmful' as Goths or Emo's here- just an annoyance, not really an issue.
