Its got a nice rounded out package and stood out as a game I needed to grab. Sure, once I beat it I never touched it again, but then again, I never touched the Wii after I finished that game either. Says alot about that game, to me at least. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1557 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | The game was over-the-top, well-written, hilarious and occasionally very difficult. It shall forever have a place of honor upon my shelf. That said, I haven't touched it since I beat it the first two times. |

Also it has a lot of similar elements to some of my own work, so I have a soft spot for it. My stuff is a lot less Sex focused though. |

Paperboy Posts: 31 Joined: 16 Oct 2008 | NMH was a great game if you were prepared to look past its flaws, those being some of the mini games and the atrociously designed hub. The combat never got old and was always hilarious, I think I played that entire game standing up. |

Muckraker Posts: 252 Joined: 20 Aug 2008 | NMH was actually a game of surprising polish. The little touches, like the cell phone calls before each boss fight, and the old school arcade styling were really impressive. The combat was mashy, but not entirely without skill requirements. It took timing and quick thinking to do some of the timed fights, and a few of the boss fights even took a certain level of strategy. But it's the characters that stand out for me. Our Otaku hero wasn't particularly well-developed, but he was loud, obnoxious and liked swords, wrestling and breasts. Tell me you don't know someone like that. Oh and I've only seen one ending, but I was under the impression there were two. So there's some replay value. That Fast-Forward gimmick was hilarious. |

Uh... what? I said the aesthetics were good; "polish" usually refers to a consistent standard of quality which runs throughout the whole game. Which NMH didn't have. |

Sure it did. It's retro punk style, its voice acting, its cinematics, its' music, animation. All top quality. Polish refers specifically, at least in my mind, to presentation. I think NMH presented itself very well. If there were parts that were poorly designed or un-fun, well I won't dispute that some of the early mini-games were torture. But that has nothing to do with polish. |

Pretty much covers it. |

Intelliegently written? Thought provoking? Witty? Satirical? What were you smoking? I'm gonna go on the record as saying I think Desperate Struggle is a bad idea - the sequel will mean the flash and fresh flavour of the game are gone, leaving it with.....yeah, you get my point. People like Suda 51 shouldn't be allowed to make sequels. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1649 Joined: 29 Nov 2007 | *edit* Aaaaahhhh, I'm being a douche bag. I just like the game, I get why it pisses people off. |
Muckraker Posts: 236 Joined: 10 Oct 2008 | I liked the graphics design in the game. It was very unique... but if I want those I can play Killer 7 as well but I think NMH is better in those terms (they're brighter here and I think it works more). Fighting was fun but there was a little too much. I respect it a little for being one the only adult games on the wii (that and Obscure II). Though yeah I agree it doesn't have a enough worth for a second play through. And I agree with the GTA fixation. |
Beat Writer Posts: 176 Joined: 22 May 2008 | No More Heroes is one of the best games I've ever played, it had some faults, but it was still awesome and I can't wait for the sequel, which i hear is coming in 2010. |
Paperboy Posts: 40 Joined: 17 Sep 2008 | For all its flaws it manages to be pretty consistently entertaining, which is something that a lot of games miss these days. I think much of the charm came in that it didn't take itself too seriously; it was tongue-in-cheek and thoroughly silly with no great delusions of grandeur. A lot of games try to be art and fall flat on their face, weighted down by several tons of melodrama, poor script and abysmal voice acting. NHM didn't try to be anything it wasn't and therein was a certain simplistic beauty, wrapped in quirky visuals and a wonderfully unique style. For some reason, that just did it for me and kept me playing. |
Paperboy Posts: 37 Joined: 19 Oct 2008 | NMH was a really entertaining game. Ridiculous story and characters, with some of the most amazing kills to watch. But the overworld really was terrible, and the mini-games were monotonous. Maybe not worth buying, but easily a rent. Let's hope the second game is even better! |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1187 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | Suda51's games wouldn't be half as good if they were focus-tested in advance. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3246 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | The game is awful. It's a very shitty game, but god damnit I've never played anything like it, it's so awesome. I think when I got to the Dr. Peace battle it won me over. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 72 Joined: 29 Nov 2008 | you will never play anything like it, wether you like it or not is a mixed bag. But if you like it it is awasome. I would rent it first, unless you want to spend $20 on it I would try some of his older games first like KILLER SEVEN |

So I got No More Heroes the other day, and though I liked some elements of it - the ranked battles, combat, and aesthetics of the game are strong - alot of it was pretty bad, including the nondescript overworld and tiresome mini-games. Moreover, the game is really, really short: it can be completed easily in ten hours, and doesn't neccessarily warrant a second play-through. Does anyone share my thoughts? Or does everyone just think NMH is the pwnz?
In any case, hopefully NMH: Desperate Struggle is a better-rounded product. Suda41 should dash his GTA fixation, too.
