Sometimes you'll see a probation that you don't agree with or doesn't make sense, often that means that there is something else is going on behind the scenes. A nasty PM, a history of bad behavior, or something else. Whatever it is, a probation isn't the end of the world, it's a moderator saying "Hey, we don't want this kind of stuff on the forums. Please don't do it again." A suspension on the other hand is a tool that lets users know when their behavior won't be tolerated, or they need a break from the forums to get their heads on straight.
This is true about IBTL, first!!11!eleven, this, and other non-comments. This isn't a yahoo chat, if everyone posted like that we'd have very little signal and lots of noise. No one wants to visit a forum full of catchphrases and one-liners.
Same as above, pictures without context or additional content are just spam to most people. Making it worse pictures take up a lot more real estate than a "this" post. Spammy text is a lot easier to ignore than pages of lolcats and motivational posters. Pictures are certainly welcome if they pertain to the conversation, or add something to your point. They're not welcome when you use them to attract attention to yourself without contributing anything to the discussion.
Your personal opinion came at a sensitive time where it was viewed to be an attack on users who came to this site to vote for their favorite game company. We were up to our eyeballs in nastiness and your comment seemed elitist and aggressive. Perhaps it was the comparison you did that pushed the moderator towards a warning, which nicely segues into my final statement. You may always appeal your suspensions and probations. We are pretty damned reasonable, if you feel that we were too strict or don't see the whole picture simply catch up with one of us (I am nearly always on IRC), and have a polite chat about the action. Don't be intimidated; moderators do not live in ivory towers looking down on masses of peons. We have horrible grammar and laugh at funny pictures just like everyone else. |

Also, not being a jerk helps, try to be receptive of other's opinions. ANY mention of sexual anything is a terrible idea. You know, simple little things. Uh, other than that, ALWAYS have text in your posts(significant stuff too, not just "lol", as that is little more than spam), avoid image abuse(and use spoilers when including them save for reviews), don't abuse Capslock/BB code (THIS IS VERY ANNOYING AND HARSH ON THE EYES), when including links to other websites have a good reason for doing so (lest you be called a spambot), and follow general forum ettiquette as listed in the Forum Guidelines. Edit: Wilson up above has most of what I've said already, so yeah. |

I totally understand that as well. When space is an issue. Also, hotlinkers totally piss me off on other forums I moderate, so I tend to put them on probation for that reason. So when there's a ton of PICTURES, it takes me all friggin' night to scan each one for hotlinking. Which then makes me more cranky. If the entire thread is pictures, I usually don't care, as long as the pictures aren't HOTLINKED or INAPPRORPIATE. But usually one thread full of pictures expands into two, and then three, and then a dozen. I try not to give what I call a precedent for abuse. I can understand why you'd stop picture replies in a heartbeat. That's 4Chan behavior, and doesn't necessarily encourage DISCUSSION. |

c'mon join the probation train...i got suspended for saying meh in a thread...it did enter as just meh even though i actually did type a whole paragraph but my laptop decided it would put my mouse scroller into auto-pilot and i hit enter...then i facepalmed and edited it...but the mod got it before me which was like 0.05 seconds |

It'd be a lot cooler if you were funny, or did something interesting. Instead you just sound like kind of a douche and in need of some attention in most of those posts. Of course, if you were funny you'd still sound like you needed attention, but at least it wouldn't be so douche-ridden. |

Oh right no worries ^^ I suppose it depends on the severity of the bad gramma for example if someone wrote "j00 iz 4 h4xx0r" or something then it lowers the tone of the forum. I think that is probably the reason for grammar being a reason for getting put on probation. As for people posting worse things I suppose it's a matter of who it offends and the context in which it is written.
It's not for no reason, I know I for one find myself following the link when people get put on probation or banned out of curiousity and I don't doubt there are others so I decided to start a thread where people can share their experiences and bans under one place. If the mods didn't want us to read posts that got people put on probation then why would the put a link to the post on all of that persons posts? |

You had nothing to do with anything, yet I'm not going to tell you "please don't post messages like this". Why won't I do that? Because I'm not one to tell you what to do. I was joking that because you posted about having 3000 posts without so much as a warning, if I were I mod, I would give you a Probation as a joke to make your post inaccurate, of course taking it away in a few minutes. This expression alludes to the main character of a nursery tale, The History of Goody Two-Shoes (1765), who was so pleased to actually own two shoes that she kept saying "Two shoes!" She was written as a model character of righteous yet humble living. The goody in the story is short for goodwife, an archaic term than means roughly what "Mrs." means today. |

The whole point is that I don't want this thread to become one big argument and your post seemed pointless and purile and I honestly didn't see the point in it so I asked you not to argue in this thread because it detracts from the atmosphere. I am not censoring you I just think it'd be a nicer place to post if people didn't call others a "douche" or anything else derogatory.
So why set out to ruffle someones feathers and get them banned? I was trying to "defend" him in an attempt to stop a reaction. Basically as I said before I don't want this getting into a slagging match, I meant this thread as a bit of fun not a place for people to be spiteful to others. |

Huh? Get them banned? I didn't make him call me what he did. I didn't report him, either. Just how did I "get him banned"? You budded up and took his side because I basically told him his probations are not cute, despite the fact that he was trying to make it seem that way. You'll have to excuse me when I tell you that I don't care if you like my opinion or not. I find it bizarre that you took his side and you're still even going at it, but it's really neither here nor there to me. Actually, just PM me if you really feel like talking about it. Us going back and forth is just spam. |
