I don't know about you guys but when I see anyone with a "User was put on probation for: ..." or "User was suspended for: ..." under their post I get curious as to what was said and follow the link.

I have come up with this idea that anyone who gets suspended should post a message here (not the one that got them suspended for obvious reasons) but a message leading to their message so that everyone can enjoy in peoples idiocy.

you can't post when suspended...you can when on probation, though.

Uh, If they're suspended every single one of their posts is faded and has a link to the offending article for the duration of the probation or the suspension. There's no point to this.

On top of that, if they are suspended, how are they supposed to post here?

I have always wonderd this, but what is the diffrence between being suspended and being put on probation?

Not all probations and suspensions are because of idiocy. In my case (once I was put on probation) I just didn't realize until it was too late that certain viewpoints were not allowed to be expressed on The Escapist for corporate reasons. Alas, all the warnings came too late.

Probation is a warning, often accompanied with a PM. Suspension is a temporary ban.

My opinion: if you ever find yourself wondering whether or not you should post something, the answer is almost always no. The mods don't like posts like just 'inb4lock' or 'Cool.' I think they prefer something more substantial.

Ok, well post probation posts here and hyperlinks to suspended posts when you're off suspension ... It will also help act as a guide so people know what gets you suspended :-p

not always because of stupidity, I was put on probation for a day for having very little text and a motivational poster saying "when all else fail, you can always have ninja attack" apparently pics aren't a substitute for text

I haven't been suspended or put on probation yet, but lord knows I'm trying folks. I'm a bit miffed that I haven't offended someone yet.

3000+ posts clean biatches!!! WHOOOOOO! Not even a 1 day probation!!!

And I do like to check them, some are funny, some rather strange, others are just absolutely baffling. I like the ones where the mod has added a witty message, Nilcypher is rather good at those, good for a laugh on a slow day.

There's already something that does that. They're called the FORUM POSTING GUIDELINES.

I'm curious now, what viewpoints aren't allowed? I don't want to be probationated!

I do enjoy checking why people have been put on probation or suspended, if only to satisfy my curiosity over what they've said. It's also good as a learning experience, in order to learn what not to do on this forum, and when you treat them like that it's actually rather valuable knowledge. It seems to have served me well so far, lets hope I can keep it up. (I certainly hope I do... it'd be a bit embarassing to be suspended...)

Actually, thats the main reason I want to avoid being even probationed, because I wouldn't want to embarrass myself like that in front of people whom I consider friends on here.

Yes but it will at least give examples ... Plus we get to laugh at others :-p ^^

It's just a suggestion but I think it'd be fun :-)

This is a perfect example of when the guidelines aren't enough ... Others experience can benefit us all!

So, you'e asking people to volunteer to be laughed at?

Good luck with that.

Most of the probation/suspension posts I've seen involved posts that were one word or had nothing to do with the subject at hand. And don't even get me started on the posts that get people banned...

Not a problem now. The "you are not allowed to have this opinion, no matter how well constructed your argument" statement was made very, very clear, it was just that it was made very clear after my probation. I'm still a little confused about it myself.

I'm not linking to it until somebody else links to one of their posts. Nobody's done it yet, and there's no way I'm getting a ban or probation because I linked to a ban or probation when I wasn't supposed to.

I ALWAYS check those.

Sometimes I'm amazed at what little it takes, and sometimes it's a keen insight into the Escapist beefs and dramas.

I was banned for three days for making a topic about "Burglar enters your home" scenarios. It got to three pages before it was locked because "it didn't inspire conversation".

I was put on Suspension for asking what exactly the warcry network was in the warcry forums. Not a very smart move since most of the blokes there aren't exactly fond of us escapists....

Hey, I was in a play earlier as a drunk, and I was certainly willing for people to laugh at me. They didn't, but still... Anyway, OT, this isn't really a good idea, I don't think. It's fine to lok at the comments made that lead to moderator action, since they're left as a warning anyway. But a thread devoted to it isn't going to end well, methinks...

Not in my experience. In my experience it's 1/20th of the time.

I've outright flamed in a couple of posts but I haven't been warned.
What the hell does it take to be on probation? xD

Yeah, you resorted to an image instead of a statement. That also seems to tick off the Escapist Mods.

Pro-tip: When being contrary in a thread, don't use IMAGES. Escapist mods apparently don't want this place to become LOLcat/4Chan central.

Would the thread be any more locked if I objected to it rationally? The image pretty much conveys my thoughts on that matter as well.

That is true although I quoted somebody and just posted a image and never got probed.

...I can see why the last part of your post could annoy people, but I've seen quite a lot worse on The Escapist that hasn't gotten so much as a complaint. On the other hand, I've seen somebody banned on the basis of having bad grammar, so I really don't know.
